Simple 
Past: 
The simple past is used to describe actions or events in the past 
Affirmative: 
Subject + Verb in past + complement sentence 
Example: She studied last night 
Negative: 
Subject + Auxiliary Verb (Did) + Not + Infinitive Verb + complement 
sentence 
Example: She did not study last night 
Interrogative: 
Auxiliary Verb (Did) + Subject + Infinitive Verb + 
complement setence + ? 
Example: Did She study last night? 
Short Answers: 
Affirmative: Negative: 
Yes, She did Not, She did not
Verbs in Past 
Regular Verbs: 
In the past with regular 
verbs just add ‘ed’ at the 
end of the verb. 
Example: 
Present Past 
Dance Danced 
Move Moved 
Irregular Verbs: 
In the past with 
irregular verbs, the verb 
changes its form. 
Example: 
Present Past 
Drink Drank 
Sing Sang
