2. Past perfect
The past perfect is used when two actions began and ended in the past.
Its base is formed by grammatical ‘’had’’ auxiliary verb plus a past participle. This time one uses
two actions used in past perfect (with the action that occurs first) and the other in the past
simple (which came after)
Affirmative: Suj + Had + Verb (Past Participle) + Complement
Example: I had eaten something
Negative: Suj + Had + Not + + Verb (Past Participle) + Complement
Example: she had not read something
Interrogative: Had + Suj + Verb (Past Participle) + Complement
Example: Had he gone on a trip?
