BE GOING TO+ BASE VERB
• The modal
expression be going
to is used with the base
form of the verb.
• The be verb is
conjugated according to
the subject (am, are, is).
INFORMAL CONTRACTIONS:
• These informal contractions are not "correct"
English. Do not use them in a written exam, for
example, except in appropriate situations.

Remind them that while the
reduced form is very
common in speaking, it’s
not often used in writing
(except in casual writing

a friend). Most students
think it’s fun to practice
reduced forms, so
encourage them to
use gonna in speech.
