Symbiosis is a close interaction between two different living things called symbionts. There are three types of symbiosis: mutualism, which benefits both participants; commensalism, which benefits one and neither harms nor benefits the other; and parasitism, which benefits one participant at the expense of the other. Mutualism is an example of symbiosis that provides benefits to both living things involved in the interaction.
