applications
1. Fluid displacement
2. Well killing (by fluid circulation)
3. Kicking off wells (gas lift)
4. Chemical injection.
• Additional units can be employed elsewhere for:
5. Selective testing, treating or producing multiple
zones.
6. Commingled production.
7. Pressure equalization.

Activation
Mechanism
Side Sliding Door (SSD)
The sleeve within an SSD may be shifted by:
1. Wireline methods
2. Coiled tubing methods
3. Pressure application to the tubing after
dropping or running a shifting dart
4. Pressure application to the annulus, acting on
the differential piston area of the SSD sleeve
Eng. El Sayed Amer
07
Wireline Shifting Tool
Side Sliding Door (SSD)
1. Shifting Tool is used to move SSD inner sleeve to
its open or closed position
2. There are those which open by upward movement
of the inner sleeve and others which open by
moving the inner sleeve downward.
• Jar up to open sleeves
• Jar down to open sleeves
Eng. El Sayed Amer

SSD Landing nipples
Side Sliding Door (SSD)
1. Most sliding sleeves incorporate a
landing nipple profile (usually X or
R) in the top sub into which a lock
mandrel and plug can be placed by
means of wireline.
Eng. El Sayed Amer
07
SSD Trouble shooting
Side Sliding Door (SSD)
1. Operational access problems due to well deviation where
jarring may be difficult
2. Medium to long term seal failure
– Operational failure (stuck valves and sleeves)
3. CO2 or H2 S is produced, as seal damage may occur.
4. If the temperature is greater than 225°F, whereby seal damage
may occur.
