her being pushed to the back, adding in also shoe squeaking
noises detailing that people are really trying hard to barge in
and be the first on there to get a seat which affirms the belief
that she has at the time which is that the world is hostile and
selfish
She puts her headphones on, the music that plays is a
diegetic which could suggest that we are still in reality. The
music then switches from diegetic to apart of the soundtrack
which suggests we are now in her mind and looking through#
3. her eyes.
They then show a shot of a man shooting a woman for her
seat on the bus, this shows us what she thinks of the city
aand its people in this moment, she feels that they would kill
someone just to take their seat as they shoved her out the
way just to get on the bus and this is re-enforced by the fact
no one around her reacts as its in her mind.
We then return to diegetic audio as her and a man are
brought closer together by the busses movements, they then
lock eyes and hold hands, the music then switches back to
being apart of the soundtrack itself. The music is quite happy
4. which means that she is happy about that connection she’s
made as the audio/music changing from diegetic to apart of
the soundtrack is how we differentiate her mind from real
life.
Then as the bus clears some of the passengers come out to
dance, this suggests that her view of the city has now
changed from something that was once negative and hostile
to something that is now positive.
TW*T
TW*T is a comedy short film by Isaac H.P. about a man who
breaks up with his girlfriend after a night out, he then
becomes sad, lonely and depressed then wins her heart back.
5. The short film starts with a tilting shot of a roast chicken in
the oven, this is foreshadowing of what’s to come he makes a
roast chicken for his girlfriend at the end, the tilting short
disorientates the audience a little bit almost showing that this
is foreshadowing the future.
In the next scene he is playing scrabble with his girlfriend and
her friends, the shots switch between a 2 shot of him and his
girlfriend and a dirty 1 shot of another man, this man
accidently touches his girlfriend and he gets angry which
shows isaac as an abusive controlling boyfriend at this point
6. in the short film, they then him and the man both go outside
to have a cigarette and isaac basically indirectly says to the
man to stay away from his girlfriend after making some dirty
jokes. The film uses a lot of 1 and 2 shots almost all of which
containing the main character isaac which establishes him as
almost the main character in his own mind. This is proven as
everytime theres more than 2 people in the shot is when he
is outside of what is going on.
Next they are in the club and isaac is away from his girlfriend
and the man and they are talking to each other, here the man
reveals that he is actually gay and therefore not attracted to
her but of course isaac doesn’t know that, then when isaac
sees them talking he splits them up angrily and threatens
him, this causes his girlfriend to go on a break with isaac
leaving him behind, when he is left behind it shows the rest
of the group together in one big group shot and isaac alone in
a one shot showing in a cinematic sense that he is outside of
there lives now.
7. The short film then cuts to isaac alone in a field where the
man taunts him, the film switched between wide shots of
him and the man standing off and one shots of isaac looking
at him, the man is teasing isaac about how hes stolen his
girlfriend, its very clear that we are in isaacs mind. The man
turns big and grabs isaac while taunting him lifting him up far
from the ground then dropping him hurting isaac. The music
playing is very emotionally sad yet hypnotic which helps us be
put into the mind of isaac.
8. Next isaac sings a rendition of creep by radiohead while
watching his girlfriend live her life from afar, the song choice
is very important as the song is about someone who is a
creep and isaac is a creep in this scenario by watching his
girlfriend live her life and dancing with the man. The song is
also about wanting to be noticed by someone you love and
isaac is sad that she wont notice him and has almost
forgotten about him during their break
Isaac then talks with his mate rufus then decides he’s going
to sing a song for her to get her back, the song is called I miss
your ass and it manages to win her over. The shots used in
this scene are very simply close and medium shots on Isaac
but when it cuts to her in her bedroom shouting down at
him, they use wider shots to show the whole window. Isaac
offers to cook her, and her friends roast dinner to make up for
his actions.
9. The next scene he cooks her and her mates the roast chicken
like from the start of the film, he starts off before serving it by
apologising to everyone at the table, the man then asked for
some (chicken) breast then everyone starts laughing at him,
the film has done a good job at showing this from isaacs point
of view as they do close ups of everyones face while slightly
distorting the camera, isaac then stabs his girlfriend. He then
wakes up back in reality with the chicken stabbed up only to
find out that the man was gay the whole time and he had
nothing to worry about.
Make Me A Sandwich
Make me a sandwich is a horror short film about a woman
who is sick of making her husband sandwiches so she tries to
kill him.
10. The film starts with a close up shot of the husband shouting
for his wife for sandwich, this already tells us that this isn’t a
healthy relationship between the 2 as he shouts it angrily like
hes entitled to it. w
We are then given a medium shot of the wife handing him
the sandwich then walking away, she walks away scared as if
shes afraid of him affirming that this relationship is abusive
11. She leaves to go nit only for him to shout for another
sandwich, this time she fills it with dish soap to try and
poison him but when he has the sandwich he is unphased.
The same thing happens almost like a cinematic repetition,
he asks for another sandwich while she is nitting, she decided
to try and poison him however she uses cat poop instead this
time. The filmmaker uses a medium shot to establish the cat
litter tray in the room and uses close up shots of the
sandwich being made to show her putting it in.
12. Sadly the cat poop didn’t work and the scenario repeats itself
however this time she breaks the mayo jar she was using to
make the sandwiches, this gives her the idea to put the
broken glass in the sandwich. We get shown a low shot of her
scraping up the glass to put in the sandwich which can show
the audience the depth of the room shes in.
The husband eats the sandwich bleeding from the mouth,
this will be the point the audience now fully knows
something is wrong here and start feeling uneasy which is
helped by the creepy music playing and the wifes horrifying
13. reaction.
She then goes back to nitting and comes back to a dead
skeleton of her husband surrounded by rotted sandwiches
and maggots, the audience then finally realises the husband
has been dead the whole time, she asks him if he wants
another sandwich and then goes to make one while this
stressful scary music plays.
14. during the credits we can see her making another sandwich
Evaluated
Overall, all these short films have taught me different things
about short films and making them. Connect has shown me
things such as you don’t have to use a lot of dialogue in the
films and you can show emotion and thought without a lot of
words, another thing I learned from connect.
