Short Film –
Urgent
The film title appears on the film opening sequence which gives
an indication about the film genre and the plot because you can
see a man running so this gives an idea to the audience about
the plot and the location which is set in a school to viewers.
Purpose Of The
Short Film &
Narrative
• The Short Film Urgent is a 1 minute long
short film which showcases the talent of
a film maker often short films are made
by upcoming film directors or students in
film school.
• The purpose of this short film for the
audience is to entertain because it has a
comedy element.
• The narrative includes no dialogues and
is shown to the audience entirely by
images and sound effects.The narrative
also uses jump cuts to allow the audience
to see thru time given the short nature of
the film
CINEMATOGRAPHY
• The short film uses a range of different camera shots
such as medium close ups for example the one shown
on the opposite side shows the emotions and the his
costume connotates that he is a student in school
• Another camera shot used by the director to show
the essance of speed which directly links to the title
of urgent and the actual plot that the student needs
to use the bathroom very quickly
• The next shot which is used is a medium long shot
with 2 other characters as a medium shot so the
girls are the fore ground and the main character is in
the background and this describes that the people
are watching this man on his urgent journey to the
bathroom and this creates more comedy for the
audience

SCENE
• The lighting used in this short film is a mix of highkey
and lowkey lighting mainly fit into a exterior or interior
shot.
• Interior is when highkey lighting is used when the
characters in school to show that it’s the day time and
to show the location clearly.
• The extierior shot is slightly darker to show that the
time has passed thru the day and to show that how
long the character has been urging for the bathroom
for this creates more comedy and drama for the
audience .
• The films mise-en-scene is constructed to show a
school like enviroment which gives furthur meaning for
the audience about where the action takes place.
EDITI
NG
• The director and the editing team use jumpcuts to allow the narratives to
progress quickly in a short amount of time and to also match the plot of the
film and the title.
• Fast-paced edting has been used by the director to match the soundtrack
used and to keep audience active not passive.

• The sound used by the director is all non-digetic and
the use of sound effects is used to give further meaning
to the audience about the pace and speed in the
narrative “ wush “ sounds are used to describe the
speed and also to match the plot and the title of this
short film. Since its called “ Urgent “ the ”wush” sound
matches with it since it describes the speed.
• Sounds of clock ticking and dripping water is used to
link to the narrative and plot about a boy needing the
bathroom at a fast amount of time.
