social groups portrayed in our
sequence .
2. Mise en scene
The clothes the characters wear is a crucial
part of representing these social groups, our
film is an action thriller that revolves the
around the idea of gangs and street culture
therefore the kidnapper in our sequence is
dressed accordingly. He is wearing a big black
coat and black gloves, he has his hood up as
he approaches the victim. This instantly gives
the connotations of certain street cultures or
stereotypes, he had his hood up which is
linked negatively with people who are
unlawful or trouble makers of some kind
which is why in many establishments hoods
are banned. He also had black leather gloves
on, this denotes the intention of leaving no
evidence of fingerprints which would to his
aims on taking part is some criminal activity.
He is a young black male which also adds the
to theme/stereotype of gangs and young
crime through his race but also shows that it
is young people we are representing. His
gender follows the general view of males
being more aggressive and more likely to
involve themselves in these activities that These two snapshots also show the implied
females are.
mind set of this character as both show him
hiding behinds something giving the feeling of
him sneaking and and being devious showing
bad intensions.
3. sound The sound track used is a grime/rap
song that is about the streets in
South London which helps set scene
and give an idea of who or which
social group we aim to represent.
This underground song which is in
fact a dedication to the streets of an
area in London allows for the viewer
to begin to get an impression of the
mind set and mentality of the
characters we are going to attempt
to portray. The sound track is digetic
as it is supposed to be the music
playing in one of the character’s (the
female) headphones but you could
say at one point it was non-digetic
sound as it was playing when the
other character (the male) was
pursuit of the female and at this
point he cant hear the music but the
headphones were used as a tool to
allow the soundtrack to have full
affect.
4. The female in our sequence is being
Character roles portrayed as the unaware, Oblivious
or you could say ‘dopey’ girl that
seems very vulnerable and is
therefore a weakness to anyone
she is related of connected to as
she needs to be protected. We
emphasized this through the
headphones, making it seem like
she was cut of from the world or in
her own little world, zoned out not
listening or focused on her
surroundings which her music
turned up loud.
The point of view shot emphasizes this further as it
allows you to see her line of vision which with her hood
up is very minimal, added to her music playing loud
portrays her to be very vulnerable or unaware contrasted
to the calculated kidnapper who is following her. The
viewer will get an idea of what they think Is going to
happen and this action code is then followed when he
attacks her.
