These slides use concepts from my (Jeff Funk) course entitled analyzing hi-tech opportunities to show how in improvements in printed electronics, wireless telecom, and the Internet are enabling the greater use of smart logistics. Logistics now represents 10% of global GDP thus representing a large percentage of expenditures. Improvements in printed electronics enables cheaper and better RFID tags and smart packaging; the latter can be accessed by logistic companies and consumers. All of this enables better monitoring of products throughout their journey to the marketplace, on ships, in warehouses, and in retail outlets. It also enables customers to more easily find products in retail outlets and for robots to find products in warehouses.
Digital Transformation is one of the most important business trends of our time. A lot of research has already been done on this topic. Most research has examined Digital Transformation within organisations, or between organisations
and their customers.
But in today’s globalised and outsourced world, an organisation’s success is no longer dependent on its own efforts alone. Today, the success of an organisation depends largely on how effectively it can orchestrate a vast, global network of supply chain partners to deliver goods and services that meet the needs of individual consumers.

Industrial Data Space is a virtual data space which supports the secure exchange and simple linking of data in business ecosystems on the basis of standards and by using collaborative governance models.
Data is only exchanged if it is requested from trustworthy certified partners. The data owner – i.e. the company – determines who is allowed to use the data in what way. As a result, the partners of one supply chain have joint access to certain data by mutual consent so that they can start something new, develop new business models, design their own processes more efficiently or initiate additional added value processes elsewhere, either alone or together.

BEinCPPS I4MS Phase II project aims at spreading the presence of CPPS-based industrial experiments to all the Regions of Europe, starting from 5 champion experiments located in advanced Vanguard EU regions. BEinCPPS provides a CPS/IOT Open Platform on top of which application developers could base innovative services e.g. in the field of production planning, resources management, logistics optimisation.
BEinCPPS Open Call 1 targets the development, testing and experimentation of innovative IT applications experiments, which, based on CPPS technology, could significantly enhance the impact of CPPS into the Manufacturing Industry and SMEs / Mid Caps in particular. Open APIs and datasets coming from the project's 5 experimental facilities will form an IT infrastructure for a realistic testing and experimentation of the new applications. A second wave of Open Calls will afterwards replicate the first wave best practices to additional regions in EU, facilitated by the presence of Regional Digital Manufacturing Innovation Hubs.

The Academy Cube concept was developed during the BMBF- and SAP AG-chaired Working Group 6 on
Education and Research for the Digital Society at the National IT Summit and was officially launched at
CeBIT 2013. Since March 2013, the programme has been offering six full curricula and twelve specific
