wide, this connotes
that he is shocked.
This is backed up by
the fact that he
initially smiles before
realising their is a
unknown man at the
door.
Due to the eye level shot, the audience is
pulled into the scene and the narrative,
with them wondering what is going to
happen. This is called FISKE with the
audience being stitched into the narrative.
Due to his change in facial expression from happy to concern, this
signifies that he is jealous. This conforms to the northern
stereotype that they are confrontational as even a police officer
seems to change his attitude as soon as he sees another man
with a woman that he knows personally. This creates the
representation that Northern police officers are corrupt, putting
personal matters above their job which changes their attitude.

This connotes that he
has obviously put them
on in a rush, coupled
with his red
face, exhaustion and
wide open eyes. The
officer could easily guess
that they have just had
sex.
The POV shot also
ads to the FISK which
was introduced
earlier. This is
because the
audience is looking
directly from the
officers eyes which
makes them feel like
a character in the
show itself.
The fact that the
officer is looking at
the loosely dressed
guy connotes that he
is being nosey. This
could conform to the
representation of
policemen being
nosey people who
always watch others.

4. The fact that the
officer asks for the
woman by
name, suggests that he
knows her personally.
This connotes that
they have met before
and that her family is
regularly in trouble
with the police. Couple
this with his earlier
jealousy suggests that
he has been attracted
to Fiona for some time
due to their meet ups.
This suggests that he
will be more hostile
towards the guy as he
is the loosely dressed
and a new face, which
also is why his facial
expression changed at
seeing this new guy.
He sees him as an
enemy who got with
his love interests.

The fact that he
is addressing
the guy
informally and
using Fiona’s
name suggest
that he is trying
to subtly attack
the guy by
showi ng that
he knows her
aswell, suggesti

than just him
who is
interested in
her.

what sort of family he
has gotten in with.
This could be that his
southern rich
lifestyle, evidenced by
his BMW and suit, is
not used to the
Northern families
involved in crime. This
further shows that the
family conforms to the
stereotype that
Northerners are
always involved with
the police and crime.

His shocked reaction
could have also been
caused by the fact tah5t
the officer knows who
Fiona is, suggesting that
maybe this policeman
has slept with her before
as a previous ex, this
conforms to the
stereotype that
Northern women are
cheap and easy, sleeping
with loads of men. This
goes against his rich
values and southern
ideology that women
should not act this way.
