2. Men
• They always seem to smoke cigarettes which
have become conventions of the genre. They
usually dress in suits and wear fedoras while
living in poor conditions such as a hotel room.
They usually have a high ranking in the police
force, being friends with the boss. They can be
seen drinking alcohol on multiple occasions.
These features usually signify that the male
character has suffered from a troubled past
and is lonely.
3. Women
• The women in film Noir are called “Femme Fetales”. They
usually pretend to love the men, usually a cop/detective,
and manipulate them into doing criminal things. They are
unreliable however as they will kill them as soon as their
usefulness has run out. They usually wear light dresses,
which become dark as soon as its revealed that they are
evil. They usually wear clothes with low neck lines and red
lipstick along with well kept hair which attracts the
attention of the males. They also wear high heels which
gives them a dominating statue, which becomes more
prevalent when their true nature is revealed. They usually
end up dying due to playing both sides and slipping up
along the way.
