This document provides an abstract and introduction for an article that analyzes the development of shadow economies in Serbia and Kosovo and their connection to political projects. It discusses how shadow economies emerged and consolidated in these areas in connection with politics, conflict, and social transformation. While sources are limited, the phenomenon of illiberal economies coupled with political projects is too important to neglect. The article will explore how considerable shadow economies in Serbia and Kosovo expressed adaptation to global marginalization and provided the basis for alternative political and economic projects, as well as social stratification and change.
