RoHS (Restriction of the use of Hazardous Substances) là tiêu chuẩn chất lượng cho các sản phẩm hàng hóa cần phải đạt được khi xuất khẩu vào thị trường Liên minh Châu Âu (EU) và Mỹ (USA). Hiện nay, ở EU các nhà sản xuất luôn bị kiểm soát rất chặt chẽ về hoạt động dễ gây nên ô nhiễm môi trường, đe dọa cuộc sống của người dân. RoHS – Quy định hạn chế một số chất nguy hại liên quan 6 loại hóa chất nguy hiểm đối với môi trường và sức khỏe con người trong quá trình sản xuất các sản phẩm hàng hóa: 1) Cadmium (Cd); 2) Thủy ngân (Hg); 3) Chromium hóa trị 6; 4) Hợp chất của Brom như PBBs (polybrominated biphenyls); 5) PBDEs (polybrominated diphenyl ethers); 6) Chì (Pb). Đây được xem là những chất hóa học phá hoại môi trường với mức độ lâu dài và đáng lo ngại, đặc biệt là chì.
