Meiosis occurs in the sporogenous tissue of plants, producing microspore mother cells that undergo microsporogenesis to form microspores clustered in tetrads. The microspores then separate and develop into pollen grains inside the anther, which dehisces and releases the pollen for pollination. In the ovule, a single megaspore mother cell undergoes megasporogenesis to form a functional megaspore that develops into the embryo sac containing seven cells and eight nuclei within the female gametophyte.
