How to get there?

History
• The first historical records of Seoul date back to 18 BCE. This year, the rulers of the Baekje principality
built the Wiryeseong defense complex in what is now Seoul. The stone walls were about 6 meters
high.
• During the struggle for power in the Korean Peninsula, whoever took control of the Seoul region
could rule the entire country. This was due to the intersection of several important trade routes in the
capital. In the 11th century, the ruler of the Goryeo dynasty built a palace complex in the area of
Seoul known as the Southern Capital.
• From the end of World War II, after the Korean Peninsula was divided into two states, Seoul became
the capital of the Republic of Korea , and Pyongyang became the capital of the Democratic People's
Republic of Korea . During the Korean War, Seoul was briefly occupied by the communist occupiers,
and the capital of South Korea was moved to Busan .
• Seoul was almost completely destroyed during the Korean War. After the war, however, it was quickly
rebuilt with the help of Western countries, mainly the United States.

BUKCHON HANOK VILLAGE
• The houses come from the times of the Joseon dynasty, some of them have even 600 years of
history and people still live in them. Therefore, you will find signs on the site reminding you to

NAMSAN HILL I N SEOUL TOWER.
• The radio and television tower was built in 1969. In 1980, the Tower was opened to everyone in
1980 and has been one of the symbols of Seoul ever since. On site you will find an observation
deck, pubs and restaurants. You can take the cable car or walk to it and go for a walk on Namsan
Hill. The Digital Observatory at N Seoul Tower is one of the best vantage points in Seoul, because
there you have a 360-degree panorama of the city.

GWANGJANG MARKET
• Gwangjang is located in the old, big hall, and when you look at the local salesmen, you get the
impression that they have been selling their delicacies there for years. This is where you can eat
kimchi and various Korean squares and perch at a small stand for local soup. Here you can also try
soondae, i.e. Korean black pudding, small gimbap rolls, and above all, various kimchi or mung
bean pancakes. Gwangjang has been operating in Seoul for over 100 years! There were various
markets and bazaars in Korea at that time, but they were rather temporary. Gwangjang was the
first market in Seoul to be given a permanent address and operated daily. You will find there not
only food, but also clothes and household items.

HELLO KITTY ISLAND
• If there's any little Hello Kitty fan with you, make a note that this is a must-see. The museum is
not large, but it still impresses kids and not only. It's a bit like Hello Kitty's house, all pink and full
of pictures and figurines of this cute kitty, where we visit individual rooms and everything can be
described in a short #hellokittystyle.

AMAZING LIBRARY - STARFIELD COEX
MALL
• Library in a shopping mall? Yes, this is what the Starflied Library in the Starfield Coex Mall shows.
The library has over 50,000 books and about 200 seats. All in the heart of the mall. So if you have
never liked quiet libraries, where you are afraid to even whisper, and you liked reading and
learning in cafes, this place is for you.
Akademia WSB
BONGEUNSA TEMPLE
• An atmospheric temple near the Coex shopping center. It looks amazing in combination with the
very modern surroundings and the mass of glass skyscrapers next to it. It is wonderful to visit
because there are no crowds here. You can safely admire the surroundings.

GANGNAM STYLE MONUMENT -
GANGNAM STYLE HANDS
• Golden Hands is a must-see when visiting Seoul. They are the new symbol of the Gangnam
district made famous by the big hot in 2012. Who didn't know song "Gangam Style", the chorus of
PSY? This music is still alive here and you can dance to it under the characteristic golden hands. The
hands are in a gesture straight from the Gangam style video. The hands are on the east side of the
COEX, very close to the Starfield Coex Mall entrance. If you are going there by metro, you have to
take either exit 6 for Samsung Station or exit 7 for Bongeunsa Station.

What legends
and myths are
known in
Seoul?

The Tangun myth
• This myth consists of four parts. According to the same story,
Hwanung, the younger son of the Heaven Lord Hwanin, wants to
come down to earth and rule the people. Hwanin chooses a place
for his son, assigns him an entourage and gives him symbols of
power: three heavenly seals. Hwanung descends to the top of
Mount Taebaek, founds a holy city - the capital of Sinsi, and gives
people many skills and rights. In the third part of the myth, there
is a tigress and a she-bear who want to become human. To this
end, they have to pass the test set out by Hwanung for them. A
bear who is turned into a woman is flooding. The tigress, on the
other hand, fails the test and remains in her form. Then,
transformed into a female, the bear asks Hwanung for offspring.
He agrees to her request and a symbolic rapprochement between
heaven and earth follows. From this union is born Tangun, lord of
sandalwood, founder of the royal family.

The Dzumong myth
• This is the oldest written Korean myth, it comes from a
Chinese collection from the 1st century CE. It is the story of
the founder of the Kogurjo state. According to this myth,
King Kymwa met the daughter of Habek, the spirit of the
river, seduced and abandoned by Hemosu, the spirit of
heaven. Kymwa took her to his palace, and there she gave
birth to a large egg. The King tried many ways to destroy the
egg. When that failed, he gave them back to his mother.
Then Dzumong emerged from the egg. He learned the art of
war very quickly, which caused the envy of the king's sons.
They decided to kill Dzumong, but he managed to escape.
When he and his friends reached the river, he shouted that
he was the son of heaven and the grandson of the river. Then
the fish and turtles created a bridge over which Dzumong
and his companions crossed to the other side of the river.
When Dzumong reached Dzolbondz, he built a royal
residence there, established the foundations of a new
nation, and named his state Kogurjo.

Virgin Ghosts Chill You To The Bone
• Ghosts and virgins are the main
elements of Korean culture. So of
course virgin spirits are
something. They are said to be
found in abandoned buildings and
forests, most often with long hair
covering their face, and wearing
dirty white dresses. When they
appear around you, the
temperature also drops sharply.
These spectra are called Cho-nyo-
Gwishin.

The Slit-Mouthed
Woman
• If you are a toddler walking alone on
Korean streets, you will meet a scary
woman with a red surgical mask. She
will come up to you and ask if you think
she is pretty. If you answer her no, she'll
kill you with the scissors. If you answer
"yes", he will remove his mask to show
the mouth that has been cut ear to ear
and ask the same question again.
Admittedly, if you answer no this time, it
won't kill you, it only causes your mouth
to be as cut as hers. If you try to escape,
it will appear in front of you.
