A sestina is a poetic form consisting of 6 stanzas (sestets) followed by a final 3 line stanza (tercet), where the last word of each line is repeated in a fixed order that rotates through each stanza. The poetic form originated in 12th century France and was popularized by troubadours. It uses repetition of end words to interweave the themes and ideas expressed in each stanza.
