Ideas / plans / images from SER/VE  Revisions and returns after the demise of Teen Island & the NSF grant ;  Change starting mid sept 2010 to bring in my teachers
Preparation for phase 3 & science Get ready for bringing in the home school group for a science lesson; figure what lesson I can have the science teachers in the MAT do too
MAT:  Central science area / multi-storied / expandable ;  top view; two stories (at least)  / all view the amphitheater / all have side entrances too / soundproof sections  Biology  Earth science Amphitheater:  auditorium / voting seats / stage w/ whiteboard & projector ; goes into the ground; walkway to science area around the side Physics Chemistry Hallway / announcements & bulletins
Items & artifacts (details in notes) Standard items – bulletin boards / web displayers / notecard servers (for more info)  Use the hovers but have signs on them too Labs & artifacts  White boards and presentation areas Meeting area / cafeteria backdrop /  The land is approximately  40 by 50 meters now Banners & flags / MAT logo
Things to learn in SL  Notecard giver (common symbol)  Door opener  / seat orienter Poller – sitting at a seat can enter in a number for a contest / or, a way to poll someone at a contest  Soundproofing by layout and elevation Teleports &
Stories / games / themes Test different GPS / google earth with Raquel and Patrick ; video tape the learning ; use wordpress Work with ESC MAT students to find good formats What do their kids like?  What do they watch?  What are the motivators?   What is a scientific forum?
Conditions for usefulness of SL in higher ed More than just walk around; must be a meeting and info place too You need to have the scheduling embedded
Revisions / updates to MOU; post NSF reject Revamp the setup; take FRAPS of what exists; put into inventory; take pictures  New conceptualization MOU brings in the science area too at the back of the mall  More items made from immediate sale – rewards for science spending; have building classes in the sandbox ; make a place where items could be considered for sale in the store; link in the tutorials made already  Pods and apartments are removed – except for the few pods that are under construction  Make the island management a stand alone and bring in education center – use the MAT science center as a model / bring it over maybe into the MOU
Directions for making & posting reports in Slideshare Follow the directions in the assignment and put the results into a PowerPoint slide that you save on your computer Go to www.slideshare.net/MathSciCrystal and click Signin at the top right of the screen  Type in the password – it will be given to you by the instructor Click Upload and locate your PowerPoint on your computer  When the upload is completed, copy-paste the pathway (the URL) that will move to your slideshow and email the link to your instructor

Editor's Notes

  1. Key features: areas devoted to each science but central shared announcements and bulletin board areas and auditorium ; there should be an eventual second floor that can be accessed from inside and from outside; maybe a pathway around and a central arboretum area too; there needs to be a teen recreation and meeting area
  2. Need to have many generative themes that can be played out here ; science meeetings, town meetings;
  3. Engage patrick & raquel in making the transition
