This document analyzes and compares two movie posters, one intended to convey a mood of horror but failing to do so (the "Bad Poster") and one succeeding in conveying a mood of dread and despair (the "Good Poster"). It finds the Bad Poster uses inappropriate colors and visual elements, lacks visual harmony and proximity between elements. In contrast, the Good Poster effectively uses monotone black and white colors, balance, figure-ground ambiguity, proximity and closure to convey its intended mood through a clean, uncluttered composition.
