thGAP - BAbyss in Moderno!! Transgenic Human Germline Alternatives ProjectMarc Dusseiller Dusjagr
thGAP - Transgenic Human Germline Alternatives Project, presents an evening of input lectures, discussions and a performative workshop on artistic interventions for future scenarios of human genetic and inheritable modifications.
To begin our lecturers, Marc Dusseiller aka "dusjagr" and Rodrigo Martin Iglesias, will give an overview of their transdisciplinary practices, including the history of hackteria, a global network for sharing knowledge to involve artists in hands-on and Do-It-With-Others (DIWO) working with the lifesciences, and reflections on future scenarios from the 8-bit computer games of the 80ies to current real-world endeavous of genetically modifiying the human species.
We will then follow up with discussions and hands-on experiments on working with embryos, ovums, gametes, genetic materials from code to slime, in a creative and playful workshop setup, where all paticipant can collaborate on artistic interventions into the germline of a post-human future.

1. The Dominant
This dominant is the character in the photo. This dominant is created by being one of the
largest objects in the frame. Also the focus of the object in the middle ground of the frame
with the half lighting on his face draws the attention towards him.
Where is our eye attracted to? Why?
2. Lighting Key
High key? Low key? High contrast? Some combination of these?
The lighting key in this still is high contrast lighting because of how it features the light coming from the
left side of the shot, and it draws a darker shadow on the right of the character’s face and the edges of his
body creating the contrast. The contrast also gives depth to the frame by the brightness of the foreground
compared to the darkness in shadows of the background.
3. Shot and Camera Proxemics
What type of shot? How far away from the camera is the action?
This fame is an example of a medium long shot because it shows the full person in the shot, and
also features a good amount of the setting around him. This shows the subject in relation to the
surroundings.
4. Camera Angle
Are we (and the camera) looking up or down on the subject? Or is the camera neutral (eye level)?
This still shows an eye-level shot camera angle, this gives the audience a very clear view of the
character.
5. Color Values
What is the dominant color? Are there contrasting foils? Is there color symbolism?
The dominant color in this still is red. There could be some symbolism with the red in relation to the
whole story with being in the war and the harsh deaths of the people who are in the casquets in front
of him.
6. Lens/Filter/Stock
How do these distort or comment on the photographed materials?
This shot could have been taken with the wide angle lens due to the great amount of depth seen in the
image or with a fast film stock because of the good registration of the part of the character’s face that
isn't well illuminated,
7. Subsidiary Contrasts
What are the other main objects in the shot besides the dominant?
Besides the dominant the audience’s eye are really drawn to the casquets that are in the foreground,
and the middle ground. This is due to their placement and the extreme contrast of the brightness of
them compared to almost everything else.
8. Density
How much visual information is packed into the image?
This image is not very dense because of the area of the shot compared to the amount of objects that are
in frame. There is about three larger items in frame and everything else is smaller and further back in the
photo.
9. Composition
How is the two-dimensional space segmented and
organized? What is the underlying design?
This shot has a horizontal composition. The lines on the flag
and background are horizontal which visually show
peacefulness and are visually at rest.
10. Form
Is this form open or closed? Are there open spaces that aren’t busy or taken up?
This image is an open structured shot. It’s not overly busy or unorganized.
It wasn’t a natural shot, it was clearly planned out well.
11. Framing
Is the framing tight or loose?
This shot is a tight frame, the actor is placed on the edge of the frame
with not a lot of room to move around considering the setting being a
plane and the distance from the camera to the actor.
12. Depth of Field
This shot is a Deep-Focus because the whole image is in focus, not just the actor ot the background. The
scene is completely clear to the audience.
Does the background or foreground comment in any way to the mid-ground?
13. Character Placement
What part of the frame does the character occupy? Front, bottom, left or right?
The character is placed to the left of the shot signifying that the director wants
you to fully take in the whole shot instead of just the character.
14. Which way does the character look? At the camera or away?
Staging Positions
The character is in a Profile position. He is looking not at the camera and
seems deeply lost in thought. It doesn't look as if he were looking at ot to the
camera.
15. Character Proxemics
How much space is there between characters?
This shot is a Public Distance. There is no other actors seen in this
shot but in the movie he is in a plane which would require a pilot.
