Food provides us with energy, and energy is derived from nutrients.
Nutrients are substances found in food.
Carbohydrates(bread, chocolate, candy, rice, biscuit)
Proteins(meat, fish, beans)
Fats(dairy products, cake, ice cream)
Vitamins & minerals(fruits & vegetables)
Many food additives have no nutritional value and could sometimes affect your body in undesirable ways.
But in a good part(read the meaning)
Color is added to food to enhance its visual appearance making it more attractive to eat.
Natural color additives(atsuete(annatto)-bright orange-red color, chlorophyll for green)
Synthetic color additives(chemicals, like gelatins & sodas)(cause asthma, migraine,thyroid cancer)
Flavor enhancers(vetsin or monosodium glutamate)
Emulsifiers & stabilizers(food additives that maintain consistency of texture, like margarine, salad dressings, mayonnaise-potential to damage intestinal barrier, risk in chronic disease)
Thickeners(help increase the viscosity or thickness of substance used to make food-like gelatin,pectin-cause constipation)
Sweeteners(give sweet taste to any food substance-cause weight gain, high blood pressure, heart disease)
