September 2011

Welcome to 3rd Grade!
My name is Tina Martin and I will be your child’s teacher this year! I have
been eagerly waiting for school to start so that I could meet your kiddos! They
have not disappointed! They are such a great group of kids! It has been a treat
to get to know them and learn their individual personalities.
I have been teaching over 10 years and received National Certification 3 years
ago. I’ve recently gone back to school and am a graduate student at EWU. This is
my 6th year at Regal. I just love this school and being a part of such a great
community. I have been married for 12 years to my best friend and my favorite
times are spent reading, running, cooking, boating, and spending time with friends
and family.
I look forward to meeting you all soon. If you are in our neck of the woods,
don’t be shy, stop by and say hi!

Our Shining Star for Next week is… Randy!!! He will be the Shining Star next week. He may
bring 5-6 pictures of himself and family to display for the week in the classroom Monday. He
may also bring one special item to share on Friday. All items will be returned Friday.

Last week our Star of the Week was Dylan, and he did a great job calling tables that were quiet,
excusing our lunch line to go when they were showing they were ready and making sure he chose
different classmates to pass out papers. Way to go Dylan!

Open House… We will be having Open House on Tuesday, September 30th from 5:30-6:30. I
hope you can make it! This is a great time for us to meet and to see where your child spends
their day. See you there!!!

Discipline Policy… Please see attached letter regarding classroom responsibilities, procedures
for discipline, and incentives.
Supplies… These are the supplies students need for Third grade. Please send these to school as
soon as you can. I appreciate your help with this.
Box of 24 crayons Washable markers 24 pencils
Fiskars scissors Plastic pencil box Disinfectant wipes
2 boxes of Kleenex Backpack
3 plain pocket folders 3 spiral notebooks, 1 subject

Homework… I have received so many questions about this lately! I can’t believe the kids are so
eager to start this. Homework will not be sent home nightly unless it is work not finished in
class. The other time it may be if they are working on an assignment that needs more time, in
which case it will be due the following day. Any homework not completed will delay our student’s
progress to learn the next step. I appreciate your support with this. I will send out a reading
log on Mondays so students can log 20-30 minutes of nightly reading and return it on Friday.

Fall Clothing… My, my the weather can’t decide if it wants to be hot or cold!! Please make sure
to send your child to school in layers. It can be a little on the chilly side in our room and a long
sweatshirt can certainly take the edge off.

Attendance…Please try to send our kiddos to school on time every day. We are doing many
assessments right now and when they miss out, they fall behind. I really appreciate your
support! Thanks!

Morning Snack… Regal has a grant this year that supplies all students with a nutritious snack
each morning. So far the kids have enjoyed yummy apples and bananas to kick their day off to a
great start. They’ve been responsible by making sure all fruit is deposited in our ‘Fruit Garbage
Can’. What a treat!

Specialist Schedule…
Monday & Tuesday—PE (Students must wear running shoes or they will not be allowed to
participate.)
Wednesday& Thursday—Music
Friday—Library

Water Bottles…The kids may bring a water bottle with a screw-on cap to school. I allow them
to keep it at their desk to drink throughout the day. Only send sports bottles and recycled
water bottles under 20 ounces. Please do not send any flavored drinks or milk.

Scholastic Books... if you are interested in purchasing books please make checks payable to
Scholastic for the exact amount. Please send orders to school by Friday, October 1st.
Save the Date…
