How Much Search Is Out There?
Jumpshot data suggest shows:
● Google proper has about 789 million daily desktop searches
● These figures rise 25-30% if you include searches on Google’s extended family
of Images, Maps and YouTube
While the number of traditional Google web searches is trending down – about 10-15%
since January 2016 - that still leaves us with a pretty healthy 280-300 billion searches
a year to focus on.
Beyond traditional web search, the data also shows that use of the Google app on
Android phones is growing, and well ahead of other search apps.
● In May 2019, 82% of Android phones were used to access the Google app, up
from 77% just since January 2019
● Google app users access it four times a day, twice the rate of other search apps
● For other search apps, this figure is less than 5%

Other Web Search Players
While Google’s platforms still dominate the
market share, it’s worth noting that other
“search players” like Ask, Twitter, and
Wikipedia are holding steady.
DuckDuckGo has seen considerable growth
over the past year and could be one to
watch as privacy concerns continue to be a
hot topic.

Fact: Better Optimized Sites Get More Traffic!
1. Pages that aren’t
crawled, don’t get
traffic!
2. Internal linking
makes a big
difference (RIP
internal nofollow)
28. @jakebohall
Percentage of URLs crawled at each page level improved, indicating better internal linking implemented (result of
Hybrid PDP pages and other improvements.)
Improvement in crawl budget has allowed Google to crawl deeper into our site.
29. Increase in the number of active URLs on Google indicates that a larger number of our pages are receiving traffic than prior. This supports
our efforts toward increasing authority to pages deeper in our site and greater trust across the site as a whole.

30. Improved crawl rates indicate that technical SEO and internal link optimizations made to the site
are influencing Google to crawl more priority pages.

Look at keywords where we rank well, but competitors or other pages have the featured snippet or the top
position. Pull the site currently getting the featured snippet and mine their backlinks to derive a list for
