The summary highlights that breast cancer risk is associated with factors that increase estrogen exposure like early menarche and late menopause. Childbearing and breastfeeding may reduce risk. While only a minority of cases are linked to gene mutations, changes to modifiable risk factors like obesity and alcohol consumption could lower breast cancer incidence. The conclusion states that identifying new lifestyle risk factors and chemoprevention trials may further progress in battling breast cancer.
International Journal of Biometrics and Bioinformatics(IJBB) Volume (3) Issue...CSCJournals
This document reviews approaches for predicting breast cancer prognosis using both clinical data and gene expression profiles. Traditional prognosis models rely mainly on clinical factors like age, tumor size, and lymph node status, but can fail to distinguish molecularly distinct subgroups. Gene expression profiling via microarray technology has improved molecular classification and shown promise for prognosis. However, most studies have focused on gene signatures without fully leveraging clinical data. Integrating clinical and gene expression data may enhance accuracy by accounting for their complementary nature. The review discusses feature selection and classification methods applied to both data types, as well as related work on data integration. The goal is to develop an improved prognosis model that incorporates both clinical and molecular factors.
PREDICTION OF BREAST CANCER,COMPARATIVE REVIEW OF MACHINE LEARNING TECHNIQUES...IRJET Journal
This document presents a comparative review of machine learning techniques for breast cancer prediction. It analyzes several algorithms applied to the Wisconsin Breast Cancer Diagnosis (WBCD) dataset, including SVM, KNN, Random Forest, AdaBoost, and XGBoost. XGBoost achieved the highest accuracy of 98.24% with 0% false negatives. The study demonstrates that machine learning can effectively predict breast cancer and increase early detection accuracy.

USING DATA MINING TECHNIQUES FOR DIAGNOSIS AND PROGNOSIS OF CANCER DISEASEIJCSEIT Journal
Breast cancer is one of the leading cancers for women in developed countries including India. It is the
second most common cause of cancer death in women. The high incidence of breast cancer in women has
increased significantly in the last years. In this paper we have discussed various data mining approaches
that have been utilized for breast cancer diagnosis and prognosis. Breast Cancer Diagnosis is
distinguishing of benign from malignant breast lumps and Breast Cancer Prognosis predicts when Breast
Cancer is to recur in patients that have had their cancers excised. This study paper summarizes various
review and technical articles on breast cancer diagnosis and prognosis also we focus on current research
being carried out using the data mining techniques to enhance the breast cancer diagnosis and prognosis.

"The European breast screening programmes are preventing large numbers of breast cancer deaths" ,
Mireille Broeders, Department of Epidemiology, Biostatistics and HTA, Radboud University Nijmegen Medical
Centre, Nijmegen, The Netherlands
"After considering all published data from European studies, the reduction in breast cancer mortality
associated with mammographic population-based service screening programmes is in the range of 25–31%
for women invited for screening and 38–48% for women actually screened with sufficient follow-up time. It
appears that much of the current controversy surrounding the value of mammography screening is due to the
use of inappropriate methodological approaches that are unable to capture the true effect of mammographic
screening. Overall, the results of this first comprehensive review of European breast screening services show
that for every 1,000 women screened every two years from the age of 50 to the age of about 68-69, between
seven and nine lives would be saved, and four cases would be over-diagnosed. The European breast
screening programmes are preventing large numbers of breast cancer deaths, and the benefits outweigh the
harms of screening. The programmes should continue to provide high quality screening services and should
work towards achieving targets on coverage, uptake and assessment rates. In addition, communication
methods should be improved in order to raise women’s awareness, and to make information on the pros and
cons of breast cancer screening more accessible, relevant and comprehensible"

Q&A of the month
"What is the current status of targeted therapies for ovarian cancer?"
"Currently the only targeted therapy routinely employed in ovarian cancer is directed at the cancer-
associated blood vessels. The term, “anti-angiogenesis”, is employed to describe this therapeutic
concept. The drug, bevacizumab, has been shown to be helpful in some patients when used alone
(single agent therapy) or employed in combination with certain chemotherapeutic agents. Other
targeted therapies remain under active clinical investigation (for example, PARP inhibitors), but have
not at this point in time been approved for routine use by the FDA outside the confines of clinical
trials"
