1. After completing my degree at Southampton University, my initial work placement as an
Analyst Programmer was outside of my study area. Committing myself to this role I took
the opportunity provided by the council to study for the British Computer Society (BCS)
Professional Graduate Diploma, which I conducted in my own time.
Project Management was included as a part of my BCS qualification. I have attended
training courses in Prince II (overview) and the use of MS Project. Over 10 years of
practical experience in Project Management has been gained working within local
government, a financial institution and an educational organisation, each of which has
their own different priorities and approaches.
Working for HCC I project managed small system implementations within different
council departments as well as larger inter-authority projects for system upgrades and
enhancements. I combined using my strong organisational skills, technical knowledge
and customer rapport to ensure projects met customer expectations, were delivered on
time and within budget.
My projects at HCC adopted the waterfall approach with project documentation including;
Project Initiation Documents, Scopes, Business Requirements, Gap Analysis, Design
Specifications, Test Plans, Implementation Plans, Change Controls and User Training
Guides where needed.
Stakeholders on my projects included; Third party software providers, Departmental IT
representatives, Inter-authority social service representatives, Training teams and IT
Services.
I developed strong and trusted relationships with my stakeholders which led to me taking
on shared Account Management responsibilities. Working as an Account Manager
involved reporting on progress of current projects, providing explanations of new
technologies and how they could be used and producing proposals for future projects.
I became one of the council’s technical experts in the Enterprise Buyer module of SAP,
trained at SAP HQ. I was responsible for monitoring stability and implementing
enhancements to this system, producing work instructions to support new users and
providing face to face training when needed.
Moving to Australia I worked as a Business Analyst for a superannuation company
where it was recognised that I was a self-starter with a committed approach. I was
responsible for reviewing their exit statements and letters, identifying the cause of
miscalculations and implementing resolutions. I quickly developed an understanding of
this new business area and the systems used. I worked with business experts and the IT
team to extract complex data which I reviewed in conjunction with the erroneous reports
to find the source of errors. This was a high profile project; my stakeholders included the
head of Perth office, legal and compliance representatives, the business manager,
business users and the IT team. I developed respectful professional relationships with
stakeholders and ensured all of their needs were considered. It was essential that I
delivered scheduled updates to all stakeholders to ensure they were aware of project
status and developments.

2. As a result of my detailed investigations I identified that payments from customer
investments received by the business were not being correctly allocated when a
customer was exiting. I reviewed the documented processes in this area as well as
observing the front line staff. Together we identified the cause of errors and developed
new processes which were implemented to correct this issue.
Initially employed as a Faculty Website Developer at Edith Cowan University I was asked
to move to the Corporate Web Team when my original 12 month contract finished. I had
proved that I could build strong relationships with a variety of stakeholders from faculty
administrators to the Heads of Schools and Research centres and that I had a logical
and organised approach to work. I preferred to schedule and plan changes rather than
continually working on an on demand basis.
My understanding of both business needs and technical reasons for change led to our
faculty’s website being chosen for the pilot migration into the new website content
management system (web CMS). I liaised with the heads of schools and research
centres, our faculty manager, faculty administrators and the faculty marketing team to
gather requirements for these new pages and worked with the central web team to
produce a new site structure that would provide a logical approach for presenting faculty
content which could be implemented university wide.
Moving to the corporate web team I was responsible for managing the migration of two
further faculties into the webCMS. For both of these migration projects I scheduled
weekly update meetings with minutes being recorded and circulated to all stakeholders.
Resource estimates were based on past projects and regularly reviewed to check
progress. My risks and issues log originally used the team excel template however this
proved time consuming and problematic as it needed to be accessed within different
departments on different operating systems. I worked with my team to develop a new
method of recording and maintaining risks and issues using the new webCMS.
My attention to detail and provision of effective communications to the correct
stakeholders ensured that there were no surprises and project was delivered within the
planned timescale.
I was also responsible for providing the faculties and service areas with advice regarding
content presentation and writing styles. I worked with the Marketing Team to
development agreed standards for corporate style and web design, and was responsible
for communicating these requirements to others.
Post implementation I created a working group for representatives from different areas
providing a forum for sharing ideas and voicing concerns. I acted as chair for this group
which proved to be an effective way of addressing any issues raised before they were
allowed to escalate as well as identifying areas where extra training was needed.
I have a professional, logical, committed approach to my work. I act with integrity and
always show respect to my colleagues. My open manner and professional approach
gives me the ability to liaise with stakeholders and influence decisions, actions or
perceptions of others in a straightforward and honest way.

3. I am self-motivated and work well on my own as well as part of project team. I am always
willing to take on new responsibilities and challenges and to learn new skills.
