2. Purpose of our Manual Training School
• To prepare men to be, “men who will not be
bought or sold; men who in their inmost souls
are true and honest; men who do not fear to
call sin by its right name; men whose
conscience is as true to duty as the needle to
the pole; men who will stand for the right
though the heavens fall. ---Education, 57
(1903)
3. Foundational Principles of our Manual
Training School
• Bible
• Agriculture
• Trades
• Medical Missionary
4. • Bible – The bible is to be the basis of all reforms. It is
our guide, our charter, and our creed.
• Agriculture – Cultivation of the soil for self
sustaining, healthy food, while learning the simple, yet
profound lessons of soul winning.
• Trades– Developing self discipline, financial
independence, economy, thrift and industry through
various trades suited to prepare missionaries for self
supporting ministry.
• Medical Missionary – Preparing students in
understanding the unique relationship between the
body, mind and soul; which will aid them in developing
a strong constitution and fit them to minister to the
physical as well as the spiritual needs of people.
6. Trades
• For young men and women, there should be
establishments where they could learn
different trades, which would bring into
exercise their muscles as well as their mental
powers. If the youth can have but a one-sided
education, which is of the greater
consequence – a knowledge of the
sciences, with all the disadvantages to health
and life, or a knowledge of labor for practical
life?
7. • We unhesitatingly answer, the latter. If one
must be neglected, let it be the study of
books.
