Utilization of jarosite generated from lead
Large quantities of industrial waste by-products are produced in India by different type of industries viz. Jarosite, Jarofix, Copper slag, Zinc slag, Red mud, Steel slag and Coal ash. For many years these materials were considered as waste and were dumped haphazardly near the producing plants. Efforts are being carried out by research studies to utilize these materials in embankment, sub base and base layers of road construction. Experimental studies have been also carried out to investigate their feasibility as an additive in cement concrete. Jarosite material is produced during extraction of zinc ore concentrate by hydrometallurgy operation. When zinc ore concentrate is roasted at 9000 C and subjected to leaching, Jarosite is formed as a waste material. The Jarosite material is mixed with 2 % lime and 10 % cement and transported to the disposal area as a Jarofix material.

CFD simulations analyze different injector positions and their effects. Graphs of mass flow rate and combustion chamber pressure show the best position is at the transfer port. Emission levels are also studied and compared to a conventional engine. The ignition system is recommended to use a fast-response inductive ignition to suit the direct-injection setup, though it can still work with the existing ignition.

The study developed an analytical model and finite element model to analyze the effects of applying ultrasonic vibration to the die during tube hydroforming. The results showed that ultrasonic vibration increased corner filling ratio and produced a more uniform tube wall thickness compared to conventional hydroforming. Both the analytical and finite element models predicted similar trends and were in good agreement. Applying ultrasonic vibration with the proper amplitude improved metal flow and formability of tubes during hydroforming.

Soil degradation implies long term decline in soil’s productivity and its environment moderating capacity.In other words,it means decline in soil quality,or reduction in attributes of the soil in relation to specific functions of value to humans.It has plagued the earth since the dawn of settled agriculture.In ancient times ,soil degradation caused the downfall of several thriving ancient civilizations,eg.the Harappan and the Kalibangan cultures in the Indus Valley,the Mesopotamian and Lydian kingdoms in the Mediterranean region, and the Mayan civilization in Central America.During the 20th century,the increase in population has drastically accentuated the risks and extent of soil degradation.(Lal,2001). Land degradation is not being adequately addressed, but is of vital importance to raise awareness so that future land management decisions can lead to more sustainable and resilient agricultural systems. Of India’s total geographical area (328.7 Mha), 304.9 Mha comprise the reporting area with 264.5 Mha being used for agriculture, forestry, pasture and other biomass production. The severity and extent of soil degradation in the country has been previously assessed by many agencies (Table 1). According to the National Bureau of Soil Survey and Land Use Planning ~146.8 Mha is degraded. Water erosion is the most serious degradation problem in India, resulting in loss of topsoil and terrain deformation. Based on first approximation analysis of existing soil loss data, the average soil erosion rate was ~16.4 ton ha−1year−1, resulting in an annual total soil loss of 5.3 billion tons throughout the country .Nearly 29% of total eroded soil is permanently lost to the sea, while 61% is simply transferred from one place to another and the remaining 10% is deposited in reservoirs.( Bhattacharyya et al.,2015)

In India around 147 million hectares (Mha) of land is under degradation, this includes 94 Mha from water erosion, 16 Mha from acidification, 14 Mha from flooding, 9 Mha from wind erosion, 6 Mha from salinity, and 7 Mha from a combination of factors. Even though The total land area of India is just 2.4% of the world’s land area , it ranks second in the world in farming. Agriculture employs almost 50% of the total workforce in India. So there is an increased need for monitoring and researching the various facets of land degradation. Electrokinetics is defined as the physicochemical transport of charge, action of charged particles and effects of applied electric potentials on formation and fluid transport in porous media. The utilization of electrokinetic in geotechnical engineering for dewatering, consolidation and stabilization of low permeability and to transport certain chemical species in an electrolyte system had opened new opportunities for application in geo environmental engineering. Approaching anode is one of the enhancement techniques in electrokinetic soil remediation. This technique is reported to give promising migration for heavy metals under shorter treatment time and at lower cost in comparison to normal fixed anode system. In the present study, the effectiveness of fixed anode and approaching anode techniques in electrokinetic soil remediation for lead migration under different types of wetting agents (0.01M NaNO3 and 0.1M citric acid) was investigated. He developed new testing apparatus and conducted fundamental research on topics like seepage, soil liquefaction, and slope stability. Casagrande also helped establish the soil mechanics program at Harvard University and organized the first International Conference on Soil Mechanics and Foundation Engineering in 1936 to promote the work of his colleague and mentor, Karl Terzaghi. Together, Casagrande and Terzaghi are considered pioneering founders of the discipline of soil mechanics.

Kansai International Airport is an artificial island airport located 5km offshore in Osaka Bay, Japan. It was constructed to avoid noise pollution on residential areas and land disputes. The airport was built in two phases, with the first phase in 1994 reclaiming 510ha of land through driving 1 million sand columns and depositing 180 million cubic meters of soil. The second phase in 2007 expanded the airport with another 545ha island built 200m from the first, using advanced ground improvement techniques like sand drains, sand piles and deep soil mixing to stabilize the soft clay layers below.

Electric propulsion technology is widely used in many kinds of vehicles in recent years, and aircrafts are no exception. Technically, UAVs are electrically propelled but tend to produce a significant amount of noise and vibrations. Ion propulsion technology for drones is a potential solution to this problem. Utilization of jarosite generated from lead
Large quantities of industrial waste by-products are produced in India by different type of industries viz. Jarosite, Jarofix, Copper slag, Zinc slag, Red mud, Steel slag and Coal ash. For many years these materials were considered as waste and were dumped haphazardly near the producing plants. Efforts are being carried out by research studies to utilize these materials in embankment, sub base and base layers of road construction. Experimental studies have been also carried out to investigate their feasibility as an additive in cement concrete. Jarosite material is produced during extraction of zinc ore concentrate by hydrometallurgy operation. When zinc ore concentrate is roasted at 9000 C and subjected to leaching, Jarosite is formed as a waste material. The Jarosite material is mixed with 2 % lime and 10 % cement and transported to the disposal area as a Jarofix material.

Of India’s total geographical area (328.7 Mha), 304.9 Mha comprise the reporting area with 264.5 Mha being used for agriculture, forestry, pasture and other biomass production. The severity and extent of soil degradation in the country has been previously assessed by many agencies (Table 1). According to the National Bureau of Soil Survey and Land Use Planning ~146.8 Mha is degraded. Water erosion is the most serious degradation problem in India, resulting in loss of topsoil and terrain deformation. Based on first approximation analysis of existing soil loss data, the average soil erosion rate was ~16.4 ton ha−1year−1, resulting in an annual total soil loss of 5.3 billion tons throughout the country .Nearly 29% of total eroded soil is permanently lost to the sea, while 61% is simply transferred from one place to another and the remaining 10% is deposited in reservoirs.( Bhattacharyya et al.,2015)

Approaching anode is one of the enhancement techniques in electrokinetic soil remediation. This technique is reported to give promising migration for heavy metals under shorter treatment time and at lower cost in comparison to normal fixed anode system. In the present study, the effectiveness of fixed anode and approaching anode techniques in electrokinetic soil remediation for lead migration under different types of wetting agents (0.01M NaNO3 and 0.1M citric acid) was investigated. Using data from 41 years in Patna’ India’ the study’s goal is to analyze the trends of how often it rains on a weekly, seasonal, and annual basis (1981−2020). First, utilizing the intensity-duration-frequency (IDF) curve and the relationship by statistically analyzing rainfall’ the historical rainfall data set for Patna’ India’ during a 41 year period (1981−2020), was evaluated for its quality. Changes in the hydrologic cycle as a result of increased greenhouse gas emissions are expected to induce variations in the intensity, length, and frequency of precipitation events. One strategy to lessen vulnerability is to quantify probable changes and adapt to them. Techniques such as log-normal, normal, and Gumbel are used (EV-I). Distributions were created with durations of 1, 2, 3, 6, and 24 h and return times of 2, 5, 10, 25, and 100 years. There were also mathematical correlations discovered between rainfall and recurrence interval.
Findings: Based on findings, the Gumbel approach produced the highest intensity values, whereas the other approaches produced values that were close to each other. The data indicates that 461.9 mm of rain fell during the monsoon season’s 301st week. However, it was found that the 29th week had the greatest average rainfall, 92.6 mm. With 952.6 mm on average, the monsoon season saw the highest rainfall. Calculations revealed that the yearly rainfall averaged 1171.1 mm. Using Weibull’s method, the study was subsequently expanded to examine rainfall distribution at different recurrence intervals of 2, 5, 10, and 25 years. Rainfall and recurrence interval mathematical correlations were also developed. Further regression analysis revealed that short wave irrigation, wind direction, wind speed, pressure, relative humidity, and temperature all had a substantial influence on rainfall.
Originality and value: The results of the rainfall IDF curves can provide useful information to policymakers in making appropriate decisions in managing and minimizing floods in the study area.

Embedded machine learning-based road conditions and driving behavior monitoring
Car accident rates have increased in recent years, resulting in losses in human lives, properties, and other financial costs. An embedded machine learning-based system is developed to address this critical issue. The system can monitor road conditions, detect driving patterns, and identify aggressive driving behaviors. The system is based on neural networks trained on a comprehensive dataset of driving events, driving styles, and road conditions. The system effectively detects potential risks and helps mitigate the frequency and impact of accidents. The primary goal is to ensure the safety of drivers and vehicles. Collecting data involved gathering information on three key road events: normal street and normal drive, speed bumps, circular yellow speed bumps, and three aggressive driving actions: sudden start, sudden stop, and sudden entry. The gathered data is processed and analyzed using a machine learning system designed for limited power and memory devices. The developed system resulted in 91.9% accuracy, 93.6% precision, and 92% recall. The achieved inference time on an Arduino Nano 33 BLE Sense with a 32-bit CPU running at 64 MHz is 34 ms and requires 2.6 kB peak RAM and 139.9 kB program flash memory, making it suitable for resource-constrained embedded systems.
