The Second Great Awakening of 1780-1820 saw a major religious revival in the United States. Revivalism spread Christianity to the African American community, greatly increasing the number of Baptists and Methodists. Several new religious groups also emerged during this time, including Unitarians, Universalists, Mormons, Shakers, and Millerites. The revivals had a significant social impact by establishing new utopian communities and religious institutions across the country.
