This document outlines the requirements for a SEAS class current events assignment. Students must give three 3-5 minute presentations over the semester on current events related to Southeast Asia. The first presentation should be about politics or international relations, the second about pop culture or sports, and the third about the environment or history. Presentations must identify who, what, when, where, why, and how the event impacts Southeast Asia. They must include visuals and end with a thought-provoking discussion question. Students will present one at a time starting the second week. Each presentation is worth 15 points and will be graded on a rubric.

The North Carolina Museum of Art is widely recognized for its online education resources and distance learning opportunities, and over the past two years has collaborated with a state wide community of educators and national panel of experts to investigate the critical question: what is the unique role of art museums in supporting tomorrow’s learners? Michelle will share findings from this work through three different approaches to distance learning and discuss how these insights have influenced their education strategy.

SEAS Class Current Event Assignment Learning Targets: I can ● Identify an important current event to Southeast Asia using various news outlets ● Identify the important elements of the news story: ○ Who is the news story about? ○ What is the news story about? ○ When did the event occur? ○ Where did the event occur? ○ Why is this event important to the people of Southeast Asia? ○ How does this event impact the people of Southeast Asia, or the world? ● Create a quality presentation with appropriate visuals that helps me to share my current event with the class ● End the presentation by posing an open ended thought provoking question the whole class can discuss or journal (teacher discretion on whether we journal or discuss) Requirements: ● Each student will be responsible for three current event presentations over the course of the semester ○ The first current event should be about politics or international relations ○ The second current event should be about pop culture or sports ○ The third current event should be about the environment or history ● Each current event presentation should be three to five minutes long ● Each current event should have a google slideshow with appropriate visuals that enhance the audiences understanding of the current event ● Each current event presentation should end with a thought provoking question for the rest of the class to discuss our journal Calendar of presentations: We will have no presentation the first week Presentations will begin on the first day of the second week of class Only one student will present each day Grading of Current Event Assignment: This assignment will be placed in the assignments and quizzes category Each current event presentation will be worth 15 points Each presentation will be graded using the rubric below
