This document provides an overview of sources for conducting a local related literature review and local studies. It discusses that a literature review analyzes published work in a specific topic area, while related studies examine previous research conducted on the topic. Sources of local literature and studies mentioned include books, journals, theses/dissertations from Philippine universities. Specific databases are also listed that provide access to Philippine periodicals and publications. Examples of a local literature and local study are then briefly described to illustrate the concepts.

A review of articles or books written by
authorities giving their
opinions, experiences, theories or ideas of
what is good or bad, desirable or
undesirable within the problem area.

A review of published and unpublished
reports on actual researches done
previously, to know what have been done
in the field in relation to your topic. This
way, you will know what have been
explored, what needs to be explored, and
what is over explored. This will be your
guide in deciding which topic to pursue.

• Local Literature
These are local materials usually
printed and found in books, professional
journals and magazines, newspapers and
University publications published by the
different colleges and universities in the
Philippines.

5. Foreign
Literature:
• These are materials printed in other
countries with information related to the
current study and are found in
books, professional journals, magazines
and other publications.

6. Local
Studies:• These are studies or investigations
already completed to which the present
study is related. They are usually
unpublished materials such as
manuscripts, theses and dissertations
conducted in the Philippines and other
research publications.

7. Foreign
Studies:
• These are manuscripts, theses researches
and dissertations conducted in other
countries.

• Journals and magazines available in print / text form
– Consult the Index to Periodicals for articles available in
local and foreign titles; also the List of Periodical
Subscriptions at the Periodicals Unit.

10. In the old days, business was done using papers
and flat registers. The organization of these registers
was difficult and the storage of huge amounts of data
was a real problem. Also, the process of preparing a
report takes a lot of time. But when computers were
introduced into the business field, everything had
changed. Databases were used to store huge amounts
of data and organize them. Instead of spending many
hours (or maybe days) preparing a report, a query
consisting of a number of statements can perform the
job in some seconds. Although databases were very
useful, another problem has appeared. Companies and
corporations spread over wide distances. A single
company can have branches in all the governorates of a
country and maybe with some branches outside that
country. Data communicating and sharing was a
problem. This problem was solved using computer

STUDY

12. The Masbate Gold Project is located on the island of
Masbate 350 kilometers south of Manila. This remote location
is 70 kilometers via rough road from Masbate City with no
fixed line communication, Internet or cell network coverage.
The project required a reliable and efficient network for
I.T., voice, and data services that met FRC’s requirements
and able to progress from feasibility to production in a rugged
environment.
Imaginet has worked with FRC since their involvement
with the project began in 2004. Initial requirements were basic
remote communications for 5 users. It was crucial to FRC that
any systems implemented allowed for seamless expansion to
accommodate the predicted growth of the FRC's presence at
the mine site, the regional headquarters in Makati City, Manila
and Head office in Perth.
