COURSE SYNOPSIS
The Specialist Diploma in Career Counselling (SDCC)
aims to prepare participants with the relevant skills and
knowledge to provide career counselling. This programme
will equip participants with the essential counselling and
coaching competencies in the field of Career Counselling,
and will enable you to perform the role of a dedicated
Career Counselling Practitioner or to incorporate career
counselling into your current role.
The SDCC comprises of two (2) Post-Diploma Certificates
with three (3) modules each – each certificate will be
awarded upon successful completion of the three (3)
modules. Course participants who have completed both
certificates will be awarded the SDCC.
Upon completion of both certificates, participants will
acquire competencies to perform the following:
1. Recommend, interpret and use appropriate
psychometric tests to help clients evaluate their career
needs;
2. Provide comprehensive guidance that covers all career
stages from self-awareness to career pathways and
job placement;
3. Advise clients on career plans, including techniques in
job search, personal development, self-improvement,
identifying barriers, constraints; and,
4. Counsel and coach clients to achieve their career goals
holistically.
Specialist Diploma in Career Counselling
* WTS refers to Workfare Training Support Scheme.
** Singaporeans who are SME-sponsored are entitled to a 90% course fee subsidy.
+ Singapore Citizens (SC) pursuing their first Specialist/Advanced Diploma are entitled to 85% funding, while PRs will enjoy 60% MOE funding.
^ Course fees accurate as of 2015, subjected to review yearly.
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
The Minimum Entry Requirements (MER) for the Special-
ist Diploma in Career Counselling are as follows:
a. Relevant local polytechnic diploma or degree in any
discipline.
b. Applicants must have at least 2 years of relevant work-
ing experience.
Applicants who do not possess the above qualification
shall be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
TARGET AUDIENCE
Working adults who perform the role as dedicated career
counselling practitioners, and HR professionals, trainers,
career placement consultants, teachers, counsellors,
public servants who may be called upon to provide career
counselling in the course of their work.
CERTIFICATION
Participants will be awarded the Post-Diploma certificate
issued by Republic Polytechnic upon passing all modules
of the certificate. This includes meeting the minimum
attendance requirement of 50% per module and attaining
Grade D or better for all the modules.
Participants who have successfully completed both
Post-Diploma certificates will be awarded the Specialist
Diploma in Career Counselling by Republic Polytechnic.
The maximum period of candidature is 2 years i.e.
participants are to complete all the Post-Diploma
certificates and be awarded the Specialist Diploma within
two (2) years.
MODULE SYNOPSES
►1. Post-Diploma Certificate in Counselling
and Coaching
This Post-Diploma certificate introduces participants to a
strong foundation in career counselling practice; namely
the application of positive psychology and counselling
and coaching skills when providing career advice, as well
as knowledge in psychometric assessment to evaluate
clients’ needs in education, development and career
choice.
• Positive Psychology
The aim of this module is to introduce participants to the
topics related to positive life experiences, positive
emotions, positive character and positive institutions.
The first part of the module will focus on the theories in
positive psychology and the methods used to study
happiness, while the second half practical applications of
the science of positive psychology to life situations.
• Counselling and Coaching Skills
The aim of this module is as follow:
(1) Provide the foundation of counselling theories and
practical counselling skills to be applied in a variety of
situations and relationships in the counselling process
from the initial contact to rapport building, intervention
and termination;
(2) Provide the foundation on coaching processes, the
function of coaching for the individual and outcomes; and
(3) Plan, facilitate and manage group dynamics in group
coaching and assisting the groups in defining their
direction and developing solutions.
• Psychometric Assessment
The aim of this module is to introduce participants to the
basic principles of psychometrics in 3 different settings:
career, education, and development.
►2. Post-Diploma Certificate in Career
Development
This Post-Diploma certificate comprises 3 modules which
will enhance participants’ career counselling skills with
relevant manpower information and analysis. A
practicum is included to ensure that they have real-life
application of their skills and knowledge.
• Job and Labour Market Analysis
The aim of this module is equip participants with
knowledge on the demand aspect of job seeking,
occupational trends, learning and development
resources, labour market information and resources as
well as recent and emerging trends in employment.
This includes self-learning hours in the form of e-learning, assessments, case study analysis and revision required by the module.

• Career Development and Counselling
The aim of this module is to provide participants with
career development theories and practices to assist
clients in making choices about themselves and their
careers, incorporating their family needs and their styles
of interaction in the most meaningful way.
The module is designed to effectively bring together
competencies in career development knowledge and
career coaching skills.
• Career Counselling Project
The aim of this module is to provide participants with the
practical experience of career counselling. He or she will
be expected to provide the complete range of career
counselling services for an actual client and present
holistic solutions for the client’s needs, motivation,
life-stage demands, skills and competencies, values and
goals.

The first part of the module will focus on the theories in positive psychology and the methods used to study happiness, while the second half practical applications of the science of positive psychology to life situations. • Counselling and Coaching Skills The aim of this module is as follow: (1) Provide the foundation of counselling theories and practical counselling skills to be applied in a variety of situations and relationships in the counselling process from the initial contact to rapport building, intervention and termination; (2) Provide the foundation on coaching processes, the function of coaching for the individual and outcomes; and (3) Plan, facilitate and manage group dynamics in group coaching and assisting the groups in defining their direction and developing solutions. • Psychometric Assessment The aim of this module is to introduce participants to the basic principles of psychometrics in 3 different settings: career, education, and development. ►2. Post-Diploma Certificate in Career Development This Post-Diploma certificate comprises 3 modules which will enhance participants’ career counselling skills with relevant manpower information and analysis. A practicum is included to ensure that they have real-life application of their skills and knowledge. • Job and Labour Market Analysis The aim of this module is equip participants with knowledge on the demand aspect of job seeking, occupational trends, learning and development resources, labour market information and resources as well as recent and emerging trends in employment. The module is designed to effectively bring together competencies in career development knowledge and career coaching skills. • Career Counselling Project The aim of this module is to provide participants with the practical experience of career counselling. He or she will be expected to provide the complete range of career counselling services for an actual client and present holistic solutions for the client’s needs, motivation, life-stage demands, skills and competencies, values and goals.
