Introduction
For this assignment, I went to the museum with my professor. It was a wonderful experience especially since I have not been to a museum for a long time and she was already a member. The museum we chose to explore was The Philadelphia Museum of Art. Because she was a member, I only had to pay $10 for the entrance fee which was a nice discount. When we first walked in, I was overwhelmed because I was excited and anxious to see all the different works of art. The exhibits we saw were Modern Times, Art Splash and Face to Face.
Face to Face
As I start to think back, I did not take any pictures in the Face to Face exhibit. This exhibit had so many people, I couldn’t and would not dare take my phone out because I probably would have dropped and broken it. It’s interesting to have seen so many people since all that was in the room were the artist's self-portraits and brief descriptions. But that is what amazed me, seeing that people still appreciate others and what they’ve done is extremely motivating to me. In our World Cultures textbook, the majority of what was read was filled with cruelty and hate which still goes on today but seeing us as individuals overcome the hatred and honor those in our past is nothing less than a miracle I was able to witness in person. If I were thinking, I could have taken a photo of the exhibit to express the appreciation of today’s society looking back at yesterday’s heartaches and pain.
Art Splash
The second exhibit was called Art Splash. The museum stated that it was an “imaginative play for kids and their grown-ups” which was suitable due to the beautiful vibrant colors and even still-life paintings of light. The two pictures I chose were of Charles Sheeler and Joseph Stella. The Swan, which was created around 1924, was a painting that caught my attention as soon as I entered the room. The energy was warm, welcoming and fun as the colors made the Modern painting come alive. He gives people a sense of hope in the era of the Italian Renaissance which is what many of them needed. In Art Splash, I also admired the painting of Joseph Stella, The Cactus, because I enjoy seeing him show the reflection of the lights in this painting. What really catches my attention is how there are reflections, but it doesn’t show where the light is coming from. If you investigate the picture, the stand-up light isn’t plugged in! He’s really making you use your imagination to figure out where the light is coming from because it doesn’t show light coming from the lamp above the cactus either. These two artists are taking you to different places; Sheeler is taking you to a fairyland while Stella has you in a magician’s house. These two paintings are full of life, and I loved looking at them. (Philadelphia Art Museum, 2)

Sculptures in cranford
- 1. What is the message of this sculpture? In my opinion and view from looking at the sculpture I interpreted the message. I think the message is to show that Cranford is a multi-cultural school. That Cranford is one and unique. I thought these for my interpretations because the crane is part of the Cranford logo but the ball underneath it gives me more of a view of the sculpture. What is the name of the sculpture? There is no name for the actual sculpture but for us to recognise it we decided to name it Anniversary 30 years of Cranford. Where is the sculpture? The sculpture is at the Entrance to the school right in front of the car park. What materials are used in the sculpture? The materials in the sculpture are metal. These are metal cogs. It is in a marble verse and around the bottom is a mosaic going around the bottom for design, pattern and colour. What do I like about the sculpture? I like the sculpture because it is different and unique. I really like it because it uses different materials that would normally be used in a sculpture. I practically like the mosque which is at the bottom of the sculpture it makes the sculpture stand more out. What do I think could be improved about this sculpture? I thin the sculpture could be improved by changing the material that is used because the sculpture is outside the weather reacts with the material and as you can see from the picture the metal is rusting. Other: The sculpture is created because it was the anniversary of the school. 30 years.
- 2. What is the name of the sculpture? Again there was no name for the sculpture but from its appearance we are going to call it Octopus. What is the message in the sculpture? I am not to sure what the message is in this sculpture but if I had to take a guess at the message for this sculpture I would have to say it is some kind of metaphor. Or it could just be something basic for example to make something look more interesting or appealing. Where is the sculpture? The sculpture is in the sixth form study centre exactly on the first computer desk as you walk in the room. What materials are used? The materials used are recycled metal cogs. What do I like about the sculpture? The things I like about the sculpture are its different and I also like the way the sculpture looks like it’s moulded onto the table. What do I think could be changed about the sculpture? For this sculpture I think nothing could be changed. I think this because I already really like the sculpture and if the sculpture was mine I would not change it. What colours are used? There were no colours used only the natural colours of the material. So for the metal its silver.

What materials are used? The materials that are used to create this sculpture are recycled bikes cogs. What do I like about the sculpture? I am not over struck on this sculpture because I have a phobia on fish. What do I think should be improved on this sculpture? I think the sculpture can be improved by changing the fishes shape and expression on the face because it gives out the impression that it’s scared.
