My sincere thanks to the various authors‘ whom I consider as my first line of
impression in writing this book. I would also like to thank my close friends, my
family and my siblings who were helpful in writing this book.
My major inspiration for writing the book was to give back something to the
society which I felt is necessary. Everyone is born to win and has his life is
progressing he loses track of this and in due course due he is being made to
change directions which lead him to the unexpected outcomes for which he is not
ready.
That one such incident which I faced in my life was the turning point which
made me think
I remember this quote from one of the books I read:
“The Cave You Fear to Enter Holds All Your Treasure”

Preface
THE SECRET OF USING THIS BOOK IS TO CHANGE YOUR LIFE
This book has been designed not merely to be read but to be experienced.
You can acquire information from reading a book. But to "experience" you must
creatively respond to information. Acquiring information itself is passive.
Experiencing is active. When you "experience," something happens inside your
nervous system and your midbrain. New "engrams" and "neural" patterns are
recorded in the gray matter of your brain.
This book has been designed to force you literally to "experience." Tailor-made,
prefabricated "case histories" have been kept intentionally to a minimum.
Instead, you are asked to furnish your own "case histories" by exercising
imagination and memory.
I have not supplied "summaries" at the end of each chapter. Instead, you are
asked to jot down the most important points which appeal to you as key points
which should be remembered. You will digest the information in this book better
if you do your own analysis and summation of the chapters.
Finally, you will find throughout the book certain things to do and certain
practice exercises which you are asked to perform. These exercises are
straightforward and simple to perform; however, they must be done often if
you're to derive the most benefit from them.

Self-Image
“Your Self-Image is the Blue Print of our Success”
Discovery of the "SELF-IMAGE" represents
a break-through in psychology and the field of
creative personality. The significance of the
self-image has been recognized for more than
a decade. Yet there has been little written
about it. Curiously enough, this is not because
"self-image psychology" has not worked, but
because it has worked so amazingly well.
I was inspired by this book (New Faces—New Futures) which was published by
a plastic surgeon and which had a more or less collection of case histories where
plastic surgery, and particularly facial plastic surgery, had opened the door to a
new life for many people. That book told of the amazing changes that often occur
quite suddenly and dramatically in a person's personality when you change his
face. Some patients showed no change in personality after surgery. In most cases,
a person who had a conspicuously ugly face or some "freakish" feature corrected
by surgery, experienced an almost immediate (usually within 21 days) rise in
self-esteem, self-confidence. But in some cases, the patient continued to feel
inadequate and experienced feelings of inferiority. In short, these "failures"
continued to feel act and behave just as if they still had an ugly face.
5
This indicated to me that reconstruction of the physical image itself was not "the"
real key to changes in personality. There was something else which was usually
influenced by facial surgery, but sometimes not. When this "something else"
was reconstructed, the person himself changed. When this "something else"
was not reconstructed the person, himself remained the same, although his
physical features might be radically different.
THE FACE OF PERSONALITY
It was as if personality itself had a "face." This non-physical "face of
personality" seemed to be the real key to personality change. If it remained
scarred, distorted, "ugly," or inferior, the person himself acted out this role in his
behavior regardless of the changes in physical appearance. If this "face of
personality" could be reconstructed, if old emotional scars could be removed;
then the person himself changed, even without facial plastic surgery. Once I
began to explore this area, I found more and more phenomena which confirmed
the fact that the "self-image," the individual's mental and spiritual concept or
"picture" of himself, was the real key to personality and behavior.
THE SELF-IMAGE—THE REAL SECRET
Discovery of the self-image explains all the apparent discrepancies we have been
discussing. It is the common denominator—the determining factor in all our case
histories, the failures as well as the successes. The secret is this: To really "live,"
that is to find life reasonably satisfying, you must have an adequate and realistic
self-image that you can live with. You must find yourself acceptable to "you."
You must have a wholesome self-esteem. You must have a self that you can trust
6
and believe in. You must have a self that you are not ashamed to "be," and one
that you can feel free to express creatively, rather than to hide or cover up. You
must have a self that corresponds to reality so that you can function effectively in
a real world. You must know yourself—both your strengths and your weaknesses
and be honest with yourself concerning both. Your self-image must be a
reasonable approximation of "you," being neither more than you are nor less than
you are.
When this self-image is intact and secure, you feel "good." When it is threatened,
you feel anxious and insecure. When it is adequate and one that you can be
wholesomely proud of, you feel self-confident. You feel free to "be yourself" and
to express yourself. You function at your optimum. When it is an object of
shame, you attempt to hide it rather than express it. Creative expression is
blocked. You become hostile and hard to get along with.
If a scar on the face enhances the self-image, self-esteem and self-confidence are
increased. When a facial disfigurement is corrected by plastic surgery, dramatic
psychological changes result only if there is a corresponding correction of the
mutilated self-image.
YOU’RE PROGRAM FOR BETTER LIVING
In my opinion, psychology during the past 30 years has become far too
pessimistic regarding man and his potentiality for both change and greatness.
Since psychologists and psychiatrists deal with so-called "abnormal" people, the
literature is almost exclusively taken up with man's various abnormalities, his
7
tendencies toward self-destruction. Many people, I am afraid, have read so much
of this type of thing that they have come to regard such things as hatred, the
"destructive instinct," guilt, self-condemnation, and all the other negatives as
"normal human behavior." The average person feels awfully weak and impotent
when he thinks of the prospect of pitting his puny will against these negative
forces in human nature, in order to gain health and happiness. If this were a true
picture of human and the human condition, "self-improvement" would indeed be
a rather futile thing.
However, I believe, that you do not have to do the job alone. There is within each
one of us a "life instinct," which is forever working toward health, happiness, and
all that makes for more life for the individual. This "life instinct" works for you
through what I call the Creative Mechanism, or when used correctly the "Success
Mechanism" built into each human being.
Following are the symptoms of low Self-image
jealousy rejecting luxury unnecessarily
negative talk about ourselves failure to give affection
experiencing guilt failure to accept and enjoy affection
failure to give compliments criticizing others
inability to accept compliments comparing ourselves with others
not taking our own needs into account
constant poor health, which is the
drive for attention at any cost
not asking for what we want
8
The solution to this?
Give compliments. Accept compliments. Always speak well of yourself and
others. Praise yourself. Separate your current behavior from who you are as a
person. Treat your body well. Let others know how you want to be treated, and
remember to treat them that way as well. Get around good people. Pamper
yourself. And paint a picture of yourself in your mind as you want to be. You
will gravitate toward that mental image.
Once you are on the road to becoming on the outside who you always were on
the inside, you can begin to love others effectively. As you give out compliments
and feed the hunger of other people, you will begin to receive their acceptance,
approval, and appreciation – the very things you desire for yourself.
PRACTICE EXERCISE NO. 1
Get a New Mental Picture of Yourself
The unhappy, failure-type personality cannot
develop a new self-image by pure willpower, or by
arbitrarily deciding to. There must be some grounds,
some justification, some reason for deciding that the
old picture of self is in error and that a new picture
is appropriate. You cannot merely imagine a new
self-image; unless you feel that it is based upon
truth. Experience has shown that when a person
9
does change his self-image, he has the feeling that for one reason or another, he
"sees," or realizes the truth about himself.
The truth in this chapter can set you free of an old inadequate self-image, if you
read it often, think intently about the implications, and "hammer home" its truths
to yourself.
Science has now confirmed what philosophers, mystics, and other intuitive
people have long declared: every human being has been literally "engineered for
success" by his Creator. Every human being has access to a power greater than
himself. This means "YOU."As Emerson has said, "There are no great and no
small."
If you were engineered for success and happiness, then the old picture of yourself
as unworthy of happiness, of a person who was "meant" to fail, must be in error.
Read this chapter through at least three times per week for the first 21 days.
Study it and digest it Look for examples in your experiences, and the experiences
of your friends, which illustrate the creative mechanism in action.
Memorize the following basic principles by which your success mechanism
operates. You do not need to be an electronic engineer, or a physicist, to operate
your own servo-mechanism, any more than you have to be able to engineer an
automobile in order to drive one or become an electrical engineer in order to turn
on the light in your room. You do need to be familiar with the following;
10
however, because having memorized them, they will throw "new light" on what
is to follow:
1. Your built-in success mechanism must have a goal or "target." This goal, or
target, must be conceived of as "already in existence—now" either in actual
or potential form. It operates by either
a) steering you to a goal already in existence or by
b) "discovering" something already in existence.
2. The automatic mechanism is teleological, that is, operates, or must be
oriented to "end results," goals. Do not be discouraged because of the "means
whereby" may not be apparent. It is the function of the automatic mechanism
to supply the "means whereby" when you supply the goal. Think in terms of
the end result, and the means whereby will often take care of themselves.
3. Do not be afraid of making mistakes, or of temporary failures. All servo-
mechanisms achieve a goal by negative feedback, or by going forward,
making mistakes, and immediately correcting course.
4. Skill learning of any kind is accomplished by trial and error, mentally
correcting aim after an error, until a "successful" motion, movement or
performance has been achieved. After that, further learning, and continued
success are accomplished by forgetting the past 'errors, and remembering the
successful response, so that it can be "imitated."
11
5. You must learn to trust your creative mechanism to do its work and not "jam
it" by becoming too concerned or too anxious as to whether it will work or
not, or by attempting to force it by too much conscious effort. You must "let
it" work, rather than "make it" work. This trust is necessary because your
creative mechanism operates below the level of consciousness, and you
cannot "know" what is going on beneath the surface. Moreover, its nature is
to operate spontaneously according to present need. Therefore, you have no
guarantees in advance. It comes into operation as you act and as you place a
demand upon it by your actions. You must not wait to act until you have
proof—you must act as if it is there, and it will come through. "Do the thing
and you will have the power," said Emerson.
6. When nothing seems to be working even after ensuring all the above five
steps which indicate ―Stress‖ and this is an indication that you have deviated
your defined path. At this don‘t think of anything just accept this truth and
realign yourself to the Goal and success is inevitable.
12
The Goal
“A Goal without a Plan is Just a Wish”
I believe that the Goal is about
Science and education. I believe that
these two words have been abused to
the extent that their original meanings
have been lost in a fog of too much
respect and mystery. Science for me,
and for the vast majority or respectable
scientist, is not about the secrets of
nature or even about truths. Science is
simply the method we use to try and
postulate a minimum set assumption
that can explain, through a straightforward logical derivation, the existence of
many phenomena of nature.
Goal setting is everywhere in our world. We set goals for our careers, our health,
and our lives in general. It seems modern society is always encouraging us to
think about the next milestone. However, what we don't think about enough is
the science and strategy of how to accomplish your goals.
Whether you're setting personal goals or professional goals, this chapter will
explain everything you need to know.
13
Most goal setting exercises start with an overpaid consultant standing by a
whiteboard and asking something like, ―What does success look like to you? In
very specific terms, what do you want to achieve?‖
If we are serious about achieving our goals, however, we should start with a
much different question. Rather than considering what kind of success we want,
we should ask, ―What kind of pain do I want?‖
This is a strategy I learned from one of my reading of the author, Mark Manson.
What Mark has realized is that having a goal is the easy part. Who wouldn't want
to write a best-selling book or lose weight or earn more money? Everybody
wants to achieve these goals.
The real challenge is not determining if you want the result, but if you are willing
to accept the sacrifices required to achieve your goal. Do you want the lifestyle
that comes with your quest? Do you want the boring and ugly process that comes
before the exciting and glamorous outcome?
It's easy to sit around and think what we could do or what we'd like to do. It is an
entirely different thing to accept the tradeoffs that come with our goals.
Everybody wants a gold medal. Few people want to train like an Olympian.
This brings us to our first key insight. Goal setting is not only about choosing the
rewards you want to enjoy, but also the costs you are willing to pay.
14
RUDDERS AND OARS
Imagine a small row boat. Your goals are like the rudder on the boat. They set
the direction and determine where you go. If you commit to one goal, then the
rudder stays put and you continue moving forward. If you flip-flop between
goals, then the rudder moves all around and it is easy to find yourself rowing in
circles.
However, there is another part of the boat that is even more important than the
rudder: The oars. If the rudder is your goal, then the oars are your process for
achieving it. While the rudder determines your direction, it is the oars that
determine your progress.
This metaphor of the rudder and the oars helps clarify the difference between
systems and goals. It is an important distinction that shows up everywhere in life.
 If you‘re a coach, your goal is to win a championship. Your system is what
your team does at practice each day.
 If you‘re a writer, your goal is to write a book. Your system is the writing
schedule that you follow each week.
 If you‘re a runner, your goal is to run a marathon. Your system is your
training schedule for the month.
 If you‘re an entrepreneur, your goal is to build a million-dollar business. Your
system is your sales and marketing process.
15
Goals are useful for setting the direction. Systems are great for actually making
progress. In fact, the primary benefit of having a goal is that it tells you what sort
of system you need to put in place. However, the system itself is what actually
achieved the results.
This brings us to our second key insight. Goals determine your direction.
Systems determine your progress. You'll never get anywhere just by holding the
rudder. You have to row.
HOW TO SET GOALS YOU'LL ACTUALLY FOLLOW
Alright, now that we've discussed the tradeoffs and systems that come with goals,
let's talk about how to set goals you'll actually follow.
There are three basic strategies I like to use when goal setting. Let's talk about
each one now.
1. Ruthlessly Eliminate Your Goals
Psychologists have a concept they refer to as ―goal competition.‖
Goal competition says that one of the greatest barriers to achieving your goals is
the other goals you have. In other words, your goals are competing with one
another for your time and attention. Whenever you chase a new goal, you have to
pull focus and energy from your other pursuits. This is basically The Four
16
Burners Theory in action. When you turn one burner up, you have to turn others
down.
Now, there is good news. One of the fastest ways to make progress on your goals
is to simply press pause on less important things and focus on one goal at a time.
Sometimes you just need to reorganize your priorities a little bit and suddenly
progress comes much more quickly because you are now fully committed to a
goal that was only getting moderate attention previously.
This is an important insight. Typically, when we fail to reach our goals, we think
something was wrong with our goal or our approach. Experts tell us, ―You need
to think bigger! Pick a dream that is so big it will motivate you every day.‖ Or
we tell ourselves, ―If only I had more hours in the day!‖
These excuses cloud the bigger issue. What often looks like a problem of goal
setting is actually a problem of goal selection. What we really need is not bigger
goals, but better focus. You need to choose one thing and ruthlessly eliminate
everything else. In the words of Seth Godin, ―You don't need more time, you just
need to decide.‖
Our lives are like rose bushes. As a rose bush grows, it creates more buds than it
can sustain. If you talk to an experienced gardener, they will tell you that rose
bushes need to be pruned to bring out the best in both their appearance and their
performance. In other words, if you want a rose bush to thrive, then you need to
cut away some of the good buds so the great ones can fully blossom.
17
Our goals are similar. They need to be consistently pruned and trimmed down.
It‘s natural for new goals to come into our lives and to get excited about new
opportunities—just like it‘s natural for a rose bush to add new buds. If we can
muster the courage to prune away a few of our goals, then we create the space we
need for the remaining goals to fully blossom. Full growth and optimal living
require pruning.
I've have read about a variety of strategies for getting your priorities in order and
focusing on one thing at a time, including:
 The Ivy Lee Method
 Warren Buffett's 25-5 Rule
 The Eisenhower Box
 The 20 Slot Rule
 The Myth of Multitasking
Take a look at those strategies and try out one that resonates with you.
2. Stack Your Goals
Research has shown that you are 2x to 3x more likely to stick to your goals if
you make a specific plan for when, where, and how you will perform the
behavior. For example, in one study scientists asked people to fill out this
sentence: ―During the next week, I will partake in at least 20 minutes of vigorous
exercise on [DAY] at [TIME OF DAY] at/in [PLACE].‖
18
Researchers found that people who filled out this sentence were 2x to 3x more
likely to actually exercise compared to a control group who did not make plans
for their future behavior. Psychologists call these specific plans ―implementation
intentions‖ because they state when, where, and how you intend to implement a
particular behavior. This finding has been repeated across hundreds of studies
and has been found to increase the odds that people will start exercising, begin
recycling, stick with studying, and even stop smoking.
One of my favorite ways to utilize this finding is a strategy I call habit stacking.
To use habit stacking, just fill out this sentence:
After/Before [CURRENT HABIT], I will [NEW HABIT].
Here are some examples:
 Meditation: After I brew my morning coffee, I will meditate for one minute.
 Pushups: Before I take my morning shower, I will do 10 pushups.
 Flossing: After I set my toothbrush down, I will floss my teeth.
 Gratitude: Before I eat dinner, I will say one thing I am grateful for that day.
 Networking: After I return from my lunch break, I will send one email to
someone I want to meet.
Habit stacking works well because you not only create a specific plan for when
and where you will implement your goals, but also link your new goals to
something you are already doing each day. You can read more on how to stack
habits and set triggers for your goals in my popular guide, Transform Your
Habits.
19
I find this to be a helpful way to bridge the gap between goals and systems. Our
goals tell us what we want to achieve while our systems are the process we
follow each day. Habit stacking and implementation intentions help us move
from the goal in our heads to the specific process that will make it a reality.
3. Set an Upper Bound
Whenever we set goals, we almost always focus on the lower bound. That is, we
think about the minimum threshold we want to hit. The implicit assumption is,
―Hey if you can do more than the minimum, go for it.‖
 An individual might say, ―I want to lose at least 5 pounds this month.‖
 An entrepreneur might say, ―I want to make at least 10 sales calls today.‖
 An artist might say, ―I want to write at least 500 words today.‖
 A basketball player might say, ―I want to make at least 50 free throws today.‖
But what would it look like if we added an upper bound to our goals and
behaviors?
 ―I want to lose at least 5 pounds this month, but not more than 10.‖
 ―I want to make at least 10 sales calls today, but not more than 20.‖
 ―I want to write at least 500 words today, but not more than 1,500.‖
 ―I want to make at least 50 free throws today, but not more than 100.‖
20
In many areas of life, there is a
magical zone of long-term growth.
You want to push hard enough to
make progress, but not so much that
it is unsustainable. This is where
setting an upper limit can be useful.
Upper limits make it easier for you
to sustain your progress and
continue showing up.
This is especially critical in the beginning. Whenever you set a new goal and
begin working toward it, the single most important thing is showing up. In the
beginning, showing up is even more important than succeeding because if you
don't build the habit of showing up, then you'll never have anything to improve
in the future.
HOW TO ACHIEVE YOUR GOALS CONSISTENTLY
Effective goal setting requires consideration of the system that surrounds you.
Too often, we set the right goals inside the wrong system. If you're fighting your
system each day to make progress, then it's going to be really hard to make
consistent progress.
There are all kinds of hidden forces that make our goals easier or harder to
achieve. You need to align your environment with your ambitions if you wish to
21
make progress for the long-run. Let's discuss some practical strategies for doing
just that.
How to Align Your Environment With Your Goals
Although most of us have the freedom to make a wide range of choices at any
given moment, we often make decisions based on the environment we find
ourselves in. For example, if I wanted to do so, I could drink a beer as I write this
guide. However, I am currently sitting at my desk with a glass of water next to
me. There are no beers in sight. Although I possess the capability to get up, walk
to my car, drive to the store, and buy a beer, I probably won‘t because I am
surrounded by easier alternatives. In this case, taking a sip of water is the default
decision, the easy decision.
Similarly, many of the decisions we make in our professional and personal lives
are shaped by the options that surround us.
 If you sleep with your phone next to your bed, then checking social media and
email as soon as you wake up is likely to be the default decision.
 If you walk into your living room and your couches and chairs all face the
television, then watching television is likely to be the default decision.
 If you keep alcohol in your kitchen, then drinking consistently is more likely
to be the default decision.
Of course, defaults can be positive as well.
22
 If you keep a dumbbell next to your desk at work, then pumping out some
quick curls is more likely to be the default decision.
 If you keep a water bottle with you throughout the day, then drinking water
rather than soda is more likely to be the default decision.
 If you place floss in a visible location (like next to your toothbrush), then
flossing is more likely to be the default decision.
Scientists refer to the impact that environmental defaults can have on our
decision making as choice architecture. This has an important impact when it
comes to achieving goals. Whether or not you achieve your goals in the long-
term has a lot to do with what types of influences surround you in the short-term.
It's very hard to stick with positive habits in a negative environment.
Here are a few strategies I have found useful when trying to design better default
decisions into my life:
Simplicity. It is hard to focus on the signal when you‘re constantly surrounded
by noise. It is more difficult to eat healthy when your kitchen is filled with junk
food. It is more difficult to focus on reading a blog post when you have 10 tabs
open in your browser. It is more difficult to accomplish your most important task
when you fall into the myth of multitasking. When in doubt, eliminate options.
Visual Cues. In the supermarket, placing items on shelves at eye level makes
them more visual and more likely to be purchased. Outside of the supermarket,
you can use visual cues like the Paper Clip Method or the Seinfeld Strategy to
create an environment that visually nudges your actions in the right direction.
23
Opt-Out vs. Opt-In. There is a famous organ donation study that revealed how
multiple European countries skyrocketed their organ donation rates: they
required citizens to opt-out of donating rather than opt-in to donating. You can
do something similar in your life by opting your future self into better habits
ahead of time. For example, you could schedule your yoga session for next week
while you are feeling motivated today. When your workout rolls around, you
have to justify opting out rather than motivating yourself to opt-in.
How to Measure Your Goals
Another key to making long-term progress on your goals is measurement. The
human mind loves to receive feedback. One of the most motivating things we
can experience is evidence of our progress. This is why measurement is so
critical for effective goal setting. By measuring your results, you get insight on
whether or not you are making progress.
The things we measure are the things we improve. It is only through numbers
and clear tracking that we have any idea if we are getting better or worse. Here
are a few of the measurable goals I've implemented:
 When I measured how many pushups I did, I got stronger.
 When I tracked my reading habit of 20 pages per day, I read more books.
 When I recorded my values, I began living with more integrity.
24
The trick is to realize that counting, measuring, and tracking are not about the
result. Measure to discover, to find out, and to understand. Measure to see if you
are showing up. Measure to see if you're actually spending time on the things that
are important to you.
25
Believe & Achieve
"If my mind can Conceive it, My heart can believe it; I know I can achieve it!"
We are a creation of our beliefs. Success
in any area of life is a direct result of your
belief system. To change anything in life all
one needs to do is change their beliefs. Your
beliefs will become a reality by applying the
four laws of success.
● The Law Of Belief
● The Law Of Expectation
● The Law Of Imagination
● The Law Of Attraction
Is there some force, or factor, or power, or science – call it what you will – which
a few people understand and use to overcome their difficulties and achieve
outstanding success? I firmly believe that there is, and it is my purpose in this
book to try to explain it so that you can use it if you desire.
Every human being wants success. Everybody wants the. best this life can
deliver. Nobody enjoys crawling, living in mediocrity. No one likes feeling
second-class and feeling forced to go that way. Some of the most practical
26
success-building wisdom is found in that biblical quotation stating that faith can
move mountains.
Believe, really believe, you can move a mountain, and you can. Not many people
believe that they can move mountains. So, as a result, not many people do. On
some occasion, you've probably heard someone say something like "its nonsense
to think you can make a mountain move away just by saying 'Mountain, move
away.' It's simply impossible."
People who think this way have belief confused with wishful thinking. And true
enough, you can't wish away a mountain. You can't wish yourself into an
executive suite. Nor can you wish yourself into a five-bedroom, three bath house
or the high-income brackets. You can't wish yourself into a position of leadership.
But you can move a mountain with belief. You can win success by believing you
can succeed.
There is nothing magical or mystical about the power of belief.
Belief works this way. Belief, the 'I‘m-positive-I-can" attitude, generates the
power, skill, and energy needed to do. When you believe I-can-do-it, the how-to-
do-it develops.
The how-to-do-it always comes to the person who believes he can do it.
I am sharing this example from one of the books I read during writing this book.
27
A young woman I'm acquainted with decided two years ago that she was going
to establish a sales agency to sell mobile homes. She was advised by many that
she shouldn't and couldn't do it.
She had less than $3,000 in savings and was advised that the minimum capital
investment required was many times that.
"Look how competitive it is," she was advised. "And besides, what practical
experience have you had in selling mobile homes, let alone managing a
business?" her advisors asked.
But this young lady had belief in herself and her ability to succeed. She quickly
admitted that she lacked capital, that the business was very competitive, and that
she lacked experience. '
"But," she said, "all the evidence I can gather shows that the mobile home
industry is going to expand. On top of that, I've studied my competition. I know I
can do a better job of merchandising trailers than anybody else in this town. I
expect to make some mistakes, but I'm going to be on top in a hurry."
And she was. She had little trouble getting capital. Her absolutely unquestioned
belief that she could succeed with this business won her the confidence of two
investors. And armed with complete belief, she did the "impossible" -she got a
trailer manufacturer to advance her a limited inventory with no money down.
28
Last year she sold over $1,000,000 worth of trailers.
"Next year," she says, "I expect to gross over $2,000,000."
Belief, strong belief, triggers the mind to figure ways and means and how-to.
And believing you can succeed makes others place confidence in you.
HOW TO DEVELOP THE POWER OF BELIEF
Here are the three guides to acquiring and strengthening the power of belief:
1. Think success, don't think failure. At work, in your home, substitute success
thinking for failure thinking. When you face a difficult situation, think, ''I'll win,"
not 'I Will probably lose." When you compete with someone else, think, "I'm
equal to the best," not "I'm outclassed." When an opportunity appears, think "I
can do it," never "I can't." Let the master thought "I will succeed" dominate your
thinking process. Thinking success conditions your mind to create plans that
produce success. Thinking failure does the exact opposite. Failure thinking
conditions the mind to think other thoughts that produce failure.
2. Remind yourself regularly that you are better than you think you are.
Successful people are not supermen. Success does not require a super intellect.
Nor is there anything mystical about success. And success isn't based on luck.
Successful people are just ordinary folks who have developed a belief in
themselves and what they do. Never-yes, never sell yourself short.
3. Believe Big. The size of your success is determined by the size of your belief.
Think little goals and expect little achievements. Think big goals and win big
29
success. Remember this, too! Big ideas and big plans are often easier--certainly
no more difficult--than small ideas and small plans.
Mr. Ralph J. Cordiner, chairman of the board of the General Electric Company,
said this to a leadership conference: "We need from every man who aspires to
leadership for himself and his company a determination to undertake a personal
program of self-development. Nobody is going to order a man to develop ...
Whether a man lags behind or moves ahead in his specialty is a matter of his own
personal application. This is something which takes time, work, and sacrifice.
Nobody can do it for you."
Mr. Cordiner's advice is sound and practical. Live it. Persons who reach the top
rungs in business management, selling, engineering, religious work, writing,
acting, and in every other pursuit get there by following conscientiously and
continuously a plan for self-development and growth.
Any training program and that's exactly what this book, is must do three things.
It must provide content, the what-to-do. Second, it must supply a method, the
how-to-do-it. And third, it must meet the acid test; that is, get results.
The what of your personal training program for success is built on the attitudes
and techniques of successful people? How do they manage themselves? How?
Do they overcome obstacles? How do they earn the respect of others? What sets
them apart from the ordinary? How do they think?
30
The how. of your plan for development and growth is a series of concrete guides
for action. These are found in each chapter. These guides work. Apply them and
see for yourself.
What about the most important part of training: results? Wrapped up briefly,
conscientious application of the program presented here will bring you success
and on a scale that may now look impossible. Broken down into its components,
your personal training program for success will bring you a series of rewards: the
reward of deeper respect from your family, the reward of admiration from your
friends and associates, the reward of feeling useful, of being someone, of having
status, the reward of increased income and a higher standard of living.
Your training is self-administered. There will be no one standing over your
shoulder telling you what to do and how to do it. This book will be your guide,
but only you can understand yourself. Only you can command yourself to apply
this training. Only you can evaluate your progress. Only you can bring about
corrective action should you slip a little? In short, you are going to train yourself
to achieve bigger and bigger success.
You already have a fully equipped laboratory in which you can work and study.
Your laboratory is' all around you. Your laboratory consists of human beings.
This laboratory supplies you with every possible example of human action. And
there is no limit to what you can learn once you see yourself as a scientist in your
own lab. What's more, there is nothing to buy. There is no rent to pay. There are
no fees of any kind. You can use this laboratory as much as you like for free.
31
As director of your own laboratory. you will want to do what every scientist
does: observe and experiment.
Isn't it surprising to you that most people understand so little about why people
act as they do even though they are surrounded by people all their lives? Most
people are not trained, observers. One important purpose of this book is to help
you train yourself to observe, to develop deep insight into human action. You'll
want to ask yourself questions like 'Why is John so successful and Tom just
getting by?" "Why do some people have many friends and other people have
only a few friends?" "Why will people gladly accept what one person tells them
but ignore another person who tells them the same thing?"
Once trained, you will learn valuable lessons just through the very simple
process of observing.
Here are two special suggestions to help you make yourself a trained observer.
Select for special study the most successful and the most unsuccessful person
you know; Then, as the book unfolds, observe how closely your successful friend
adheres to the success principles. Notice also how studying the two extremes will
help you see the unmistakable wisdom of following the truths outlined in this
book.
Each contact you make with another person gives you a chance to see success
development principles at work. Your objective is to make successful action
habitual. The more we practice, the. sooner it becomes second nature to act in the
desired way.
32
Most of us have friends who grow things for a hobby. And we've all heard them
say something like "It's exciting to watch those plants grow; Just look how they
respond to plant food and water. See how much bigger they are today than they
were last week."
To be sure, it is thrilling to watch what can happen when men cooperate carefully
with nature. But it is not one-tenth as fascinating as watching yourself respond to
your own carefully administered thought management program. It's fun to feel
yourself growing more confident, more effective, and more successful day by
day, month by month. Nothing absolutely nothing in this life gives you more
satisfaction than allowing you're on the road to success and achievement. And
nothing stands as a bigger challenge than making the most of yourself,
33
Thinking Big
“Not many people believe that they can move mountains...”
Start now, right now, to discover
how to make your thinking make
magic for you. Start out with this
thought of the great philosopher
Disraeli: "Life is too short to be little."
Where success is concerned, people
are not measured in inches or pounds
or college degrees, or family
background; they are measured by the size of their thinking. How big we think
determines the size of our accomplishments. Now let's see how we can enlarge
our thinking.
Ever ask yourself, "What is my greatest weakness?" Probably the greatest human
weakness is self-deprecation that is, selling oneself short. Self-deprecation shows
through in countless ways. John sees a job advertisement in the paper; it's exactly
what he would like. But he does nothing about it because he thinks, ―I‘ m not
good enough for that job, so why bother?" or Jim wants a date with Joan, but he
doesn't call her because he thinks he wouldn't rate with her.
34
Philosophers for thousands of years have issued good advice: Know thyself. But
most people, it seems, interprets this suggestion to mean Know only thy negative
self. Most self-evaluation consists of making long mental lists of one's faults,
shortcomings, inadequacies.
It's well to know our inabilities, for this shows us areas in which we can improve.
But if we know only our negative characteristics, ·we are in a mess. Our value is
small.
Here is an exercise to help you measure your true size. This technique has been
used in training programs for executives and sales personnel.
It works.
1. Determine your five chief assets. Invite some objective friend to help possibly
your wife, your superior, a professor some intelligent person who will give
you an honest opinion. (Examples of assets frequently listed are education,
experience, technical skills, appearance, well-adjusted home life, attitudes,
personality, and initiative.)
2. Next, under each asset, write the names of three persons you know who have
achieved large success but who do not have this asset to as great a degree as
you.
When you've completed this exercise, you will find you outrank many successful
people on at least one asset.
35
There is only one conclusion you can honestly reach: You're bigger than you
think. So, fit your thinking to your true size. Think as big as you really are!
Never, never, never sell yourself short!
Here is something very basic: We do not think in words and phrases. We think
only in pictures and/or images. Words are the raw materials of thought. When
spoken or read, that amazing instrument, the mind, automatically converts words
and phrases into mind pictures. Each word, each phrase creates a slightly
different mind picture. If someone tells you, 'Jim bought a new split-level," you
see one picture. But if you're told, 'Jim bought a new ranch house," you see
another picture. The mind pictures we see are modified by the kinds of words we
use to name things and describe things.
Look at it this way. When you speak or write, you are, in a sense, a projector
showing movies in the minds of others. And the pictures you create determine
how you and others react.
Suppose you tell a group of people, "I'm sorry to report we've failed." What do
these people see? They see defeat and all the disappointment and grief the word
"failed" conveys. Now suppose you said instead, 'Here's a new approach that I
think will work." They would feel encouraged, ready to try again.
FOUR WAYS TO DEVELOP THE BIG THINKER'S VOCABULARY
Here are four ways to help you develop a big thinker's vocabulary.
36
1. Use big, positive, cheerful words and phrases to describe how you feel. When
someone asks, "How do you feel today?" and you respond with an ''I'm tired
(I have a headache, I wish it were Saturday, I don't feel so good),"you actually
make yourself feel worse. Practice this: it's a very simple point, but it has
tremendous power. Every time someone asks you, "How are you)" or "How
are you feeling today?" respond with a 'Just wonderful! thanks, and you)" or
say "Great" or "Fine." Say you feel wonderful at every possible opportunity,
and you will begin to feel wonderful and bigger, too. Become known as a
person who always feels ·great. It wins friends.
2. Use bright, cheerful, favorable words and phrases to describe other people.
Make it a rule to have a big, positive word for all your .friends and associates.
When you and someone else are discussing an absent third party, be sure you
compliment him with big words and phrases like "He's really a fine fellow;"
"They tell me he's working out wonderfully well." Be extremely careful to
avoid the petty cut-him-down language. Sooner or later third parties hear
what's been said, and then such talk only cuts you down.
3. Use positive language to encourage others. Compliment people personally at
every opportunity, everyone you know craves praise. Have a special good
word for your wife or husband every day. Notice and compliment the people
who work with you. Praise, sincerely administered, is a success tool. Use it!
Use it again and again and again. Compliment people on their appearance,
their work; their achievements, their families.
37
4. Use positive words to outline plans to others. When people hear something
like this: "Here is some good news. We ·face a genuine opportunity ... ―their
minds start to sparkle. But when they hear something like "Whether we like it
or not, we've got a job to do," the mud movie is dull and boring, and they
react accordingly. Promise victory and watch eyes light up. Promise victory
and win support. Build castles, don't dig graves!
SEE WHAT CAN BE, NOT JUST WHAT IS
Big thinkers train themselves to see not just what is but what can be. Here are is
an example to illustrate this point.
1. What gives real estate value? A highly successful Realtor who specializes in
rural property shows what can be done if we train ourselves to see something
where little or nothing presently exists.
"Most of the rural property around here," my friend began, "is run-down and
not very attractive. I'm successful because I don't try to sell my prospects a
farm as it is.
"I develop my entire sales plan around what the farm can be. Simply telling
the prospect, 'The farm has XX acres of bottom land and xx acres of woods
and is XX miles from town doesn't stir him up and make him want to, buy it.
But when you show him a concrete plan for doing something with the farm,
he's just about sold. Here, let me show you what I mean."
38
He opened his briefcase and pulled out a file. "This farm," he said, "is a new
listing with us. It's like a lot of them. It's forty-three miles from the center of
the metropolitan area, the house is run-down, and the place hasn't been
farmed in five years. Now, here's what I've done. I spent two full days on the
place last week, just studying it. I walked over the place several times. I
looked at neighboring farms. I studied the location of the farm with respect to
existing and planned highways. I asked myself, 'What's this farm good for?'
"I came up with three possibilities. Here they are." He showed them to me.
Each plan was neatly typed and looked quite comprehensive. One plan
suggested converting the farm into a riding stable. The plan showed why the
idea was sound: a growing city, more love for the outdoors, more money for
recreation, good roads. 'The plan also showed how the farm could support a
sizable number of horses so that the revenue from the rides would be largely
clear. The whole riding stable idea was very thorough, very convincing. The
plan was so clear and convincing; I could "see" a dozen couples riding
horseback through the trees.
In similar fashion, this enterprising salesman developed a second thorough
plan for a tree farm and a third plan for a combination tree and poultry farm.
"Now when I talk about my prospects, I won't have to convince them that the
farm is a good buy as it is. I help them to see a picture of the farm changed
into a moneymaking proposition.
39
"Besides selling more farms and selling them faster, my method of selling the
property for what it can pay off in another way:] can sell a farm at a higher
price than my competitors. People naturally pay more for acreage and an idea
than they do for just acreage. Because of this, more people want to list their
farms with me and my commission on each sale is larger.
The moral is this: Look at things not as they are, but as they can be.
Visualization adds value to everything. A big thinker always visualizes what
can be done in the future. He isn't stuck with the present.
Here is how you can develop your power to see what can be, not just what is. I
call these the "practice adding value" exercises.
1. Practice adding value to things. Remember the real estate example. Ask
yourself, "What can I do to 'add value' to this room or this house or this
business?" Look for ideas to make things worth more. A thing whether it is a
vacant lot, a house, or a business has value in proportion to the ideas for using
it.
2. Practice adding value to people. As you move higher and higher in the world
of success, more and more of your job becomes "people development." Ask,
"What can I do to 'add value' to my subordinates? What can I do to help them
to become more effective?" Remember, to bring out the best in a person, you
must first visualize his best.
40
3. Practice adding value to yourself. Conduct a daily interview with yourself.
Ask, "What can I do to make myself more valuable today?" Visualize
yourself not as you are but as you can be. Then specific ways for attaining
your potential value will suggest themselves. Just try and see.
Many, many potentially powerful people let petty, small, insignificant things
block their way to achievement. Let's look at an example.
WHAT DOES IT TAKE 10 MAKE A GOOD SPEECH?
Just about everyone wishes he had the "ability" to do a first-class job of speaking
in public. But most people don't get their wish. Most folks are lousy public
speakers.
Why? The reason is simple: most people concentrate on the small, trivial things
of speaking at the expense of the big, important things. In preparing to give a talk,
most people give themselves a host of mental instructions, like 'I've got to
remember to stand straight," "Don't move around and don't use your hands,
"Don't let the audience see you use your notes," "Remember, don't make
mistakes in grammar, especially don't say 'for he and I,' say 'for him and me,''
"Be sure your tie is straight," "Speak loud, but not too loud," and so on and on.
Now, what happens when the speaker gets up to speak? He's scared because he's
given himself a terrific list of things not to do. He gets confused in his talk and
finds himself silently asking, "Have I made a mistake?" He is, in brief, a flop.
He's a flop because he concentrated on the petty, trivial, relatively unimportant
41
qualities of a good speaker and failed to concentrate on the big things that make a
good speaker: knowledge of what he's going to talk about and an intense desire
to tell it to other people.
The real test of a speaker does not do he stand straight or did he make any
mistakes in grammar, but rather did the audience get the points he wanted to put
across. Most of our top speakers have petty defects; some of them even have
unpleasant voices. Some of the most sought-after speakers in America would
flunk a speech course taught by the old negative, "don't do this and don't do that,"
method.
Yet all these successful public speakers have one thing in common: They have
something to say and they feel a bunting desire for other people to hear it.
Don't let concern with trivia keep you from speaking successfully in public.
Practice these three procedures to help yourself think about trivialities:
1. Keep your eyes focused on the big objective. Many times, we're like the
salesman who, failing to make the sale, reports to his manager, "Yes, but I
sure convinced the customer he was wrong." In selling, the big objective is
winning sales, not arguments.
In marriage, the big objective is peace, happiness, tranquility-not winning
quarrels or saying "I could have told you so,"
42
In working with employees, the big objective is developing their full
potential; not making issues out of their minor errors.
In living with neighbors, the big objective is mutual respect and friendship-
not seeing if you can have their dog impounded because once in a while it
barks at night.
Paraphrasing some military lingo, it is much better to lose a battle and win the
war than to win a battle and lose the war.
Resolve to keep your eyes on the big ball.
2. Ask "Is it really important?", Before becoming negatively excited, just ask
yourself, "Is it important enough for me to get all worked up about?" There is
no better way to avoid frustration over petty matters than to use this medicine.
At least 90 percent of quarrels and feuds would never take place if we just
faced troublesome situations with "Is this really important?"
3. Don't fall into the triviality trap. In milking speeches, solving problems,
counseling employees, think of those things that really matter, things that
make the difference. Don't become submerged under surface issues.
Concentrate on important things.
43

Design Thinking
“Design thinking is a human-centered approach to innovation that draws from the
designer's toolkit to integrate the needs of people, the possibilities of technology,
and the requirements for business success.”
Design thinking utilizes elements from the
designer's toolkit like empathy and experimentation to
arrive at innovative solutions.
Your thoughts are your link with the infinite. It is said
that thought rules the world. Ralph Waldo Emerson
said; ―Thought are things. What you feel you attract;
what you imagine you become. Emerson also said:
―Man is what he thinks all day long‖.
Learn to respect your thoughts. Remember that your happiness, success, peace of
mind and accomplishments in life are determined by your habitual thinking. You
are thinking in the true sense of the word when you are thinking from the
standpoint of universal principle and eternal truths. They never change – are the
same yesterday, today and forever. A mathematician thinks from the standpoint
of the principles of mathematics and not from the ephemeral opinions of men.
46
You are not truly thinking when you are reacting to the headlines in local
newspapers, radio propaganda or from the standpoint of tradition, creed, dogma,
environmental conditions or circumstances.
If there is any fear, worry or anxiety in your thoughts, you are not really thinking.
There is no fear or negation of any kind of true thinking. Fear thoughts result
when you make external things causative, which is the big lie. Externals are
effects, not causes. The cause is your thought and feeling. Every external
condition or circumstance is subject to change.
A few weeks ago, I met a young college man who had been associated with a
firm for over ten years. He explained that he had never received a promotion or
increase in salary, although he had witnessed other men in the organization with
less knowledge of the business and less education steadily move up the ladder
with substantial salary increments and added prestige. This man was experiencing
and producing according to the law of averages.
The law of averages is simply the mind of the masses of humanity, which, for the
most part, believes in failure, lack, limitation and misfortune of all kinds. This
mass mind is governing in a great part of traditional beliefs; for this reason, it is
mostly negative.
This young man was hard on himself. I explained to him clearly that if he did not
think for himself, he would automatically be a victim of the mass mind, which
impinges on the receptive medium of his mind and does all his thinking for him,
resulting in negation, lack with the misery of all kinds.
47
He began to activate his conscious mind spiritually, which soon became a low of
action at his subconscious level. He quickly realized the vast difference between
spiritual thinking and average (mass) thinking.
He reiterated this truth‘s several times a day, making sure that he did not
subsequently deny what he consciously affirmed:
―Promotion is mine. Success is mine now. Right action is mine now. Wealth is
mine now. By day and by night I am advancing, moving forward, growing and
Prospering Spiritually, Mentally, Materially, Socially and Financially. I know
that I become what I affirm, sink down into my subconscious mind – like seeds,
grow after their kind. I water these seeds (ideas) frequently during the day with
faith and expectancy. I give thanks for the joy of the answered prayer.‖
The young man disciplined his thought-life. Whenever thoughts of fear lack of
criticism of self-doubt came to his mind, he would supplant the negative thought
instantaneously. After a while, the negative thoughts lost all momentum and
today (three months later) he is executive vice-president of the corporation. He
realizes now that he promoted himself and his postulates created his destiny.
Scientists tell us that every eleven months we have a ‗new body‘. This man had
changed his entire mental and emotional outlook on life. He became interested in
spiritual truths and began leading an upright life. Therefore, the man who has
48
committed all the crimes no longer existed. There was to be no such man
anymore.
The Life Principle (God) never punishes or condemns; man condemns and
punishes himself by misuse of the laws of mind. When he forgives himself and
uses the law righteously through right thinking, right feeling, and right action,
there is an automatic response of the subconscious mind is accordance with the
new mental pattern and the past is forgotten and remembered no more. A new
beginning is a new end, for the beginning and the end is the same. Begin a new
life with faith, confidence, love and goodwill to all and you know the end will be
glorious and wonderful.
Action Exercises
1. Resolve today to think and act like wealthy people. Practice the ideas in
this chapter
2. Select one habit that you think can help you to develop the mindset, the
self-concept, of wealthy people, and work
49
Visualization
“To accomplish great things we must first dream, then visualize, then plan…
believe… act!”
What you think, you become. What you
concentrate your attention on, you can attract.
What you visualize, you can accomplish.
Visualization can help you to direct your
thoughts and to steer all your actions in one
direction. It will help you to live your life
with more clarity, focus, and purpose.
Visualization is, therefore, a fantastic
technique to utilize the creative force of your
thoughts. It enables you to direct this
powerful force to improve every aspect of
your life. Every single individual that is
successful visualizes, be it consciously or unconsciously, to attract success and
prosperity into their lives.
The following will introduce you to the magnificent power of creative
visualization. It will show you what visualization is and how you can use it to
affect beneficial change in your life. You‘ll also find in the following some easy
visualization techniques to achieve the best results. Let‘s use creative
visualization to transform our lives!
50
Creative visualization is a powerful technique. It can be seen as a kind of
rehearsal that you repeatedly conduct in your mind. In doing so, it helps you to
use your imagination to affect positive changes in your life. If applied correctly,
the power of visualization can transform your life. It will aid you in attracting to
your life what you‘ve ever dreamt of.
Visualization, however, is not magic. It is not that you visualize something and it
will magically appear. Instead, visualization helps you to lay the important
fundamentals for the accomplishment of your dreams. It has a profound impact
on your subconscious. And this is where the true power of visualization starts to
kick in. Visualization influences the subconscious mind beneficially, which in
turn enables you to actively accomplish your dreams and wishes.
In this sense, visualization will not make things appear miraculously out of
nothingness. Instead, it will enable you to accomplish these things on your own
account. Visualization creates the right mental beliefs and attitudes that help you
to do whatever necessary to accomplish your aims. It can entirely change your
thinking processes and helps you in erasing self-limiting thoughts.
If done correctly, visualization can attract the right circumstances into your life.
It has the power to change your environment and to invite certain opportunities.
By intensively visualizing specific objects or situations, you lay the foundation to
make things happen. But it certainly is not magic. It always requires action on
your part. But if you are willing to combine visualization with the diligent
pursuit of your dreams, you will unleash the creative power of your thoughts.
51
And it all is accomplished by applying natural mental laws every one of us can
use.
WHAT IS CREATIVE VISUALIZATION?
Visualization is the process of purposefully creating intense mental imagery in
order to affect beneficial psychological changes. It can be considered as a form
of rehearsal that is continuously performed in the mind. By visualizing vivid
sceneries of the accomplishment of certain goals, you condition your
subconscious mind to act upon it. The reason for this is that the subconscious
mind is unable to tell the difference between a real-world experience and
something that is just imagined, as scientific research suggests.
By means of constant repetition, the subconscious starts to accept the visualized
thought. When this happens, mindsets, beliefs, habits and behaviors are changed
accordingly. As a result, every thought and action are directed towards the
accomplishment of the specific aim. Furthermore, the beliefs, mindsets and
mental strength necessary for reaching your goals are established within you.
They will allow you to keep pursuing your goal, even when confronted with
difficulties.
At the same time, visualization has a beneficial influence on your neural
pathways. By continuously visualizing certain actions, the behavior will feel
more familiar once it‘s actually performed. The reason for this lies in the fact that
real-life action and visualization activate large parts of precisely the same neural
networks. Even more surprising, scientists found that the sole act of visualizing a
52
certain exercise has helped athletes to attain almost the same strength gains like
someone who performed the exercise in real life.
HOW DOES VISUALIZATION WORK AND WHY?
Visualization greatly influences the subconscious mind. This is due to the fact
that the subconscious cannot distinguish between something that is intensively
imagined and real-life events. As a result, if you repeatedly visualize certain
thoughts, the subconscious mind will start to accept them. It will begin to act
upon the visualized suggestions, which in turn starts to manifest changes in your
life.
Visualization can, therefore, assist you in quickly establishing the necessary
mindsets, beliefs, habits and actions that help you in accomplishing what you‘ve
visualized. It further enables you to develop the same confidence that usually
could only be acquired by regularly experiencing a sense of achievement in real
life. Visualization can, therefore, increase your confidence and encourages you to
believe in yourself, which increases the likelihood that you will pursue your
goals until realized.
This is the magnificent way visualization works. But why does it work?
While scientific research has countless times shown that visualization works, it
struggles with explaining why exactly it works. Yes, scientists understand that
visualization conditions neurological pathways and influences the subconscious
53
mind, but they have great difficulties in explaining why this has such a powerful
impact on a person‘s life.
One possible explanation lies in the tremendous power of thoughts. Visualization
allows us to apply specific mental laws that govern the creative power of
thoughts. By visualizing, we focus on and intensify specific thoughts. Thoughts
are made of energy, and by focusing intensively on a specific idea, we nurture it
with attention and emotional energy. This process can affect internal changes that
are reflected in the world around us. We can, therefore, change our reality by
changing the way we think. Why exactly this works is up for speculation, but it
works.
HOW TO VISUALIZE?
The process of visualization is really simple. It does not even take longer than
five for 10 minutes. However, it takes dedication and regular practice to manifest
results. This is the central aspect many people struggle with. They visualize for
two of three days but give up quickly as they haven‘t become millionaires. Be
patient and stick with it, then you will see results.
In the beginning, it is important to find something that you want. Preferably, it is
a meaningful and realistic goal. Once you‘ve found something that you want to
attract into your life, the visualization can begin.
Seat yourself somewhere comfortable. Make sure that your environment is quiet
and free of distractions. Then close your eyes and start imagining in great detail
54
how you accomplish your goal. See yourself having or experiencing whatever it
is you desire. Repeat this movie in your mind again and again.
Keep these guidelines in mind:
 Make it seem as if it were real. The key to visualization is to intensively
imagine how it actually feels like to be successful or to have what you
want. It is not enough to simply create mental images. Even though
visualization is described as the creation of mental imagery, it does not
consist only of creating visual images. Instead, it is important to get all
your senses involved. Visualization can only be truly effective if you
creatively manage to use all your senses. Don‘t just see yourself victorious,
feel it. Feel the excitement, the joy, and happiness. Feel how the adrenaline
rushes through your system and how your heart beats. Feel, hear and smell
how it feels like to have finally accomplished what you‘ve desired for so
long. The goal with visualization is to create such an intense mental image
that it seems as if it were real.
 Don‘t just watch, participate. When visualizing, many people make the
mistake of observing their actions from a third-person perspective. They
see themselves accomplishing their goals, but not from the first-person
perspective. It is as if they‘re watching a movie, without being engaged in
it. It is important to keep in mind that visualization must always be done
from the first-person perspective. Otherwise, you simply imagine seeing
someone accomplishing all these things you‘re dreaming of. For this
reason, participate and engage in your visualization. Don‘t be an observer,
be the focal point of the whole movie.
55
 Be specific. In general, it‘s advisable to visualize specific goals. Seeing
yourself getting a promotion might not produce quick results. Instead, try
to visualize how exactly you‘re going to earn this promotion. Visualize
every single step you‘re going to take on the path to a better career. See the
actions you are going to take.
 Practice regularly. Mastering the skills of visualization takes time. Many
beginners struggle with creating and maintaining the mental imagery. It is,
therefore, important to be concentrated while visualizing. Refocus your
attention whenever your mind drifts off. At the same time, be aware that it
takes practice to manifest results. Only visualizing a goal that is difficult to
obtain once or twice will most likely not do the trick.
 Be patient. As a rule of thumb, visualize realistic things and keep
visualizing until whatever it is you want has come into your life. If it isn‘t
there yet, it requires more time and effort.
If you follow these guidelines, you will see results. The more intense and real the
visualized imagery feels, the better can you trick your mind into believing it‘s
real.
3 Easy Visualization Techniques
There are many powerful visualization techniques you can use. If you wish,
simply use the basic visualization practice described above (the technique is
called ―receptive visualization‖). But if you are looking for some other
56
techniques to spice things up, the following is for you. Use these powerful and
proven visualization techniques to attract what you desire into your life.
Treasure mapping. This powerful technique creates, as the name indicates, a
treasure map that shows the reality you seek to create. It‘s a large physical picture
that outlines in great detail how you envision your future. The map can be created
by drawing it, but you can also use Photoshop/Gimp or even pictures from
magazines. While you spend time creating the trash a map, your mind will
visualize your dreams over and over. And once the treasure map is finished, you
can use it to maintain a high level of motivation simply by regularly reminding
yourself of your dreams and ambitions.
Altered memory visualization. Instead of focusing on the desired state in the
future, this technique specializes in helping you to better cope with the past.
Basically, the technique seeks to assist you in modifying past memories. In doing
so, you can actively create a more positive memory of what happened. The goal
of this technique does not lie in changing the past or making things undone. It‘s
also not meant to suppress bad memories. Instead, the technique is designed to
help you resolve negative memories. It will help you to let go of the pain and
resentment you associate with the memory. If you manage to change how you
think about the past, you can build a brighter future.
Visualizing while meditation. If you know how to meditate, you can make use
of it by beginning to visualize after you‘re meditating for a certain while. It will
help you to begin the visualization once you‘ve reached a deep level of relaxation.
Your concentration will also be much higher, which helps you to focus more
intensively on your visualization.
57
VISUALIZE SUCCESS
Visualizing success can be extraordinarily powerful. It‘s something that top
performers habitually do before actively pursuing their goals. Many of them
visualize in greatest detail how they intend to succeed, long before they start
taking action. Visualizing success can provide impressive results if done correctly.
Step 1. Break the road to success into smaller segments. Unless you intend to
visualize yourself succeeding in one particular situation, it‘s always advisable to
divide your entire plan of becoming successful in life into smaller sections.
Step 2. Once you have smaller segments, create goals for each segment. For
instance, a young person that dreams of becoming a successful lawyer or a
renowned judge will first have to successfully graduate from high school
(segment 1), then attend university (segment 2) and so on. It makes, therefore,
sense to create specific goals for the time during high school first.
Step 3. Begin visualizing the outcome of the first sub-goal. When visualizing
success, it‘s important to create an intensely detailed experience. Visualize every
little detail. Don‘t just picture yourself succeeding, picture your entire
environment. See how the people around you react. Visualize in great detail what
it feels like to succeed. Picture every action of the entire situation. Visualize the
whole event from beginning to end.
Step 4. You can spend visualizing each goal for about 10 minutes, or longer.
After you‘ve finished visualizing one goal, start with the next one.

Affirmations
"An Affirmation opens the door. It's a beginning point on the path to change"
Today the power and effectiveness of
affirmations are not a theory, but indeed a
truthful fact, that nobody can deny. Even
scientists have agreed that we can influence
our subconscious mind and our deepest
beliefs, followed by a change in our attitude
and behavior, therefore, we can make
changes in our material world.
If we constantly repeat the same thing over, and over, and over again, our mind
makes an adaptation, and eventually, starts to believe that the thing we constantly
repeat is an ultimate truth.
By learning to write and use affirmations the right way we can change every
aspect of our life which brings us to the fact that we indeed have a complete
control over everything in our lives.
What could be possibly a better reason for changing the way you think and feel
about happiness, relationships and love – of your closed ones and yourself?
59
THE MISUNDERSTANDING OF AFFIRMATIONS – BEWARE!
Many people still believe in the fact that just by chanting a string of words they
can influence other people and therefore change their own life. This does not
work that way.
First of all, with affirmations, you never influence other people. You influence
only yourself and the way how you think and feel which produces the vibration
you‘re in. When you change the way, you feel, instantly you are changing the
vibration and the aura that surrounds your body.
When you do this, you start to attract things in correlation with your vibration
which in turn gives you the results you want, but it never changes the aura of
other people.
So don‘t think that by writing affirmations about some person, you can change
that person, or attract him or her into your life. Or perhaps, to bring your family
together.
That‘s an illusion… Instead, focus on changing yourself and that will lead to an
even better reward. You will start to think, feel, act and behave differently, which
in return, changes the kind of people and circumstances that will be attracted in
your life.
Let‘s say you really want to attract your soul mate and there is a woman or a man
that you believe is that person. All you need to do is read and feel the
affirmations and change the vibration you are in.
60
If they are in the same vibration, then you will really attract them and the
universe will bring you what you want… If they are not, then you will attract
somebody else even better.
Remember, you are not trying to change something outside of yourself… Instead,
you are changing your inner world. You start to live from inwards towards
outwards, from the world within to the world without.
You start to see the world from a different perspective, you feel and experience
different everything and everyone, while in fact, the world hasn‘t changed a
single bit – you have!
The art of the spoken word is critical in crafting our futures. Find below some of

There is no doubt that affirmations have the power and potential to change every
aspect of your life. However, no amount of mechanical reading will do you any
good.

reading them.
Be persistent! Do not give up although it might seem from time to time that
nothing is happening. Eventually, you will reprogram your subconscious mind
and your entire perception will be changed.
You will raise your vibrations to such levels, that the universe will reward you
with the finest gifts and blessings you could possibly experience in a lifetime.
64
Motivation
“Be Strong because things will get better. It may be stormy now, but it never rains
forever”
Most people think that motivation for them is out of reach. They have an
average job at an average company. This chapter is intended to give people hope
by shining the light on people who are in average regular jobs but are amazing.
We will be discussing on the few stories of people in ordinary jobs, but despite
that fact, they decided NOT to be ordinary. They performed their jobs brilliantly,
exceptionally, differently and exceeded everyone's expectations of what that job
"should" be every day. More importantly, everyone around them knows it, sees it
and acknowledges it.
We should understand that for you to be motivated you cannot learn it from a
seminar or from your manager. Motivation always comes from within you. You
are going to learn on how to get motivated and that‘s the key.
I wanted to narrate a story which I read from the book ‗Mo‘, it‘s about a shoe
shiner who is shining shoes in an airport.
Mr. Willie Morris is the shoe shiner at the airport in Florida. If he is not busy
shinning a customer‘s shoes at his stand, you can count on him to be walking
around saying hello to travelers on their way to their boarding gates or having a
warm conversation with an old time frequent flying customer.
65
Willie Morris has worked for Pernell‘s super Shoe Shine Company for nineteen
years. Would be referring him has Morris in this entire story. Whenever a
customer pass his stand on their to the boarding gate he would always say hello.
He would always end each of the short conversations with, ‗Always a pleasure to
talk to you‖.
While polishing the shoes, he always talks about what he is doing to keep your
shoes looking great, what he is using, and why he is using it on your shoes. I
learned from him that shining shoes is like painting a wall that has wallpaper on
it; you have to remove the old polish before you put on the new polish and
remember to shine and seal them too. Mr. Morris says, ―This is really important if
your shoes are exposed to the cold and if they get wet.‖ I learned a lot about why
I need to take care of my shoes and why Mr. Morris is the one to do it. I also
learned one the reasons Mr. Morris keeps on talking to his customers: ‖If I don‘t
talk to them, they won‘t talk to me.‖ Most people just watch as their shoes are
being shined, read the paper, or just sit there doing nothing. Mr. Morris makes it
entertaining, fun, and educational all while he is giving you the best darn
shoeshine you will ever have-ever! No wonder everyone keeps coming back.
Before 9/11 when non-traveling passengers could go beyond security to the
boarding gate area where Pernell‘s Super Shoe Shine stand is, many locals would
bring bags of shoes to Mr. Morris to shine and then pick them up on another day.
Mr. Morris had lockers at his shoeshine stand where he could secure store his
customer‘s shoes for them. In those days, there were hardly any places to get a
really good shoeshine other than airports, and if you think about it, this is truer
then every today.
66
Mr. Morris tells me that a lot of the younger guys these days just wear their shoes
unpolished and torn up. Come on guys, get with the program! Many of his ―big,
regular frequent flyers‖ will sit to have the shoes they have on shined and also a
pair or two that are in their carry-ons. Smart!.
If the fashion of people wearing sneakers has affected his shoeshine business, and
he said, ―No, my main customers are business travelers who wear leather shoes or
boots and some wear synthetic rubber of plastic, and they need to be conditioned
too.‖ Who knew?
It is obvious that Mr. Morris loves what he does. He says, ―My customers depend
on me being here when they come through. So I am.‖ He works twelve hours a
day, five days a week, every week.
Mr. Morris says hello to everyone that passes by Pernell‘s Super Shoe Shine
stand in the Fort Lauderdale airport. He is a true professional, and even of je has
shine your shoes just one time, he will remember your shoes, he will probably
remember exactly what king they were, and most of all he will always remember
you. He makes you feel like his very best customer, always.
Notes
1. Make everyone feel like your best customer. They will reward you with their
ongoing business.
2. Remember people’s faces. Who doesn‘t like to be remembered?
3. Don’t be silent when selling. Keep talking and telling your customer whet
they need to know about what you are doing. Teach and they will remember.
67
4. Look. If you are taking care of someone‘s hair, you look at their haircut, and if
you are taking care of someone‘s stocks, you look at their stock portfolio. So if
you are taking care of someone‘s shoes, remember to look at their feet.
5. Find your niche. Offer a service or product that is needed by consumers and
hard to find and be the best at it.
6.Out with the old. Remember to have the old shoe polish removed before you
put on the new, and always seal, too.
7. Start strong and finish strong. Have a great, smiling ―hello‖ and an even
better ―good bye‖ (Like Mr. Morris says, ―It is always a pleasure to talk to you.‖).
This can become your signature and people will remember you for it.
Here is another interesting story which I wanted to share with you on the similar
subject.
A popular speaker started off a seminar by holding up a
$20 bill. A crowd of 200 had gathered to hear him speak.
He asked, ―Who would like this $20 bill?‖
200 hands went up.
He said, ―I am going to give this $20 to one of you but
first, let me do this.‖ He crumpled the bill up.
He then asked, ―Who still wants it?‖
All 200 hands were still raised.
68
―Well,‖ he replied, ―What if I do this?‖ Then he dropped the bill on the ground
and stomped on it with his shoes.
He picked it up and showed it to the crowd. The bill was all crumpled and dirty.
―Now who still wants it?‖
All the hands still went up.
―My friends, I have just shown you a very important lesson. No matter what I did
to the money, you still wanted it because it did not decrease in value. It was still
worth $20. Many times, in our lives, life crumbles us and grinds us into the dirt.
We make bad decisions or deal with poor circumstances. We feel worthless. But
no matter what has happened or what will happen, you will never lose your value.
You are special – Don‘t ever forget it!
One of the most commonly debated and researched fields in the business world is
motivation. Why do people do what they do and how can we motivate others to
do what we need them to do in the business place? If we understand how and
why people are motivated, we can encourage them to be their best and do their
best at work. The more that people are motivated to be successful and achieve the
goals set for them, the more their confidence in their own abilities will grow as
well, which can, in turn, make them even more motivated.
But you can also work on your own confidence and motivation in the workplace
in order to achieve your goals and intentions. When people are, confident and
motivated at work, there are many positive factors that result in the workplace:
69
Once upon a time a daughter
complained to her father that her life
was miserable and that she didn‘t know
how she was going to make it. She was
tired of fighting and struggling all the
time. It seemed just as one problem
was solved, another one soon followed.
Her father, a chef, took her to the
kitchen. He filled three pots with water
and placed each on a high fire. Once
the three pots began to boil, he placed
potatoes in one pot, eggs in the second pot, and ground coffee beans in the third
pot.
He then let them sit and boil, without saying a word to his daughter. The daughter,
moaned and impatiently waited, wondering what he was doing.
After twenty minutes, he turned off the burners. He took the potatoes out of the
pot and placed them in a bowl. He pulled the eggs out and placed them in a bowl.
He then ladled the coffee out and placed it in a cup. Turning to her he asked.
―Daughter, what do you see?‖
―Potatoes, eggs, and coffee,‖ she hastily replied.
―Look closer,‖ he said, ―and touch the potatoes.‖ She did and noted that they
were soft. He then asked her to take an egg and break it. After pulling off the
70
shell, she observed the hard-boiled egg. Finally, he asked her to sip the coffee. Its
rich aroma brought a smile to her face.
―Father, what does this mean?‖ she asked.
He then explained that the potatoes, the eggs and coffee beans had each faced the
same adversity– the boiling water.
However, each one reacted differently.
The potato went in strong, hard, and unrelenting, but in boiling water, it became
soft and weak.
The egg was fragile, with the thin outer shell protecting its liquid interior until it
was put in the boiling water. Then the inside of the egg became hard.

How to Avoid Negative Words
The above image is an indication of how our thought, beliefs, and words
progress towards actions and what are the words we should avoid and if we fail to
do that what is the antidote for that.
How these negative words are modeled in our thoughts due to our previous
experiences let‘s take an example
THOUGHTS
BELIEFS
WORDS
ACTIONS
ANTITODE
TRY
TOXIC
WORDS
WHY
CAN’T DON’T
I
WILL HOW
I CAN
NOT
WAN’T
75
Jenny is a middle-aged woman who is looking for a partner and wants to get
settled in life as her search goes on she is not able to get the right partner and
she gets the following Thoughts “I just can’t find the perfect man” as her
thought’s keeps repeating in her mind subconsciously several numbers of times
and this becomes her Belief. She also goes around informing all her friends and
family members that how she is not able to find the perfect man; every time she
says this Belief reinforces her in the negative path. This belief is going to steer
into action that the perfect man doesn’t exist they’re all married and she’s not
going to take committed action to extract the results.
What is that you want to achieve thoughts-moves the thought it creates; beliefs
and word to describe the beliefs and which drives actions and you get results
Toxic
1. Try ( i tried)- is not committed
2. Why(why this always happens to me/ why can‘t I achieve)
3. Can't ( I can‘t, all possibilities are closed) I can‘t achieve something
4. Don‘t ( i don‘t want to)
Antitode
1. I will/Won't Try - Committed
2. How (how can I achieve/ how can I get this information)
3. I can (Pause) not - I can (Pause) not find that man
4. Want ( i want to attract lot of money) I want to be in perfect shape
76
A further thought on the dangers of negative messages, as explored. There we
were talking about the difference it makes to rephrase a message in a positive
way. But there‘s more. Certain words have an extra powerful negative impact,
and it‘s worth sensitizing your awareness of them.
I wanted to talk about ‗power words‘ or ‗trigger words‘, meaning those words
which typically generate a powerful subconscious response in the reader. There‘s
nothing mysterious about these words – ‗agree‘ might be an example – but they
do have an impact, usually not noticed by the reader. We‘ll talk about these
positive power words another time, but there are negative power words too. And
because it‘s so easy to use them, even when you‘re trying to convey a positive
message, it‘s important to know what they are.
Here‘s a selection:
can‘t won‘t didn‘t urgent difficulties problem mistake, unfortunately,
judgment rigid strict extremely difficult impossible attempt try
maybe unimportant never always ought should must
You might think these are obviously negative, but look closer.
Clearly saying ‗won‘t‘ sounds negative, but have you ever written ‗that won‘t be
a problem‘? You‘ve got two negative power words right there, and you‘re trying
to be reassuring and positive.
What about writing to a customer to explain that something has gone wrong but
that you are going to make this up to them – have you ever begun by writing
‗Unfortunately…‘? That‘s exactly the wrong way to start. You‘re priming them
77
to feel bad. Instead, begin on a positive initial note. ‗Thanks for your recent
order‘, for example. Or ‗We always aim, to be honest, and open with our
customers…‘
You think that‘s manipulative? It‘s only manipulative if smiling at someone is
manipulative: it‘s simply sending out a positive message of intent.
How about ‗strict‘? Sounds off-putting on its own, but have you ever written
something like ‗we operate strict standards to ensure we never let our customers
down‘? A sentence like that is meant positively but is packed with subconscious
negative trigger words.
It turns out that subconsciously people generally don‘t like absolutes – we don‘t
like ‗never‘, but we don‘t like ‗always‘ either. Perhaps it makes us feel hemmed
in. ‗Strict‘ is something similar. It just sounds oppressive, even if you mean it
positively
'Ought‘, ‗should‘ and ‗must‘ are similar – they‘re coercive. Obvious when you
step back, but not obvious when you‘re trying to urge your audience to take up an
offer. ‗If you‘re looking for a new mortgage, you should take a look at our rates‘.
Sounds innocuous, but it contains coercion. And people don‘t like being told
what to do.
The more you can avoid negative power words, the more likely you are to get a
positive response. And if this sounds like a trick or a formula that really good
communicators don‘t need to bother with, then consider this: however naturally
talented you are, learning to do anything more effectively (tennis, for example),
78
starts by paying conscious attention to certain habits, and then consciously
changing them.
And the habit of using these words that bring a little charge of negative energy is
one that‘s worth changing.
79

Sculpting Your Genius

  • 2. 1 Acknowledgement My sincere thanks to the various authors‘ whom I consider as my first line of impression in writing this book. I would also like to thank my close friends, my family and my siblings who were helpful in writing this book. My major inspiration for writing the book was to give back something to the society which I felt is necessary. Everyone is born to win and has his life is progressing he loses track of this and in due course due he is being made to change directions which lead him to the unexpected outcomes for which he is not ready. That one such incident which I faced in my life was the turning point which made me think I remember this quote from one of the books I read: “The Cave You Fear to Enter Holds All Your Treasure”
  • 3. 2 Preface THE SECRET OF USING THIS BOOK IS TO CHANGE YOUR LIFE This book has been designed not merely to be read but to be experienced. You can acquire information from reading a book. But to "experience" you must creatively respond to information. Acquiring information itself is passive. Experiencing is active. When you "experience," something happens inside your nervous system and your midbrain. New "engrams" and "neural" patterns are recorded in the gray matter of your brain. This book has been designed to force you literally to "experience." Tailor-made, prefabricated "case histories" have been kept intentionally to a minimum. Instead, you are asked to furnish your own "case histories" by exercising imagination and memory. I have not supplied "summaries" at the end of each chapter. Instead, you are asked to jot down the most important points which appeal to you as key points which should be remembered. You will digest the information in this book better if you do your own analysis and summation of the chapters. Finally, you will find throughout the book certain things to do and certain practice exercises which you are asked to perform. These exercises are straightforward and simple to perform; however, they must be done often if you're to derive the most benefit from them.

  • 5. 4 Self-Image “Your Self-Image is the Blue Print of our Success” Discovery of the "SELF-IMAGE" represents a break-through in psychology and the field of creative personality. The significance of the self-image has been recognized for more than a decade. Yet there has been little written about it. Curiously enough, this is not because "self-image psychology" has not worked, but because it has worked so amazingly well. I was inspired by this book (New Faces—New Futures) which was published by a plastic surgeon and which had a more or less collection of case histories where plastic surgery, and particularly facial plastic surgery, had opened the door to a new life for many people. That book told of the amazing changes that often occur quite suddenly and dramatically in a person's personality when you change his face. Some patients showed no change in personality after surgery. In most cases, a person who had a conspicuously ugly face or some "freakish" feature corrected by surgery, experienced an almost immediate (usually within 21 days) rise in self-esteem, self-confidence. But in some cases, the patient continued to feel inadequate and experienced feelings of inferiority. In short, these "failures" continued to feel act and behave just as if they still had an ugly face.
  • 6. 5 This indicated to me that reconstruction of the physical image itself was not "the" real key to changes in personality. There was something else which was usually influenced by facial surgery, but sometimes not. When this "something else" was reconstructed, the person himself changed. When this "something else" was not reconstructed the person, himself remained the same, although his physical features might be radically different. THE FACE OF PERSONALITY It was as if personality itself had a "face." This non-physical "face of personality" seemed to be the real key to personality change. If it remained scarred, distorted, "ugly," or inferior, the person himself acted out this role in his behavior regardless of the changes in physical appearance. If this "face of personality" could be reconstructed, if old emotional scars could be removed; then the person himself changed, even without facial plastic surgery. Once I began to explore this area, I found more and more phenomena which confirmed the fact that the "self-image," the individual's mental and spiritual concept or "picture" of himself, was the real key to personality and behavior. THE SELF-IMAGE—THE REAL SECRET Discovery of the self-image explains all the apparent discrepancies we have been discussing. It is the common denominator—the determining factor in all our case histories, the failures as well as the successes. The secret is this: To really "live," that is to find life reasonably satisfying, you must have an adequate and realistic self-image that you can live with. You must find yourself acceptable to "you." You must have a wholesome self-esteem. You must have a self that you can trust
  • 7. 6 and believe in. You must have a self that you are not ashamed to "be," and one that you can feel free to express creatively, rather than to hide or cover up. You must have a self that corresponds to reality so that you can function effectively in a real world. You must know yourself—both your strengths and your weaknesses and be honest with yourself concerning both. Your self-image must be a reasonable approximation of "you," being neither more than you are nor less than you are. When this self-image is intact and secure, you feel "good." When it is threatened, you feel anxious and insecure. When it is adequate and one that you can be wholesomely proud of, you feel self-confident. You feel free to "be yourself" and to express yourself. You function at your optimum. When it is an object of shame, you attempt to hide it rather than express it. Creative expression is blocked. You become hostile and hard to get along with. If a scar on the face enhances the self-image, self-esteem and self-confidence are increased. When a facial disfigurement is corrected by plastic surgery, dramatic psychological changes result only if there is a corresponding correction of the mutilated self-image. YOU’RE PROGRAM FOR BETTER LIVING In my opinion, psychology during the past 30 years has become far too pessimistic regarding man and his potentiality for both change and greatness. Since psychologists and psychiatrists deal with so-called "abnormal" people, the literature is almost exclusively taken up with man's various abnormalities, his
  • 8. 7 tendencies toward self-destruction. Many people, I am afraid, have read so much of this type of thing that they have come to regard such things as hatred, the "destructive instinct," guilt, self-condemnation, and all the other negatives as "normal human behavior." The average person feels awfully weak and impotent when he thinks of the prospect of pitting his puny will against these negative forces in human nature, in order to gain health and happiness. If this were a true picture of human and the human condition, "self-improvement" would indeed be a rather futile thing. However, I believe, that you do not have to do the job alone. There is within each one of us a "life instinct," which is forever working toward health, happiness, and all that makes for more life for the individual. This "life instinct" works for you through what I call the Creative Mechanism, or when used correctly the "Success Mechanism" built into each human being. Following are the symptoms of low Self-image jealousy rejecting luxury unnecessarily negative talk about ourselves failure to give affection experiencing guilt failure to accept and enjoy affection failure to give compliments criticizing others inability to accept compliments comparing ourselves with others not taking our own needs into account constant poor health, which is the drive for attention at any cost not asking for what we want
  • 9. 8 The solution to this? Give compliments. Accept compliments. Always speak well of yourself and others. Praise yourself. Separate your current behavior from who you are as a person. Treat your body well. Let others know how you want to be treated, and remember to treat them that way as well. Get around good people. Pamper yourself. And paint a picture of yourself in your mind as you want to be. You will gravitate toward that mental image. Once you are on the road to becoming on the outside who you always were on the inside, you can begin to love others effectively. As you give out compliments and feed the hunger of other people, you will begin to receive their acceptance, approval, and appreciation – the very things you desire for yourself. PRACTICE EXERCISE NO. 1 Get a New Mental Picture of Yourself The unhappy, failure-type personality cannot develop a new self-image by pure willpower, or by arbitrarily deciding to. There must be some grounds, some justification, some reason for deciding that the old picture of self is in error and that a new picture is appropriate. You cannot merely imagine a new self-image; unless you feel that it is based upon truth. Experience has shown that when a person
  • 10. 9 does change his self-image, he has the feeling that for one reason or another, he "sees," or realizes the truth about himself. The truth in this chapter can set you free of an old inadequate self-image, if you read it often, think intently about the implications, and "hammer home" its truths to yourself. Science has now confirmed what philosophers, mystics, and other intuitive people have long declared: every human being has been literally "engineered for success" by his Creator. Every human being has access to a power greater than himself. This means "YOU."As Emerson has said, "There are no great and no small." If you were engineered for success and happiness, then the old picture of yourself as unworthy of happiness, of a person who was "meant" to fail, must be in error. Read this chapter through at least three times per week for the first 21 days. Study it and digest it Look for examples in your experiences, and the experiences of your friends, which illustrate the creative mechanism in action. Memorize the following basic principles by which your success mechanism operates. You do not need to be an electronic engineer, or a physicist, to operate your own servo-mechanism, any more than you have to be able to engineer an automobile in order to drive one or become an electrical engineer in order to turn on the light in your room. You do need to be familiar with the following;
  • 11. 10 however, because having memorized them, they will throw "new light" on what is to follow: 1. Your built-in success mechanism must have a goal or "target." This goal, or target, must be conceived of as "already in existence—now" either in actual or potential form. It operates by either a) steering you to a goal already in existence or by b) "discovering" something already in existence. 2. The automatic mechanism is teleological, that is, operates, or must be oriented to "end results," goals. Do not be discouraged because of the "means whereby" may not be apparent. It is the function of the automatic mechanism to supply the "means whereby" when you supply the goal. Think in terms of the end result, and the means whereby will often take care of themselves. 3. Do not be afraid of making mistakes, or of temporary failures. All servo- mechanisms achieve a goal by negative feedback, or by going forward, making mistakes, and immediately correcting course. 4. Skill learning of any kind is accomplished by trial and error, mentally correcting aim after an error, until a "successful" motion, movement or performance has been achieved. After that, further learning, and continued success are accomplished by forgetting the past 'errors, and remembering the successful response, so that it can be "imitated."
  • 12. 11 5. You must learn to trust your creative mechanism to do its work and not "jam it" by becoming too concerned or too anxious as to whether it will work or not, or by attempting to force it by too much conscious effort. You must "let it" work, rather than "make it" work. This trust is necessary because your creative mechanism operates below the level of consciousness, and you cannot "know" what is going on beneath the surface. Moreover, its nature is to operate spontaneously according to present need. Therefore, you have no guarantees in advance. It comes into operation as you act and as you place a demand upon it by your actions. You must not wait to act until you have proof—you must act as if it is there, and it will come through. "Do the thing and you will have the power," said Emerson. 6. When nothing seems to be working even after ensuring all the above five steps which indicate ―Stress‖ and this is an indication that you have deviated your defined path. At this don‘t think of anything just accept this truth and realign yourself to the Goal and success is inevitable.
  • 13. 12 The Goal “A Goal without a Plan is Just a Wish” I believe that the Goal is about Science and education. I believe that these two words have been abused to the extent that their original meanings have been lost in a fog of too much respect and mystery. Science for me, and for the vast majority or respectable scientist, is not about the secrets of nature or even about truths. Science is simply the method we use to try and postulate a minimum set assumption that can explain, through a straightforward logical derivation, the existence of many phenomena of nature. Goal setting is everywhere in our world. We set goals for our careers, our health, and our lives in general. It seems modern society is always encouraging us to think about the next milestone. However, what we don't think about enough is the science and strategy of how to accomplish your goals. Whether you're setting personal goals or professional goals, this chapter will explain everything you need to know.
  • 14. 13 Most goal setting exercises start with an overpaid consultant standing by a whiteboard and asking something like, ―What does success look like to you? In very specific terms, what do you want to achieve?‖ If we are serious about achieving our goals, however, we should start with a much different question. Rather than considering what kind of success we want, we should ask, ―What kind of pain do I want?‖ This is a strategy I learned from one of my reading of the author, Mark Manson. What Mark has realized is that having a goal is the easy part. Who wouldn't want to write a best-selling book or lose weight or earn more money? Everybody wants to achieve these goals. The real challenge is not determining if you want the result, but if you are willing to accept the sacrifices required to achieve your goal. Do you want the lifestyle that comes with your quest? Do you want the boring and ugly process that comes before the exciting and glamorous outcome? It's easy to sit around and think what we could do or what we'd like to do. It is an entirely different thing to accept the tradeoffs that come with our goals. Everybody wants a gold medal. Few people want to train like an Olympian. This brings us to our first key insight. Goal setting is not only about choosing the rewards you want to enjoy, but also the costs you are willing to pay.
  • 15. 14 RUDDERS AND OARS Imagine a small row boat. Your goals are like the rudder on the boat. They set the direction and determine where you go. If you commit to one goal, then the rudder stays put and you continue moving forward. If you flip-flop between goals, then the rudder moves all around and it is easy to find yourself rowing in circles. However, there is another part of the boat that is even more important than the rudder: The oars. If the rudder is your goal, then the oars are your process for achieving it. While the rudder determines your direction, it is the oars that determine your progress. This metaphor of the rudder and the oars helps clarify the difference between systems and goals. It is an important distinction that shows up everywhere in life.  If you‘re a coach, your goal is to win a championship. Your system is what your team does at practice each day.  If you‘re a writer, your goal is to write a book. Your system is the writing schedule that you follow each week.  If you‘re a runner, your goal is to run a marathon. Your system is your training schedule for the month.  If you‘re an entrepreneur, your goal is to build a million-dollar business. Your system is your sales and marketing process.
  • 16. 15 Goals are useful for setting the direction. Systems are great for actually making progress. In fact, the primary benefit of having a goal is that it tells you what sort of system you need to put in place. However, the system itself is what actually achieved the results. This brings us to our second key insight. Goals determine your direction. Systems determine your progress. You'll never get anywhere just by holding the rudder. You have to row. HOW TO SET GOALS YOU'LL ACTUALLY FOLLOW Alright, now that we've discussed the tradeoffs and systems that come with goals, let's talk about how to set goals you'll actually follow. There are three basic strategies I like to use when goal setting. Let's talk about each one now. 1. Ruthlessly Eliminate Your Goals Psychologists have a concept they refer to as ―goal competition.‖ Goal competition says that one of the greatest barriers to achieving your goals is the other goals you have. In other words, your goals are competing with one another for your time and attention. Whenever you chase a new goal, you have to pull focus and energy from your other pursuits. This is basically The Four
  • 17. 16 Burners Theory in action. When you turn one burner up, you have to turn others down. Now, there is good news. One of the fastest ways to make progress on your goals is to simply press pause on less important things and focus on one goal at a time. Sometimes you just need to reorganize your priorities a little bit and suddenly progress comes much more quickly because you are now fully committed to a goal that was only getting moderate attention previously. This is an important insight. Typically, when we fail to reach our goals, we think something was wrong with our goal or our approach. Experts tell us, ―You need to think bigger! Pick a dream that is so big it will motivate you every day.‖ Or we tell ourselves, ―If only I had more hours in the day!‖ These excuses cloud the bigger issue. What often looks like a problem of goal setting is actually a problem of goal selection. What we really need is not bigger goals, but better focus. You need to choose one thing and ruthlessly eliminate everything else. In the words of Seth Godin, ―You don't need more time, you just need to decide.‖ Our lives are like rose bushes. As a rose bush grows, it creates more buds than it can sustain. If you talk to an experienced gardener, they will tell you that rose bushes need to be pruned to bring out the best in both their appearance and their performance. In other words, if you want a rose bush to thrive, then you need to cut away some of the good buds so the great ones can fully blossom.
  • 18. 17 Our goals are similar. They need to be consistently pruned and trimmed down. It‘s natural for new goals to come into our lives and to get excited about new opportunities—just like it‘s natural for a rose bush to add new buds. If we can muster the courage to prune away a few of our goals, then we create the space we need for the remaining goals to fully blossom. Full growth and optimal living require pruning. I've have read about a variety of strategies for getting your priorities in order and focusing on one thing at a time, including:  The Ivy Lee Method  Warren Buffett's 25-5 Rule  The Eisenhower Box  The 20 Slot Rule  The Myth of Multitasking Take a look at those strategies and try out one that resonates with you. 2. Stack Your Goals Research has shown that you are 2x to 3x more likely to stick to your goals if you make a specific plan for when, where, and how you will perform the behavior. For example, in one study scientists asked people to fill out this sentence: ―During the next week, I will partake in at least 20 minutes of vigorous exercise on [DAY] at [TIME OF DAY] at/in [PLACE].‖
  • 19. 18 Researchers found that people who filled out this sentence were 2x to 3x more likely to actually exercise compared to a control group who did not make plans for their future behavior. Psychologists call these specific plans ―implementation intentions‖ because they state when, where, and how you intend to implement a particular behavior. This finding has been repeated across hundreds of studies and has been found to increase the odds that people will start exercising, begin recycling, stick with studying, and even stop smoking. One of my favorite ways to utilize this finding is a strategy I call habit stacking. To use habit stacking, just fill out this sentence: After/Before [CURRENT HABIT], I will [NEW HABIT]. Here are some examples:  Meditation: After I brew my morning coffee, I will meditate for one minute.  Pushups: Before I take my morning shower, I will do 10 pushups.  Flossing: After I set my toothbrush down, I will floss my teeth.  Gratitude: Before I eat dinner, I will say one thing I am grateful for that day.  Networking: After I return from my lunch break, I will send one email to someone I want to meet. Habit stacking works well because you not only create a specific plan for when and where you will implement your goals, but also link your new goals to something you are already doing each day. You can read more on how to stack habits and set triggers for your goals in my popular guide, Transform Your Habits.
  • 20. 19 I find this to be a helpful way to bridge the gap between goals and systems. Our goals tell us what we want to achieve while our systems are the process we follow each day. Habit stacking and implementation intentions help us move from the goal in our heads to the specific process that will make it a reality. 3. Set an Upper Bound Whenever we set goals, we almost always focus on the lower bound. That is, we think about the minimum threshold we want to hit. The implicit assumption is, ―Hey if you can do more than the minimum, go for it.‖  An individual might say, ―I want to lose at least 5 pounds this month.‖  An entrepreneur might say, ―I want to make at least 10 sales calls today.‖  An artist might say, ―I want to write at least 500 words today.‖  A basketball player might say, ―I want to make at least 50 free throws today.‖ But what would it look like if we added an upper bound to our goals and behaviors?  ―I want to lose at least 5 pounds this month, but not more than 10.‖  ―I want to make at least 10 sales calls today, but not more than 20.‖  ―I want to write at least 500 words today, but not more than 1,500.‖  ―I want to make at least 50 free throws today, but not more than 100.‖
  • 21. 20 In many areas of life, there is a magical zone of long-term growth. You want to push hard enough to make progress, but not so much that it is unsustainable. This is where setting an upper limit can be useful. Upper limits make it easier for you to sustain your progress and continue showing up. This is especially critical in the beginning. Whenever you set a new goal and begin working toward it, the single most important thing is showing up. In the beginning, showing up is even more important than succeeding because if you don't build the habit of showing up, then you'll never have anything to improve in the future. HOW TO ACHIEVE YOUR GOALS CONSISTENTLY Effective goal setting requires consideration of the system that surrounds you. Too often, we set the right goals inside the wrong system. If you're fighting your system each day to make progress, then it's going to be really hard to make consistent progress. There are all kinds of hidden forces that make our goals easier or harder to achieve. You need to align your environment with your ambitions if you wish to
  • 22. 21 make progress for the long-run. Let's discuss some practical strategies for doing just that. How to Align Your Environment With Your Goals Although most of us have the freedom to make a wide range of choices at any given moment, we often make decisions based on the environment we find ourselves in. For example, if I wanted to do so, I could drink a beer as I write this guide. However, I am currently sitting at my desk with a glass of water next to me. There are no beers in sight. Although I possess the capability to get up, walk to my car, drive to the store, and buy a beer, I probably won‘t because I am surrounded by easier alternatives. In this case, taking a sip of water is the default decision, the easy decision. Similarly, many of the decisions we make in our professional and personal lives are shaped by the options that surround us.  If you sleep with your phone next to your bed, then checking social media and email as soon as you wake up is likely to be the default decision.  If you walk into your living room and your couches and chairs all face the television, then watching television is likely to be the default decision.  If you keep alcohol in your kitchen, then drinking consistently is more likely to be the default decision. Of course, defaults can be positive as well.
  • 23. 22  If you keep a dumbbell next to your desk at work, then pumping out some quick curls is more likely to be the default decision.  If you keep a water bottle with you throughout the day, then drinking water rather than soda is more likely to be the default decision.  If you place floss in a visible location (like next to your toothbrush), then flossing is more likely to be the default decision. Scientists refer to the impact that environmental defaults can have on our decision making as choice architecture. This has an important impact when it comes to achieving goals. Whether or not you achieve your goals in the long- term has a lot to do with what types of influences surround you in the short-term. It's very hard to stick with positive habits in a negative environment. Here are a few strategies I have found useful when trying to design better default decisions into my life: Simplicity. It is hard to focus on the signal when you‘re constantly surrounded by noise. It is more difficult to eat healthy when your kitchen is filled with junk food. It is more difficult to focus on reading a blog post when you have 10 tabs open in your browser. It is more difficult to accomplish your most important task when you fall into the myth of multitasking. When in doubt, eliminate options. Visual Cues. In the supermarket, placing items on shelves at eye level makes them more visual and more likely to be purchased. Outside of the supermarket, you can use visual cues like the Paper Clip Method or the Seinfeld Strategy to create an environment that visually nudges your actions in the right direction.
  • 24. 23 Opt-Out vs. Opt-In. There is a famous organ donation study that revealed how multiple European countries skyrocketed their organ donation rates: they required citizens to opt-out of donating rather than opt-in to donating. You can do something similar in your life by opting your future self into better habits ahead of time. For example, you could schedule your yoga session for next week while you are feeling motivated today. When your workout rolls around, you have to justify opting out rather than motivating yourself to opt-in. How to Measure Your Goals Another key to making long-term progress on your goals is measurement. The human mind loves to receive feedback. One of the most motivating things we can experience is evidence of our progress. This is why measurement is so critical for effective goal setting. By measuring your results, you get insight on whether or not you are making progress. The things we measure are the things we improve. It is only through numbers and clear tracking that we have any idea if we are getting better or worse. Here are a few of the measurable goals I've implemented:  When I measured how many pushups I did, I got stronger.  When I tracked my reading habit of 20 pages per day, I read more books.  When I recorded my values, I began living with more integrity.
  • 25. 24 The trick is to realize that counting, measuring, and tracking are not about the result. Measure to discover, to find out, and to understand. Measure to see if you are showing up. Measure to see if you're actually spending time on the things that are important to you.
  • 26. 25 Believe & Achieve "If my mind can Conceive it, My heart can believe it; I know I can achieve it!" We are a creation of our beliefs. Success in any area of life is a direct result of your belief system. To change anything in life all one needs to do is change their beliefs. Your beliefs will become a reality by applying the four laws of success. ● The Law Of Belief ● The Law Of Expectation ● The Law Of Imagination ● The Law Of Attraction Is there some force, or factor, or power, or science – call it what you will – which a few people understand and use to overcome their difficulties and achieve outstanding success? I firmly believe that there is, and it is my purpose in this book to try to explain it so that you can use it if you desire. Every human being wants success. Everybody wants the. best this life can deliver. Nobody enjoys crawling, living in mediocrity. No one likes feeling second-class and feeling forced to go that way. Some of the most practical
  • 27. 26 success-building wisdom is found in that biblical quotation stating that faith can move mountains. Believe, really believe, you can move a mountain, and you can. Not many people believe that they can move mountains. So, as a result, not many people do. On some occasion, you've probably heard someone say something like "its nonsense to think you can make a mountain move away just by saying 'Mountain, move away.' It's simply impossible." People who think this way have belief confused with wishful thinking. And true enough, you can't wish away a mountain. You can't wish yourself into an executive suite. Nor can you wish yourself into a five-bedroom, three bath house or the high-income brackets. You can't wish yourself into a position of leadership. But you can move a mountain with belief. You can win success by believing you can succeed. There is nothing magical or mystical about the power of belief. Belief works this way. Belief, the 'I‘m-positive-I-can" attitude, generates the power, skill, and energy needed to do. When you believe I-can-do-it, the how-to- do-it develops. The how-to-do-it always comes to the person who believes he can do it. I am sharing this example from one of the books I read during writing this book.
  • 28. 27 A young woman I'm acquainted with decided two years ago that she was going to establish a sales agency to sell mobile homes. She was advised by many that she shouldn't and couldn't do it. She had less than $3,000 in savings and was advised that the minimum capital investment required was many times that. "Look how competitive it is," she was advised. "And besides, what practical experience have you had in selling mobile homes, let alone managing a business?" her advisors asked. But this young lady had belief in herself and her ability to succeed. She quickly admitted that she lacked capital, that the business was very competitive, and that she lacked experience. ' "But," she said, "all the evidence I can gather shows that the mobile home industry is going to expand. On top of that, I've studied my competition. I know I can do a better job of merchandising trailers than anybody else in this town. I expect to make some mistakes, but I'm going to be on top in a hurry." And she was. She had little trouble getting capital. Her absolutely unquestioned belief that she could succeed with this business won her the confidence of two investors. And armed with complete belief, she did the "impossible" -she got a trailer manufacturer to advance her a limited inventory with no money down.
  • 29. 28 Last year she sold over $1,000,000 worth of trailers. "Next year," she says, "I expect to gross over $2,000,000." Belief, strong belief, triggers the mind to figure ways and means and how-to. And believing you can succeed makes others place confidence in you. HOW TO DEVELOP THE POWER OF BELIEF Here are the three guides to acquiring and strengthening the power of belief: 1. Think success, don't think failure. At work, in your home, substitute success thinking for failure thinking. When you face a difficult situation, think, ''I'll win," not 'I Will probably lose." When you compete with someone else, think, "I'm equal to the best," not "I'm outclassed." When an opportunity appears, think "I can do it," never "I can't." Let the master thought "I will succeed" dominate your thinking process. Thinking success conditions your mind to create plans that produce success. Thinking failure does the exact opposite. Failure thinking conditions the mind to think other thoughts that produce failure. 2. Remind yourself regularly that you are better than you think you are. Successful people are not supermen. Success does not require a super intellect. Nor is there anything mystical about success. And success isn't based on luck. Successful people are just ordinary folks who have developed a belief in themselves and what they do. Never-yes, never sell yourself short. 3. Believe Big. The size of your success is determined by the size of your belief. Think little goals and expect little achievements. Think big goals and win big
  • 30. 29 success. Remember this, too! Big ideas and big plans are often easier--certainly no more difficult--than small ideas and small plans. Mr. Ralph J. Cordiner, chairman of the board of the General Electric Company, said this to a leadership conference: "We need from every man who aspires to leadership for himself and his company a determination to undertake a personal program of self-development. Nobody is going to order a man to develop ... Whether a man lags behind or moves ahead in his specialty is a matter of his own personal application. This is something which takes time, work, and sacrifice. Nobody can do it for you." Mr. Cordiner's advice is sound and practical. Live it. Persons who reach the top rungs in business management, selling, engineering, religious work, writing, acting, and in every other pursuit get there by following conscientiously and continuously a plan for self-development and growth. Any training program and that's exactly what this book, is must do three things. It must provide content, the what-to-do. Second, it must supply a method, the how-to-do-it. And third, it must meet the acid test; that is, get results. The what of your personal training program for success is built on the attitudes and techniques of successful people? How do they manage themselves? How? Do they overcome obstacles? How do they earn the respect of others? What sets them apart from the ordinary? How do they think?
  • 31. 30 The how. of your plan for development and growth is a series of concrete guides for action. These are found in each chapter. These guides work. Apply them and see for yourself. What about the most important part of training: results? Wrapped up briefly, conscientious application of the program presented here will bring you success and on a scale that may now look impossible. Broken down into its components, your personal training program for success will bring you a series of rewards: the reward of deeper respect from your family, the reward of admiration from your friends and associates, the reward of feeling useful, of being someone, of having status, the reward of increased income and a higher standard of living. Your training is self-administered. There will be no one standing over your shoulder telling you what to do and how to do it. This book will be your guide, but only you can understand yourself. Only you can command yourself to apply this training. Only you can evaluate your progress. Only you can bring about corrective action should you slip a little? In short, you are going to train yourself to achieve bigger and bigger success. You already have a fully equipped laboratory in which you can work and study. Your laboratory is' all around you. Your laboratory consists of human beings. This laboratory supplies you with every possible example of human action. And there is no limit to what you can learn once you see yourself as a scientist in your own lab. What's more, there is nothing to buy. There is no rent to pay. There are no fees of any kind. You can use this laboratory as much as you like for free.
  • 32. 31 As director of your own laboratory. you will want to do what every scientist does: observe and experiment. Isn't it surprising to you that most people understand so little about why people act as they do even though they are surrounded by people all their lives? Most people are not trained, observers. One important purpose of this book is to help you train yourself to observe, to develop deep insight into human action. You'll want to ask yourself questions like 'Why is John so successful and Tom just getting by?" "Why do some people have many friends and other people have only a few friends?" "Why will people gladly accept what one person tells them but ignore another person who tells them the same thing?" Once trained, you will learn valuable lessons just through the very simple process of observing. Here are two special suggestions to help you make yourself a trained observer. Select for special study the most successful and the most unsuccessful person you know; Then, as the book unfolds, observe how closely your successful friend adheres to the success principles. Notice also how studying the two extremes will help you see the unmistakable wisdom of following the truths outlined in this book. Each contact you make with another person gives you a chance to see success development principles at work. Your objective is to make successful action habitual. The more we practice, the. sooner it becomes second nature to act in the desired way.
  • 33. 32 Most of us have friends who grow things for a hobby. And we've all heard them say something like "It's exciting to watch those plants grow; Just look how they respond to plant food and water. See how much bigger they are today than they were last week." To be sure, it is thrilling to watch what can happen when men cooperate carefully with nature. But it is not one-tenth as fascinating as watching yourself respond to your own carefully administered thought management program. It's fun to feel yourself growing more confident, more effective, and more successful day by day, month by month. Nothing absolutely nothing in this life gives you more satisfaction than allowing you're on the road to success and achievement. And nothing stands as a bigger challenge than making the most of yourself,
  • 34. 33 Thinking Big “Not many people believe that they can move mountains...” Start now, right now, to discover how to make your thinking make magic for you. Start out with this thought of the great philosopher Disraeli: "Life is too short to be little." Where success is concerned, people are not measured in inches or pounds or college degrees, or family background; they are measured by the size of their thinking. How big we think determines the size of our accomplishments. Now let's see how we can enlarge our thinking. Ever ask yourself, "What is my greatest weakness?" Probably the greatest human weakness is self-deprecation that is, selling oneself short. Self-deprecation shows through in countless ways. John sees a job advertisement in the paper; it's exactly what he would like. But he does nothing about it because he thinks, ―I‘ m not good enough for that job, so why bother?" or Jim wants a date with Joan, but he doesn't call her because he thinks he wouldn't rate with her.
  • 35. 34 Philosophers for thousands of years have issued good advice: Know thyself. But most people, it seems, interprets this suggestion to mean Know only thy negative self. Most self-evaluation consists of making long mental lists of one's faults, shortcomings, inadequacies. It's well to know our inabilities, for this shows us areas in which we can improve. But if we know only our negative characteristics, ·we are in a mess. Our value is small. Here is an exercise to help you measure your true size. This technique has been used in training programs for executives and sales personnel. It works. 1. Determine your five chief assets. Invite some objective friend to help possibly your wife, your superior, a professor some intelligent person who will give you an honest opinion. (Examples of assets frequently listed are education, experience, technical skills, appearance, well-adjusted home life, attitudes, personality, and initiative.) 2. Next, under each asset, write the names of three persons you know who have achieved large success but who do not have this asset to as great a degree as you. When you've completed this exercise, you will find you outrank many successful people on at least one asset.
  • 36. 35 There is only one conclusion you can honestly reach: You're bigger than you think. So, fit your thinking to your true size. Think as big as you really are! Never, never, never sell yourself short! Here is something very basic: We do not think in words and phrases. We think only in pictures and/or images. Words are the raw materials of thought. When spoken or read, that amazing instrument, the mind, automatically converts words and phrases into mind pictures. Each word, each phrase creates a slightly different mind picture. If someone tells you, 'Jim bought a new split-level," you see one picture. But if you're told, 'Jim bought a new ranch house," you see another picture. The mind pictures we see are modified by the kinds of words we use to name things and describe things. Look at it this way. When you speak or write, you are, in a sense, a projector showing movies in the minds of others. And the pictures you create determine how you and others react. Suppose you tell a group of people, "I'm sorry to report we've failed." What do these people see? They see defeat and all the disappointment and grief the word "failed" conveys. Now suppose you said instead, 'Here's a new approach that I think will work." They would feel encouraged, ready to try again. FOUR WAYS TO DEVELOP THE BIG THINKER'S VOCABULARY Here are four ways to help you develop a big thinker's vocabulary.
  • 37. 36 1. Use big, positive, cheerful words and phrases to describe how you feel. When someone asks, "How do you feel today?" and you respond with an ''I'm tired (I have a headache, I wish it were Saturday, I don't feel so good),"you actually make yourself feel worse. Practice this: it's a very simple point, but it has tremendous power. Every time someone asks you, "How are you)" or "How are you feeling today?" respond with a 'Just wonderful! thanks, and you)" or say "Great" or "Fine." Say you feel wonderful at every possible opportunity, and you will begin to feel wonderful and bigger, too. Become known as a person who always feels ·great. It wins friends. 2. Use bright, cheerful, favorable words and phrases to describe other people. Make it a rule to have a big, positive word for all your .friends and associates. When you and someone else are discussing an absent third party, be sure you compliment him with big words and phrases like "He's really a fine fellow;" "They tell me he's working out wonderfully well." Be extremely careful to avoid the petty cut-him-down language. Sooner or later third parties hear what's been said, and then such talk only cuts you down. 3. Use positive language to encourage others. Compliment people personally at every opportunity, everyone you know craves praise. Have a special good word for your wife or husband every day. Notice and compliment the people who work with you. Praise, sincerely administered, is a success tool. Use it! Use it again and again and again. Compliment people on their appearance, their work; their achievements, their families.
  • 38. 37 4. Use positive words to outline plans to others. When people hear something like this: "Here is some good news. We ·face a genuine opportunity ... ―their minds start to sparkle. But when they hear something like "Whether we like it or not, we've got a job to do," the mud movie is dull and boring, and they react accordingly. Promise victory and watch eyes light up. Promise victory and win support. Build castles, don't dig graves! SEE WHAT CAN BE, NOT JUST WHAT IS Big thinkers train themselves to see not just what is but what can be. Here are is an example to illustrate this point. 1. What gives real estate value? A highly successful Realtor who specializes in rural property shows what can be done if we train ourselves to see something where little or nothing presently exists. "Most of the rural property around here," my friend began, "is run-down and not very attractive. I'm successful because I don't try to sell my prospects a farm as it is. "I develop my entire sales plan around what the farm can be. Simply telling the prospect, 'The farm has XX acres of bottom land and xx acres of woods and is XX miles from town doesn't stir him up and make him want to, buy it. But when you show him a concrete plan for doing something with the farm, he's just about sold. Here, let me show you what I mean."
  • 39. 38 He opened his briefcase and pulled out a file. "This farm," he said, "is a new listing with us. It's like a lot of them. It's forty-three miles from the center of the metropolitan area, the house is run-down, and the place hasn't been farmed in five years. Now, here's what I've done. I spent two full days on the place last week, just studying it. I walked over the place several times. I looked at neighboring farms. I studied the location of the farm with respect to existing and planned highways. I asked myself, 'What's this farm good for?' "I came up with three possibilities. Here they are." He showed them to me. Each plan was neatly typed and looked quite comprehensive. One plan suggested converting the farm into a riding stable. The plan showed why the idea was sound: a growing city, more love for the outdoors, more money for recreation, good roads. 'The plan also showed how the farm could support a sizable number of horses so that the revenue from the rides would be largely clear. The whole riding stable idea was very thorough, very convincing. The plan was so clear and convincing; I could "see" a dozen couples riding horseback through the trees. In similar fashion, this enterprising salesman developed a second thorough plan for a tree farm and a third plan for a combination tree and poultry farm. "Now when I talk about my prospects, I won't have to convince them that the farm is a good buy as it is. I help them to see a picture of the farm changed into a moneymaking proposition.
  • 40. 39 "Besides selling more farms and selling them faster, my method of selling the property for what it can pay off in another way:] can sell a farm at a higher price than my competitors. People naturally pay more for acreage and an idea than they do for just acreage. Because of this, more people want to list their farms with me and my commission on each sale is larger. The moral is this: Look at things not as they are, but as they can be. Visualization adds value to everything. A big thinker always visualizes what can be done in the future. He isn't stuck with the present. Here is how you can develop your power to see what can be, not just what is. I call these the "practice adding value" exercises. 1. Practice adding value to things. Remember the real estate example. Ask yourself, "What can I do to 'add value' to this room or this house or this business?" Look for ideas to make things worth more. A thing whether it is a vacant lot, a house, or a business has value in proportion to the ideas for using it. 2. Practice adding value to people. As you move higher and higher in the world of success, more and more of your job becomes "people development." Ask, "What can I do to 'add value' to my subordinates? What can I do to help them to become more effective?" Remember, to bring out the best in a person, you must first visualize his best.
  • 41. 40 3. Practice adding value to yourself. Conduct a daily interview with yourself. Ask, "What can I do to make myself more valuable today?" Visualize yourself not as you are but as you can be. Then specific ways for attaining your potential value will suggest themselves. Just try and see. Many, many potentially powerful people let petty, small, insignificant things block their way to achievement. Let's look at an example. WHAT DOES IT TAKE 10 MAKE A GOOD SPEECH? Just about everyone wishes he had the "ability" to do a first-class job of speaking in public. But most people don't get their wish. Most folks are lousy public speakers. Why? The reason is simple: most people concentrate on the small, trivial things of speaking at the expense of the big, important things. In preparing to give a talk, most people give themselves a host of mental instructions, like 'I've got to remember to stand straight," "Don't move around and don't use your hands, "Don't let the audience see you use your notes," "Remember, don't make mistakes in grammar, especially don't say 'for he and I,' say 'for him and me,'' "Be sure your tie is straight," "Speak loud, but not too loud," and so on and on. Now, what happens when the speaker gets up to speak? He's scared because he's given himself a terrific list of things not to do. He gets confused in his talk and finds himself silently asking, "Have I made a mistake?" He is, in brief, a flop. He's a flop because he concentrated on the petty, trivial, relatively unimportant
  • 42. 41 qualities of a good speaker and failed to concentrate on the big things that make a good speaker: knowledge of what he's going to talk about and an intense desire to tell it to other people. The real test of a speaker does not do he stand straight or did he make any mistakes in grammar, but rather did the audience get the points he wanted to put across. Most of our top speakers have petty defects; some of them even have unpleasant voices. Some of the most sought-after speakers in America would flunk a speech course taught by the old negative, "don't do this and don't do that," method. Yet all these successful public speakers have one thing in common: They have something to say and they feel a bunting desire for other people to hear it. Don't let concern with trivia keep you from speaking successfully in public. Practice these three procedures to help yourself think about trivialities: 1. Keep your eyes focused on the big objective. Many times, we're like the salesman who, failing to make the sale, reports to his manager, "Yes, but I sure convinced the customer he was wrong." In selling, the big objective is winning sales, not arguments. In marriage, the big objective is peace, happiness, tranquility-not winning quarrels or saying "I could have told you so,"
  • 43. 42 In working with employees, the big objective is developing their full potential; not making issues out of their minor errors. In living with neighbors, the big objective is mutual respect and friendship- not seeing if you can have their dog impounded because once in a while it barks at night. Paraphrasing some military lingo, it is much better to lose a battle and win the war than to win a battle and lose the war. Resolve to keep your eyes on the big ball. 2. Ask "Is it really important?", Before becoming negatively excited, just ask yourself, "Is it important enough for me to get all worked up about?" There is no better way to avoid frustration over petty matters than to use this medicine. At least 90 percent of quarrels and feuds would never take place if we just faced troublesome situations with "Is this really important?" 3. Don't fall into the triviality trap. In milking speeches, solving problems, counseling employees, think of those things that really matter, things that make the difference. Don't become submerged under surface issues. Concentrate on important things.

In the middle and right-hand columns are comparisons of how petty thinkers and big thinkers see the same situation. Check yourself Then decide, which will get me where I want to go? • 46. 45 Design Thinking “Design thinking is a human-centered approach to innovation that draws from the designer's toolkit to integrate the needs of people, the possibilities of technology, and the requirements for business success.” Design thinking utilizes elements from the designer's toolkit like empathy and experimentation to arrive at innovative solutions. Your thoughts are your link with the infinite. It is said that thought rules the world. Ralph Waldo Emerson said; ―Thought are things. What you feel you attract; what you imagine you become. Emerson also said: ―Man is what he thinks all day long‖. Learn to respect your thoughts. Remember that your happiness, success, peace of mind and accomplishments in life are determined by your habitual thinking. You are thinking in the true sense of the word when you are thinking from the standpoint of universal principle and eternal truths. They never change – are the same yesterday, today and forever. A mathematician thinks from the standpoint of the principles of mathematics and not from the ephemeral opinions of men.
  • 47. 46 You are not truly thinking when you are reacting to the headlines in local newspapers, radio propaganda or from the standpoint of tradition, creed, dogma, environmental conditions or circumstances. If there is any fear, worry or anxiety in your thoughts, you are not really thinking. There is no fear or negation of any kind of true thinking. Fear thoughts result when you make external things causative, which is the big lie. Externals are effects, not causes. The cause is your thought and feeling. Every external condition or circumstance is subject to change. A few weeks ago, I met a young college man who had been associated with a firm for over ten years. He explained that he had never received a promotion or increase in salary, although he had witnessed other men in the organization with less knowledge of the business and less education steadily move up the ladder with substantial salary increments and added prestige. This man was experiencing and producing according to the law of averages. The law of averages is simply the mind of the masses of humanity, which, for the most part, believes in failure, lack, limitation and misfortune of all kinds. This mass mind is governing in a great part of traditional beliefs; for this reason, it is mostly negative. This young man was hard on himself. I explained to him clearly that if he did not think for himself, he would automatically be a victim of the mass mind, which impinges on the receptive medium of his mind and does all his thinking for him, resulting in negation, lack with the misery of all kinds.
  • 48. 47 He began to activate his conscious mind spiritually, which soon became a low of action at his subconscious level. He quickly realized the vast difference between spiritual thinking and average (mass) thinking. He reiterated this truth‘s several times a day, making sure that he did not subsequently deny what he consciously affirmed: ―Promotion is mine. Success is mine now. Right action is mine now. Wealth is mine now. By day and by night I am advancing, moving forward, growing and Prospering Spiritually, Mentally, Materially, Socially and Financially. I know that I become what I affirm, sink down into my subconscious mind – like seeds, grow after their kind. I water these seeds (ideas) frequently during the day with faith and expectancy. I give thanks for the joy of the answered prayer.‖ The young man disciplined his thought-life. Whenever thoughts of fear lack of criticism of self-doubt came to his mind, he would supplant the negative thought instantaneously. After a while, the negative thoughts lost all momentum and today (three months later) he is executive vice-president of the corporation. He realizes now that he promoted himself and his postulates created his destiny. Scientists tell us that every eleven months we have a ‗new body‘. This man had changed his entire mental and emotional outlook on life. He became interested in spiritual truths and began leading an upright life. Therefore, the man who has
  • 49. 48 committed all the crimes no longer existed. There was to be no such man anymore. The Life Principle (God) never punishes or condemns; man condemns and punishes himself by misuse of the laws of mind. When he forgives himself and uses the law righteously through right thinking, right feeling, and right action, there is an automatic response of the subconscious mind is accordance with the new mental pattern and the past is forgotten and remembered no more. A new beginning is a new end, for the beginning and the end is the same. Begin a new life with faith, confidence, love and goodwill to all and you know the end will be glorious and wonderful. Action Exercises 1. Resolve today to think and act like wealthy people. Practice the ideas in this chapter 2. Select one habit that you think can help you to develop the mindset, the self-concept, of wealthy people, and work
  • 50. 49 Visualization “To accomplish great things we must first dream, then visualize, then plan… believe… act!” What you think, you become. What you concentrate your attention on, you can attract. What you visualize, you can accomplish. Visualization can help you to direct your thoughts and to steer all your actions in one direction. It will help you to live your life with more clarity, focus, and purpose. Visualization is, therefore, a fantastic technique to utilize the creative force of your thoughts. It enables you to direct this powerful force to improve every aspect of your life. Every single individual that is successful visualizes, be it consciously or unconsciously, to attract success and prosperity into their lives. The following will introduce you to the magnificent power of creative visualization. It will show you what visualization is and how you can use it to affect beneficial change in your life. You‘ll also find in the following some easy visualization techniques to achieve the best results. Let‘s use creative visualization to transform our lives!
  • 51. 50 Creative visualization is a powerful technique. It can be seen as a kind of rehearsal that you repeatedly conduct in your mind. In doing so, it helps you to use your imagination to affect positive changes in your life. If applied correctly, the power of visualization can transform your life. It will aid you in attracting to your life what you‘ve ever dreamt of. Visualization, however, is not magic. It is not that you visualize something and it will magically appear. Instead, visualization helps you to lay the important fundamentals for the accomplishment of your dreams. It has a profound impact on your subconscious. And this is where the true power of visualization starts to kick in. Visualization influences the subconscious mind beneficially, which in turn enables you to actively accomplish your dreams and wishes. In this sense, visualization will not make things appear miraculously out of nothingness. Instead, it will enable you to accomplish these things on your own account. Visualization creates the right mental beliefs and attitudes that help you to do whatever necessary to accomplish your aims. It can entirely change your thinking processes and helps you in erasing self-limiting thoughts. If done correctly, visualization can attract the right circumstances into your life. It has the power to change your environment and to invite certain opportunities. By intensively visualizing specific objects or situations, you lay the foundation to make things happen. But it certainly is not magic. It always requires action on your part. But if you are willing to combine visualization with the diligent pursuit of your dreams, you will unleash the creative power of your thoughts.
  • 52. 51 And it all is accomplished by applying natural mental laws every one of us can use. WHAT IS CREATIVE VISUALIZATION? Visualization is the process of purposefully creating intense mental imagery in order to affect beneficial psychological changes. It can be considered as a form of rehearsal that is continuously performed in the mind. By visualizing vivid sceneries of the accomplishment of certain goals, you condition your subconscious mind to act upon it. The reason for this is that the subconscious mind is unable to tell the difference between a real-world experience and something that is just imagined, as scientific research suggests. By means of constant repetition, the subconscious starts to accept the visualized thought. When this happens, mindsets, beliefs, habits and behaviors are changed accordingly. As a result, every thought and action are directed towards the accomplishment of the specific aim. Furthermore, the beliefs, mindsets and mental strength necessary for reaching your goals are established within you. They will allow you to keep pursuing your goal, even when confronted with difficulties. At the same time, visualization has a beneficial influence on your neural pathways. By continuously visualizing certain actions, the behavior will feel more familiar once it‘s actually performed. The reason for this lies in the fact that real-life action and visualization activate large parts of precisely the same neural networks. Even more surprising, scientists found that the sole act of visualizing a
  • 53. 52 certain exercise has helped athletes to attain almost the same strength gains like someone who performed the exercise in real life. HOW DOES VISUALIZATION WORK AND WHY? Visualization greatly influences the subconscious mind. This is due to the fact that the subconscious cannot distinguish between something that is intensively imagined and real-life events. As a result, if you repeatedly visualize certain thoughts, the subconscious mind will start to accept them. It will begin to act upon the visualized suggestions, which in turn starts to manifest changes in your life. Visualization can, therefore, assist you in quickly establishing the necessary mindsets, beliefs, habits and actions that help you in accomplishing what you‘ve visualized. It further enables you to develop the same confidence that usually could only be acquired by regularly experiencing a sense of achievement in real life. Visualization can, therefore, increase your confidence and encourages you to believe in yourself, which increases the likelihood that you will pursue your goals until realized. This is the magnificent way visualization works. But why does it work? While scientific research has countless times shown that visualization works, it struggles with explaining why exactly it works. Yes, scientists understand that visualization conditions neurological pathways and influences the subconscious
  • 54. 53 mind, but they have great difficulties in explaining why this has such a powerful impact on a person‘s life. One possible explanation lies in the tremendous power of thoughts. Visualization allows us to apply specific mental laws that govern the creative power of thoughts. By visualizing, we focus on and intensify specific thoughts. Thoughts are made of energy, and by focusing intensively on a specific idea, we nurture it with attention and emotional energy. This process can affect internal changes that are reflected in the world around us. We can, therefore, change our reality by changing the way we think. Why exactly this works is up for speculation, but it works. HOW TO VISUALIZE? The process of visualization is really simple. It does not even take longer than five for 10 minutes. However, it takes dedication and regular practice to manifest results. This is the central aspect many people struggle with. They visualize for two of three days but give up quickly as they haven‘t become millionaires. Be patient and stick with it, then you will see results. In the beginning, it is important to find something that you want. Preferably, it is a meaningful and realistic goal. Once you‘ve found something that you want to attract into your life, the visualization can begin. Seat yourself somewhere comfortable. Make sure that your environment is quiet and free of distractions. Then close your eyes and start imagining in great detail
  • 55. 54 how you accomplish your goal. See yourself having or experiencing whatever it is you desire. Repeat this movie in your mind again and again. Keep these guidelines in mind:  Make it seem as if it were real. The key to visualization is to intensively imagine how it actually feels like to be successful or to have what you want. It is not enough to simply create mental images. Even though visualization is described as the creation of mental imagery, it does not consist only of creating visual images. Instead, it is important to get all your senses involved. Visualization can only be truly effective if you creatively manage to use all your senses. Don‘t just see yourself victorious, feel it. Feel the excitement, the joy, and happiness. Feel how the adrenaline rushes through your system and how your heart beats. Feel, hear and smell how it feels like to have finally accomplished what you‘ve desired for so long. The goal with visualization is to create such an intense mental image that it seems as if it were real.  Don‘t just watch, participate. When visualizing, many people make the mistake of observing their actions from a third-person perspective. They see themselves accomplishing their goals, but not from the first-person perspective. It is as if they‘re watching a movie, without being engaged in it. It is important to keep in mind that visualization must always be done from the first-person perspective. Otherwise, you simply imagine seeing someone accomplishing all these things you‘re dreaming of. For this reason, participate and engage in your visualization. Don‘t be an observer, be the focal point of the whole movie.
  • 56. 55  Be specific. In general, it‘s advisable to visualize specific goals. Seeing yourself getting a promotion might not produce quick results. Instead, try to visualize how exactly you‘re going to earn this promotion. Visualize every single step you‘re going to take on the path to a better career. See the actions you are going to take.  Practice regularly. Mastering the skills of visualization takes time. Many beginners struggle with creating and maintaining the mental imagery. It is, therefore, important to be concentrated while visualizing. Refocus your attention whenever your mind drifts off. At the same time, be aware that it takes practice to manifest results. Only visualizing a goal that is difficult to obtain once or twice will most likely not do the trick.  Be patient. As a rule of thumb, visualize realistic things and keep visualizing until whatever it is you want has come into your life. If it isn‘t there yet, it requires more time and effort. If you follow these guidelines, you will see results. The more intense and real the visualized imagery feels, the better can you trick your mind into believing it‘s real. 3 Easy Visualization Techniques There are many powerful visualization techniques you can use. If you wish, simply use the basic visualization practice described above (the technique is called ―receptive visualization‖). But if you are looking for some other
  • 57. 56 techniques to spice things up, the following is for you. Use these powerful and proven visualization techniques to attract what you desire into your life. Treasure mapping. This powerful technique creates, as the name indicates, a treasure map that shows the reality you seek to create. It‘s a large physical picture that outlines in great detail how you envision your future. The map can be created by drawing it, but you can also use Photoshop/Gimp or even pictures from magazines. While you spend time creating the trash a map, your mind will visualize your dreams over and over. And once the treasure map is finished, you can use it to maintain a high level of motivation simply by regularly reminding yourself of your dreams and ambitions. Altered memory visualization. Instead of focusing on the desired state in the future, this technique specializes in helping you to better cope with the past. Basically, the technique seeks to assist you in modifying past memories. In doing so, you can actively create a more positive memory of what happened. The goal of this technique does not lie in changing the past or making things undone. It‘s also not meant to suppress bad memories. Instead, the technique is designed to help you resolve negative memories. It will help you to let go of the pain and resentment you associate with the memory. If you manage to change how you think about the past, you can build a brighter future. Visualizing while meditation. If you know how to meditate, you can make use of it by beginning to visualize after you‘re meditating for a certain while. It will help you to begin the visualization once you‘ve reached a deep level of relaxation. Your concentration will also be much higher, which helps you to focus more intensively on your visualization.
  • 58. 57 VISUALIZE SUCCESS Visualizing success can be extraordinarily powerful. It‘s something that top performers habitually do before actively pursuing their goals. Many of them visualize in greatest detail how they intend to succeed, long before they start taking action. Visualizing success can provide impressive results if done correctly. Step 1. Break the road to success into smaller segments. Unless you intend to visualize yourself succeeding in one particular situation, it‘s always advisable to divide your entire plan of becoming successful in life into smaller sections. Step 2. Once you have smaller segments, create goals for each segment. For instance, a young person that dreams of becoming a successful lawyer or a renowned judge will first have to successfully graduate from high school (segment 1), then attend university (segment 2) and so on. It makes, therefore, sense to create specific goals for the time during high school first. Step 3. Begin visualizing the outcome of the first sub-goal. When visualizing success, it‘s important to create an intensely detailed experience. Visualize every little detail. Don‘t just picture yourself succeeding, picture your entire environment. See how the people around you react. Visualize in great detail what it feels like to succeed. Picture every action of the entire situation. Visualize the whole event from beginning to end. Step 4. You can spend visualizing each goal for about 10 minutes, or longer. After you‘ve finished visualizing one goal, start with the next one.
  • 59. 58 Affirmations "An Affirmation opens the door. It's a beginning point on the path to change" Today the power and effectiveness of affirmations are not a theory, but indeed a truthful fact, that nobody can deny. Even scientists have agreed that we can influence our subconscious mind and our deepest beliefs, followed by a change in our attitude and behavior, therefore, we can make changes in our material world. If we constantly repeat the same thing over, and over, and over again, our mind makes an adaptation, and eventually, starts to believe that the thing we constantly repeat is an ultimate truth. By learning to write and use affirmations the right way we can change every aspect of our life which brings us to the fact that we indeed have a complete control over everything in our lives. What could be possibly a better reason for changing the way you think and feel about happiness, relationships and love – of your closed ones and yourself?
  • 60. 59 THE MISUNDERSTANDING OF AFFIRMATIONS – BEWARE! Many people still believe in the fact that just by chanting a string of words they can influence other people and therefore change their own life. This does not work that way. First of all, with affirmations, you never influence other people. You influence only yourself and the way how you think and feel which produces the vibration you‘re in. When you change the way, you feel, instantly you are changing the vibration and the aura that surrounds your body. When you do this, you start to attract things in correlation with your vibration which in turn gives you the results you want, but it never changes the aura of other people. So don‘t think that by writing affirmations about some person, you can change that person, or attract him or her into your life. Or perhaps, to bring your family together. That‘s an illusion… Instead, focus on changing yourself and that will lead to an even better reward. You will start to think, feel, act and behave differently, which in return, changes the kind of people and circumstances that will be attracted in your life. Let‘s say you really want to attract your soul mate and there is a woman or a man that you believe is that person. All you need to do is read and feel the affirmations and change the vibration you are in.
  • 61. 60 If they are in the same vibration, then you will really attract them and the universe will bring you what you want… If they are not, then you will attract somebody else even better. Remember, you are not trying to change something outside of yourself… Instead, you are changing your inner world. You start to live from inwards towards outwards, from the world within to the world without. You start to see the world from a different perspective, you feel and experience different everything and everyone, while in fact, the world hasn‘t changed a single bit – you have! The art of the spoken word is critical in crafting our futures. Find below some of the common affirmation which can be used daily. 1. • 64. 63 BOTTOM LINE… There is no doubt that affirmations have the power and potential to change every aspect of your life. However, no amount of mechanical reading will do you any good. You must internalize them and put real power and emotions in your voice while reading them. Be persistent! Do not give up although it might seem from time to time that nothing is happening. Eventually, you will reprogram your subconscious mind and your entire perception will be changed. You will raise your vibrations to such levels, that the universe will reward you with the finest gifts and blessings you could possibly experience in a lifetime.
  • 65. 64 Motivation “Be Strong because things will get better. It may be stormy now, but it never rains forever” Most people think that motivation for them is out of reach. They have an average job at an average company. This chapter is intended to give people hope by shining the light on people who are in average regular jobs but are amazing. We will be discussing on the few stories of people in ordinary jobs, but despite that fact, they decided NOT to be ordinary. They performed their jobs brilliantly, exceptionally, differently and exceeded everyone's expectations of what that job "should" be every day. More importantly, everyone around them knows it, sees it and acknowledges it. We should understand that for you to be motivated you cannot learn it from a seminar or from your manager. Motivation always comes from within you. You are going to learn on how to get motivated and that‘s the key. I wanted to narrate a story which I read from the book ‗Mo‘, it‘s about a shoe shiner who is shining shoes in an airport. Mr. Willie Morris is the shoe shiner at the airport in Florida. If he is not busy shinning a customer‘s shoes at his stand, you can count on him to be walking around saying hello to travelers on their way to their boarding gates or having a warm conversation with an old time frequent flying customer.
  • 66. 65 Willie Morris has worked for Pernell‘s super Shoe Shine Company for nineteen years. Would be referring him has Morris in this entire story. Whenever a customer pass his stand on their to the boarding gate he would always say hello. He would always end each of the short conversations with, ‗Always a pleasure to talk to you‖. While polishing the shoes, he always talks about what he is doing to keep your shoes looking great, what he is using, and why he is using it on your shoes. I learned from him that shining shoes is like painting a wall that has wallpaper on it; you have to remove the old polish before you put on the new polish and remember to shine and seal them too. Mr. Morris says, ―This is really important if your shoes are exposed to the cold and if they get wet.‖ I learned a lot about why I need to take care of my shoes and why Mr. Morris is the one to do it. I also learned one the reasons Mr. Morris keeps on talking to his customers: ‖If I don‘t talk to them, they won‘t talk to me.‖ Most people just watch as their shoes are being shined, read the paper, or just sit there doing nothing. Mr. Morris makes it entertaining, fun, and educational all while he is giving you the best darn shoeshine you will ever have-ever! No wonder everyone keeps coming back. Before 9/11 when non-traveling passengers could go beyond security to the boarding gate area where Pernell‘s Super Shoe Shine stand is, many locals would bring bags of shoes to Mr. Morris to shine and then pick them up on another day. Mr. Morris had lockers at his shoeshine stand where he could secure store his customer‘s shoes for them. In those days, there were hardly any places to get a really good shoeshine other than airports, and if you think about it, this is truer then every today.
  • 67. 66 Mr. Morris tells me that a lot of the younger guys these days just wear their shoes unpolished and torn up. Come on guys, get with the program! Many of his ―big, regular frequent flyers‖ will sit to have the shoes they have on shined and also a pair or two that are in their carry-ons. Smart!. If the fashion of people wearing sneakers has affected his shoeshine business, and he said, ―No, my main customers are business travelers who wear leather shoes or boots and some wear synthetic rubber of plastic, and they need to be conditioned too.‖ Who knew? It is obvious that Mr. Morris loves what he does. He says, ―My customers depend on me being here when they come through. So I am.‖ He works twelve hours a day, five days a week, every week. Mr. Morris says hello to everyone that passes by Pernell‘s Super Shoe Shine stand in the Fort Lauderdale airport. He is a true professional, and even of je has shine your shoes just one time, he will remember your shoes, he will probably remember exactly what king they were, and most of all he will always remember you. He makes you feel like his very best customer, always. Notes 1. Make everyone feel like your best customer. They will reward you with their ongoing business. 2. Remember people’s faces. Who doesn‘t like to be remembered? 3. Don’t be silent when selling. Keep talking and telling your customer whet they need to know about what you are doing. Teach and they will remember.
  • 68. 67 4. Look. If you are taking care of someone‘s hair, you look at their haircut, and if you are taking care of someone‘s stocks, you look at their stock portfolio. So if you are taking care of someone‘s shoes, remember to look at their feet. 5. Find your niche. Offer a service or product that is needed by consumers and hard to find and be the best at it. 6.Out with the old. Remember to have the old shoe polish removed before you put on the new, and always seal, too. 7. Start strong and finish strong. Have a great, smiling ―hello‖ and an even better ―good bye‖ (Like Mr. Morris says, ―It is always a pleasure to talk to you.‖). This can become your signature and people will remember you for it. Here is another interesting story which I wanted to share with you on the similar subject. A popular speaker started off a seminar by holding up a $20 bill. A crowd of 200 had gathered to hear him speak. He asked, ―Who would like this $20 bill?‖ 200 hands went up. He said, ―I am going to give this $20 to one of you but first, let me do this.‖ He crumpled the bill up. He then asked, ―Who still wants it?‖ All 200 hands were still raised.
  • 69. 68 ―Well,‖ he replied, ―What if I do this?‖ Then he dropped the bill on the ground and stomped on it with his shoes. He picked it up and showed it to the crowd. The bill was all crumpled and dirty. ―Now who still wants it?‖ All the hands still went up. ―My friends, I have just shown you a very important lesson. No matter what I did to the money, you still wanted it because it did not decrease in value. It was still worth $20. Many times, in our lives, life crumbles us and grinds us into the dirt. We make bad decisions or deal with poor circumstances. We feel worthless. But no matter what has happened or what will happen, you will never lose your value. You are special – Don‘t ever forget it! One of the most commonly debated and researched fields in the business world is motivation. Why do people do what they do and how can we motivate others to do what we need them to do in the business place? If we understand how and why people are motivated, we can encourage them to be their best and do their best at work. The more that people are motivated to be successful and achieve the goals set for them, the more their confidence in their own abilities will grow as well, which can, in turn, make them even more motivated. But you can also work on your own confidence and motivation in the workplace in order to achieve your goals and intentions. When people are, confident and motivated at work, there are many positive factors that result in the workplace:
  • 70. 69 Once upon a time a daughter complained to her father that her life was miserable and that she didn‘t know how she was going to make it. She was tired of fighting and struggling all the time. It seemed just as one problem was solved, another one soon followed. Her father, a chef, took her to the kitchen. He filled three pots with water and placed each on a high fire. Once the three pots began to boil, he placed potatoes in one pot, eggs in the second pot, and ground coffee beans in the third pot. He then let them sit and boil, without saying a word to his daughter. The daughter, moaned and impatiently waited, wondering what he was doing. After twenty minutes, he turned off the burners. He took the potatoes out of the pot and placed them in a bowl. He pulled the eggs out and placed them in a bowl. He then ladled the coffee out and placed it in a cup. Turning to her he asked. ―Daughter, what do you see?‖ ―Potatoes, eggs, and coffee,‖ she hastily replied. ―Look closer,‖ he said, ―and touch the potatoes.‖ She did and noted that they were soft. He then asked her to take an egg and break it. After pulling off the

He then explained that the potatoes, the eggs and coffee beans had each faced the same adversity– the boiling water. However, each one reacted differently. The potato went in strong, hard, and unrelenting, but in boiling water, it became soft and weak. The egg was fragile, with the thin outer shell protecting its liquid interior until it was put in the boiling water. Then the inside of the egg became hard. She also goes around informing all her friends and family members that how she is not able to find the perfect man; every time she says this Belief reinforces her in the negative path. This belief is going to steer into action that the perfect man doesn’t exist they’re all married and she’s not going to take committed action to extract the results. • 77. 76 A further thought on the dangers of negative messages, as explored. There we were talking about the difference it makes to rephrase a message in a positive way. But there‘s more. Certain words have an extra powerful negative impact, and it‘s worth sensitizing your awareness of them. I wanted to talk about ‗power words‘ or ‗trigger words‘, meaning those words which typically generate a powerful subconscious response in the reader. There‘s nothing mysterious about these words – ‗agree‘ might be an example – but they do have an impact, usually not noticed by the reader. We‘ll talk about these positive power words another time, but there are negative power words too. And because it‘s so easy to use them, even when you‘re trying to convey a positive message, it‘s important to know what they are. Here‘s a selection: can‘t won‘t didn‘t urgent difficulties problem mistake, unfortunately, judgment rigid strict extremely difficult impossible attempt try maybe unimportant never always ought should must You might think these are obviously negative, but look closer. Clearly saying ‗won‘t‘ sounds negative, but have you ever written ‗that won‘t be a problem‘? You‘ve got two negative power words right there, and you‘re trying to be reassuring and positive. What about writing to a customer to explain that something has gone wrong but that you are going to make this up to them – have you ever begun by writing ‗Unfortunately…‘? That‘s exactly the wrong way to start. You‘re priming them
  • 78. 77 to feel bad. Instead, begin on a positive initial note. ‗Thanks for your recent order‘, for example. Or ‗We always aim, to be honest, and open with our customers…‘ You think that‘s manipulative? It‘s only manipulative if smiling at someone is manipulative: it‘s simply sending out a positive message of intent. How about ‗strict‘? Sounds off-putting on its own, but have you ever written something like ‗we operate strict standards to ensure we never let our customers down‘? A sentence like that is meant positively but is packed with subconscious negative trigger words. It turns out that subconsciously people generally don‘t like absolutes – we don‘t like ‗never‘, but we don‘t like ‗always‘ either. Perhaps it makes us feel hemmed in. ‗Strict‘ is something similar. It just sounds oppressive, even if you mean it positively 'Ought‘, ‗should‘ and ‗must‘ are similar – they‘re coercive. Obvious when you step back, but not obvious when you‘re trying to urge your audience to take up an offer. ‗If you‘re looking for a new mortgage, you should take a look at our rates‘. Sounds innocuous, but it contains coercion. And people don‘t like being told what to do. The more you can avoid negative power words, the more likely you are to get a positive response. And if this sounds like a trick or a formula that really good communicators don‘t need to bother with, then consider this: however naturally talented you are, learning to do anything more effectively (tennis, for example),
  • 79. 78 starts by paying conscious attention to certain habits, and then consciously changing them. And the habit of using these words that bring a little charge of negative energy is one that‘s worth changing.
