EXT. WHYDAH GALLY SHIP. DAY
The WHYDAH CREW surrounds an injured OLIVIER as NATHANIAL
helps him down onto a crate. OLIVIER face remains
expressionless, his leg lifted onto a barrel as he treats his
leg himself.
NATHANIAL
I told ye! Letting a woman aboard
gives us nothing, but bad luck.
HENRY
She did save me, if it weren't for
BONNIE-
NATHANIAL
(calmly)
If it weren't for BONNIE, OLIVIER
would not have been shot.
HENRY
I would have died, NATHANIAL.
NATHANIAL
(Scoffs)
They wanted to use you, not kill you,
old man.
HENRY grits his teeth, gradually getting more and more
aggravated.
HENRY
Watch your tone, boy.
CHARLES
Stop this now.
NATHANIAL
I am no boy, I am the only one
speaking sense.
HENRY
(with venom)
You are speaking nonsense and hatred,
ye know nothing.
NATHANIAL's face morphed, an angry expression replacing his
calm one.
HENRY
I understand ye are so selfish and
2.

stupid ye believe lies of
superstition, I suggest you shut up
and listen to the ones that actually
are speaking sense.
Like a switch was flicked in NATHANIAL head, he grabs HENRY
by the throat, face getting redder as his face neared in
HENRY'S face. Every pair of eyes on the ship stare at the
two.
NATHANIAL
Listen here, bilge rat. BONNIE has
doomed us all.
CHARLES
(standing beside the two)
Okay. That is enough
OLIVIER
(in a warning tone)
NATHANIAL.
NATHANIAL releases HENRY and backs up. The whole ship goes
quiet for a moment. His eyes slowly scan the crowd until
BONNIE is in his view.
NATHANIAL
(pointing at BONNIE)
You! Have doomed us all.
All eyes gaze upon BONNIE/EDITH, standing opposite NATHANIAL
behind HENRY. The conflict causes the WHYDAH CREW to start to
whisper and chatter while NATHANIAL's eyes are glued onto
BONNIE.
CHARLES
For the last time, stop this. Any
other Captain would give you forty
lashes... Are we done?
NATHANIAL looks up at CHARLES and for a second his demeanour
shifts, and he looks worried, but the look is gone within a
second regaining his composure replaced by a threatening
glare.
CHARLES
Everyone, get back to work!
The WHYDAH CREW disperses leaving CHARLES, HENRY, NATHANIAL,
EDITH AND OLIVIER.

HELMSMAN
Land Ahoy!
CHARLES gives one last look at NATHANIAL.
CHARLES
Parley?
NATHANIAL doesn't make eye contact with CHARLES, his eyes
still glued onto EDITH's as she shifts uncomfortably.
NATHANIAL
Parley.
CHARLES looks at HENRY. HENRY moves to stand next to EDITH.
HENRY
Parley.
CHARLES
If this happens again-
NATHANIAL and HENRY nod.
There is silence, they all look at each other until EDITH
taps CHARLES on the arm.
CHARLES
Sink Me! Ye made me jump!
EDITH
Sorry! Just, can I come with you.
NATHANIAL scoffs, rolling his eyes as he walks off to help
OLIVIER.
CHARLES
I don't think so-
EDITH
Please, I'm small. I can fit through
things the other pirates can't-
CHARLES
I don't know, BONNIE...
EDITH frowns, then contemplates what to say to convince him.
She grabs his arm and turns to stand in

front of him.
EDITH
(looking side to side)
He's my father too.
EDITH looks at HENRY who is giving her a look. CHARLES seems
conflicted.
EDITH
Let me show you how I am not bad luck!
EDITH grabs a hat from her back pocket and stuffs her hair in
it as she places it on her head.
EDITH
See I'm not a woman! I'm a lad?
CHARLES chuckles.
OLIVIER
Technically she isn't a lass now.
NATHANIAL glares and continues his work while the corners of
OLIVIER's mouth reveal a slight smile.
CHARLES
I know you aren't bad luck and a
smaller sized person would be helpful.
EDITH
Lets go then!
CHARLES, EDITH AND JOHN, gather the equipment needed to
rescue CAPTAIN SAM BELLAMY; Swords, rope with grappling hooks
and lock-picks. JOHN places a pocket knife in EDITH'S hand.
CHARLES
This is our resident Swordsman.
JOHN
A lady must always have a weapon on
her.
EDITH
I like your thinking, Sir.
5.

JOHN
I am aware my voice sounds proper, but
Sir is too formal, JOHN will do just
fine.
EDITH
Well I like your thinking, John, but I
already have one.
EDITH grabs another slightly larger knife out of her pocket
and lifts it up to show JOHN.
JOHN
The more the merrier?
EDITH
Thank you.
EDITH places both the knives in her side holsters.
CHARLES
Ready?
EDITH & JOHN
Ay!
Both CHARLES AND JOHN head out, EDITH grabs a thin long piece
of metal with a hook on the tip and follows them. Before she
can, a hand grabs her by the arm.
NATHANIAL
If it all goes wrong. That's on you.
EDITH pulls her arm from him and follows CHARLES and JOHN off
ship.
EXT. OUTSIDE PRISION. 4PM.
A tall wall stretches to the sky before them. Made of stone,
with vines traveling in and around the cracks between stones.
CHARLES grabs a rope and grappling hook from his bag.
6.

CHARLES
I'll go up first to check and you
follow. If you fall, JOHN will be
right behind you, got it?
EDITH
Got it.
CHARLES swings his grappling hook onto a lantern on the side
of the stone wall near a window and begins to climb. Once at
the window, he checks the surroundings and beckons them to
climb up as well.
EDITH
Here we go.
JOHN is the last one up, a dark, cold hallway awaits them.
Sounds of heels clicking on the floor echo throughout the
halls and the three of them swiftly hide behind a wall.
CHARLES first, EDITH second and JOHN with his weapons at the
ready.
CHARLES
I don't think we should kill anyone
today, keep this quiet and if anyone
sees...
JOHN
Dead men tell no tales.
JOHN nods at CHARLES, while EDITH takes a deep breath, her
hand wrapping around her holster. CHARLES pushes EDITH back
into position as she tries to lean round the corner as the
heel clicks inch closer. EDITH looks up at him, a little
shocked and CHARLES places a finger on his lips in a shushing
notion. TWO MEN walk past, one carrying a long sword and one
with a flame torch. The flames dance on the walls as the men
walk past. CHARLES waits until they walk for 8 more seconds
and then notions for JOHN to go ahead and EDITH to follow
him.
EDITH
Do you know this prison well?
JOHN
I used to be a guard here, the pay is
little however and most guards are not
gentlemen.
7.

CHARLES
Where would SAM be-
JOHN stops and rushes to hide behind a column, CHARLES and
EDITH follows suit, going to a separate column each. A LARGER
GUARD, with two swords this time, walks past the columns.
EDITH feels she is about to sneeze, she sniffs in to try and
prevent it, but that alerts THE LARGER GUARD. JOHN and
CHARLES hold their breath and EDITH holds her mouth and nose
as the guard looks around, 5 seconds pass and the guard walks
away. They all let out a sign of relief. They turn and follow
JOHN who reaches the stairs and descends.
JOHN
(whispering)
He will be down here somewhere, most
likely.
CHARLES
(whispering)
Most likely?
JOHN
I'm sure
CHARLES
You better.
The stairs end and a narrow walkway is ahead of them, one by
one they make their way through, hearing noises from the
prison mates and sounds of bars rattling. There was a dingy
and dank smell among the cells and some prisoners were lying
on the floor, some at the bars. What made CAPTAIN SAM BELLAMY
stand out was the fact that he sat up straight in his old
blue military coat, and faced away from them looking out of
the small window to the courtyard. His long black hair
trailed down his back in a loose ponytail. A quite slender
man, looked like he hadn't eaten much. He did not spot them,
neither did the other prison mates. JOHN stopped and waited
behind a wall, both EDITH and CHARLES followed suit.
JOHN
EDITH, are you able to sneak over to
the sleeping guard and grab his

keys?
EDITH
I think so.
JOHN
You need to know so.
CHARLES
She can do it.
EDITH
I know so.
JOHN
What you need to do, is grab the key
and then pass it to us, without being
noticed.
EDITH
(nodding)
Aye!
EDITH grabs the hook from her bag, she begins to make her way
to the sleeping GUARD around the corner, she crouches and
inches closer extremely slowly. Each time she hears him start
to snore, she takes a step. EDITH starts to realise how
peaceful the man sleeps, she thinks that maybe he has a nice
life and-he stirs. EDITH goes rigid for a second, her heart
pounding. The GUARD starts snoring normally again, the keys
jangling only for a moment, she is just about in-reach and
grabs the hook from her bag slowly. She hooks the keys and
they ease quickly and smoothly off the GUARDS holster. The
same way, maybe slightly quicker, she crouches back towards
JOHN and CHARLES, just at the end she turns towards them
both, looking away from the GUARD and then she feels two big
arms constrict around her neck. CHARLES and JOHN both jump
into action, seeings the GUARD awake, they run to EDITH, the
GUARD drops her as she coughs and wheezes on the floor. JOHN
swiftly stabs the GUARD in the neck, and JOHN grabs the keys
from EDITH checking she is okay. CHARLES sitting beside her
worriedly. Then JOHN heads to SAM BELLAMY'S cell to free him.
THE PRISONERS become louder, shaking the bars in their cells
to be let out.

SAM BELLAMY
Thank you, brother!
CHARLES
We had to get our Captain back
somehow.
JOHN
Captain.
SAM BELLAMY
JOHN JAMES, its nice to see you again.
CHARLES hands the CAPTAIN the keys to the cells and he begins
unlocking the cells as THE PRISONERS runs out. He then stops
and looks at EDITH. She becomes nervous and scared. He looks
confused for a second like he is figuring out something.
SAM BELLAMY
You are no boy, girl.
EDITH
Am I that obvious?
CHARLES
No, but SAM has a sharp eye.
SAM BELLAMY
Plus one long strand of your hair has
fallen out of your cap, lass.
EDITH
Oh!
EDITH scurries to fit the strand of hair back in her hat.
SAM BELLAMY
I'm CAPTAIN SAM BELLAMY, and you are?
EDITH goes silent, half speechless half worried.
CHARLES
We think this may be BONNIE.
10.

Mixed amount of emotions flood the CAPTAIN's face. Surprise,
disbelief, happiness, confusion, anger, sadness. Before
anyone can utter a word, the sound of footsteps, lots of
footsteps echos through the underground prison.
JOHN
Is there another exit, CAPTAIN?
SAM BELLAMY
Uh-uhm, yeah! This way
They rush to follow the CAPTAIN, he leads them down a
extremely narrow way, all of them walking sideways to avoid
getting stuck, the noise of the GUARD's voices as they
discover their fellow GUARD dead reverberates behind them.
EDITH has a pang of guilt hit her, her eyes look down and her
brows furrow as she walks, looking back only once..
EDITH
(whispering)
Was it right to kill that guard. I know dead men tell no
tales, but could that man have had a family?
JOHN
(whispering)
It's never right to kill anyone, but
the man's intentions were to kill you,
so we were just defending you.
Secondly, the GUARD's are not allowed
to have children as most of the GUARDS
are trained killers or former
prisoners. They spend most of their
time in this prison. I only escaped
because I wanted something worth
living for, living here is just
surviving.
EDITH
Are you living now?
JOHN
I would say so, yes.
EDITH smiles as she continues to follow the CAPTAIN. They are
taken down 4 step stairway and suddenly the CAPTAIN heads
around a small gap between the wall and
11.

then stops once inside.
SAM BELLAMY
Down here.
He points to a hole in the ground with a ladder going down.
SAM BELLAMY
Its a secret way out of this prison, I
only know this because I was once
imprisoned here as a young boy.
JOHN
I never knew this was here, and that
you were imprisoned in Salem.
The CAPTAIN signals for everyone to follow him down and they
all follow.
SAM BELLAMY
I grew up in Salem, I had many
brothers. That is why I came back
here. However, someone started a brawl
in one of the taverns. I tried to stop
it, but inevitably got taken to prison
again.
They all were walking down the damp underground passage.
Their voices echoed as well as the voices of all the confused
guards above.
CHARLES
How deep does this tunnel run?
SAM BELLAMY
I have no idea, but I assume it goes
all around the prison and I know it
goes out onto the beach, well at least
this way it does. I assume thats where
the Whydah and the crew is...
CHARLES
Yes, it's hidden in a bay close to the
beach.
EDITH
This may sound out of the blue, but
why did you become a pirate,
12.

CAPTAIN?
The CAPTAIN looked slightly shocked, he didn't know what to
say. His face softens.
SAM BELLAMY
My reasons are the same as most
pirates, I was poor. I needed it to
survive, the Navy, despite working for
them gave me little pay. I sent the
only money back to-
The CAPTAIN stopped and looked down.
EDITH
(confused)
To who?
A pained expression appears on SAM's face
SAM BELLAMY
(hesitantly)
I sent money back to my wife and our
child.
The CAPTAIN stops for a moment, looks at EDITH for 5 seconds
and then hugs her. She puts her arms round him also, she
smiles.
EDITH
I need to tell you something.
SAM BELLAMY
No, you don't.
EDITH
But-
SAM BELLAMY
You just remind me of my her.
EDITH closes her eyes tight as well as tightening the hug.
CHARLES and JOHN both looks at each other, sharing a sad
smile.
SAM BELLAMY
I wanted you to be her.
EDITH begins to cry.
13.

EDITH
I didn't want to lie. I just didn't
want to lose the only real family I
think I've ever found.
SAM BELLAMY
(still hugging Edith)
It's okay, I knew from the moment
CHARLES said. You can be our family.
We've both lost. We can heal again,
together.
CHARLES joins the hug which makes EDITH stifle a laugh. JOHN
is hesitant to join and instead just holds EDITH's hand.
EDITH
Who would have thought that pirates
hugged.
JOHN
They don't.
CHARLES grabs JOHN's hand and pulls him in.
CHARLES
Sometimes Men can hug. This is only
for BONNIE.
They all laugh. EDITH wipes her tears away and pulls out of
the hug.
EDITH
My real name is EDITH. EDITH BLOOM.
I'm sorry for lying about that.
CHARLES
Very well.
SAM BELLAMY
It is nice to meet you, MISS EDITH
BLOOM.
CHARLES
It is a beautiful name, that is yours
to own.
JOHN starts walking again and the others follow. The
14.

dark and dingy underground tunnel is lit up by the light from
the beach. EDITH feels relief and a real smile lights up her
face for the first time in a while.
SAM BELLAMY
It feels like I've been in that cell
for months even though it has only
been a few days.
CHARLES pats SAM on the back.
JOHN
(he smiles)
Some men go mad.
SAM and CHARLES share a knowing glance.
CHARLES
(he chuckles)
Not my brother.
EDITH
Are you two actually brothers?
The CAPTAIN laughs, CHARLES smiles.
CHARLES
No, sadly. However we do share the
same last name.
EXT. BEACH BAY. SUNSET
4 of them walk out of the underground cave. Stepping onto the
sand below. The stern of the WHYDAH is seen to their right.
They make their way too it, sinking in the sand lightly as
they walk. The sky displays a multitude of colours, but
mainly oranges, pinks and reds.
JOHN
Red sky at night, Shepards delight.
EDITH
What does that mean?
JOHN
The weather is supposed to be good
here, we could stay.
15.
Created using Celtx
SAM BELLAMY
Too risky, we should head over to Cape
Cod. I know some places we could stay.
EDITH
I have an old friend that stowed away
on a ship to Cape Cod.
SAM BELLAMY
Maybe we could find them.
The ship bustles with people, PIRATES preparing swords until
one CREW member spotted the four.
CREW #1
CAPTAIN!
The rest of the WHYDAH CREW stopS, looking towards the four.
Cheers soar and the men seem livelier. The four walk closer,
water hitting their ankles as they get closer to the boat in
the small crevasse of the beach. A ladder is thrown off the
side and it splashes into the water. Smiles erupted and as
EDITH climbed up she could hear tankards clinking. Once they
were all on the boat and the CAPTAIN looks at EDITH then at
the crew.
EDITH
I lied to you all, I'm sorry. I am not
BONNIE. I was scared you'd kill me.
This necklace though, belongs to
BONNIE.
EDITH hands over the necklace around her neck and puts it in
the CAPTAIN's hands.
NATHANIAL'S eyes furrow, he gestures to speak, but CAPTAIN
SAM starts before him.
SAM BELLAMY
We are nicknamed ROBIN HOODS MEN, if
we do not help the poor or alone, then
we will not live up to our name. This
is EDITH BLOOM, she was an orphan, but
she's our family now.
The CREW cheer.
16.
Created using Celtx
NATHANIAL
She is still a girl.
The cheers stop for a moment.
SAM BELLAMY
That is an old wives tale but if you
believe it then she will have a new
name as we disguise her. Is that okay
EDITH?
The whole WHYDAH crew look at her expectantly.
EDITH
Uh yeah. It would be nice to have a
fresh start.
JOHN
What do you want your new name to be?
EDITH
Uhh... Jack...
Edith looks at the boat around her, she spots the equipment
all and around her.
EDITH
Rope...?
SAM BELLAMY
To Jack Rope!
ROBIN HOODS MEN
AYE!!!
They all cheer.
EDITH
To a fresh start! To family!
THE END

Script submerged

  • 1. Created using Celtx EXT. WHYDAH GALLY SHIP. DAY The WHYDAH CREW surrounds an injured OLIVIER as NATHANIAL helps him down onto a crate. OLIVIER face remains expressionless, his leg lifted onto a barrel as he treats his leg himself. NATHANIAL I told ye! Letting a woman aboard gives us nothing, but bad luck. HENRY She did save me, if it weren't for BONNIE- NATHANIAL (calmly) If it weren't for BONNIE, OLIVIER would not have been shot. HENRY I would have died, NATHANIAL. NATHANIAL (Scoffs) They wanted to use you, not kill you, old man. HENRY grits his teeth, gradually getting more and more aggravated. HENRY Watch your tone, boy. CHARLES Stop this now. NATHANIAL I am no boy, I am the only one speaking sense. HENRY (with venom) You are speaking nonsense and hatred, ye know nothing. NATHANIAL's face morphed, an angry expression replacing his calm one. HENRY I understand ye are so selfish and
  • 2. 2. Created using Celtx stupid ye believe lies of superstition, I suggest you shut up and listen to the ones that actually are speaking sense. Like a switch was flicked in NATHANIAL head, he grabs HENRY by the throat, face getting redder as his face neared in HENRY'S face. Every pair of eyes on the ship stare at the two. NATHANIAL Listen here, bilge rat. BONNIE has doomed us all. CHARLES (standing beside the two) Okay. That is enough OLIVIER (in a warning tone) NATHANIAL. NATHANIAL releases HENRY and backs up. The whole ship goes quiet for a moment. His eyes slowly scan the crowd until BONNIE is in his view. NATHANIAL (pointing at BONNIE) You! Have doomed us all. All eyes gaze upon BONNIE/EDITH, standing opposite NATHANIAL behind HENRY. The conflict causes the WHYDAH CREW to start to whisper and chatter while NATHANIAL's eyes are glued onto BONNIE. CHARLES For the last time, stop this. Any other Captain would give you forty lashes... Are we done? NATHANIAL looks up at CHARLES and for a second his demeanour shifts, and he looks worried, but the look is gone within a second regaining his composure replaced by a threatening glare. CHARLES Everyone, get back to work! The WHYDAH CREW disperses leaving CHARLES, HENRY, NATHANIAL, EDITH AND OLIVIER.
  • 3. 3. Created using Celtx HELMSMAN Land Ahoy! CHARLES gives one last look at NATHANIAL. CHARLES Parley? NATHANIAL doesn't make eye contact with CHARLES, his eyes still glued onto EDITH's as she shifts uncomfortably. NATHANIAL Parley. CHARLES looks at HENRY. HENRY moves to stand next to EDITH. HENRY Parley. CHARLES If this happens again- NATHANIAL and HENRY nod. There is silence, they all look at each other until EDITH taps CHARLES on the arm. CHARLES Sink Me! Ye made me jump! EDITH Sorry! Just, can I come with you. NATHANIAL scoffs, rolling his eyes as he walks off to help OLIVIER. CHARLES I don't think so- EDITH Please, I'm small. I can fit through things the other pirates can't- CHARLES I don't know, BONNIE... EDITH frowns, then contemplates what to say to convince him. She grabs his arm and turns to stand in
  • 4. 4. Created using Celtx front of him. EDITH (looking side to side) He's my father too. EDITH looks at HENRY who is giving her a look. CHARLES seems conflicted. EDITH Let me show you how I am not bad luck! EDITH grabs a hat from her back pocket and stuffs her hair in it as she places it on her head. EDITH See I'm not a woman! I'm a lad? CHARLES chuckles. OLIVIER Technically she isn't a lass now. NATHANIAL glares and continues his work while the corners of OLIVIER's mouth reveal a slight smile. CHARLES I know you aren't bad luck and a smaller sized person would be helpful. EDITH Lets go then! CHARLES, EDITH AND JOHN, gather the equipment needed to rescue CAPTAIN SAM BELLAMY; Swords, rope with grappling hooks and lock-picks. JOHN places a pocket knife in EDITH'S hand. CHARLES This is our resident Swordsman. JOHN A lady must always have a weapon on her. EDITH I like your thinking, Sir.
  • 5. 5. Created using Celtx JOHN I am aware my voice sounds proper, but Sir is too formal, JOHN will do just fine. EDITH Well I like your thinking, John, but I already have one. EDITH grabs another slightly larger knife out of her pocket and lifts it up to show JOHN. JOHN The more the merrier? EDITH Thank you. EDITH places both the knives in her side holsters. CHARLES Ready? EDITH & JOHN Ay! Both CHARLES AND JOHN head out, EDITH grabs a thin long piece of metal with a hook on the tip and follows them. Before she can, a hand grabs her by the arm. NATHANIAL If it all goes wrong. That's on you. EDITH pulls her arm from him and follows CHARLES and JOHN off ship. EXT. OUTSIDE PRISION. 4PM. A tall wall stretches to the sky before them. Made of stone, with vines traveling in and around the cracks between stones. CHARLES grabs a rope and grappling hook from his bag.
  • 6. 6. Created using Celtx CHARLES I'll go up first to check and you follow. If you fall, JOHN will be right behind you, got it? EDITH Got it. CHARLES swings his grappling hook onto a lantern on the side of the stone wall near a window and begins to climb. Once at the window, he checks the surroundings and beckons them to climb up as well. EDITH Here we go. JOHN is the last one up, a dark, cold hallway awaits them. Sounds of heels clicking on the floor echo throughout the halls and the three of them swiftly hide behind a wall. CHARLES first, EDITH second and JOHN with his weapons at the ready. CHARLES I don't think we should kill anyone today, keep this quiet and if anyone sees... JOHN Dead men tell no tales. JOHN nods at CHARLES, while EDITH takes a deep breath, her hand wrapping around her holster. CHARLES pushes EDITH back into position as she tries to lean round the corner as the heel clicks inch closer. EDITH looks up at him, a little shocked and CHARLES places a finger on his lips in a shushing notion. TWO MEN walk past, one carrying a long sword and one with a flame torch. The flames dance on the walls as the men walk past. CHARLES waits until they walk for 8 more seconds and then notions for JOHN to go ahead and EDITH to follow him. EDITH Do you know this prison well? JOHN I used to be a guard here, the pay is little however and most guards are not gentlemen.
  • 7. 7. Created using Celtx CHARLES Where would SAM be- JOHN stops and rushes to hide behind a column, CHARLES and EDITH follows suit, going to a separate column each. A LARGER GUARD, with two swords this time, walks past the columns. EDITH feels she is about to sneeze, she sniffs in to try and prevent it, but that alerts THE LARGER GUARD. JOHN and CHARLES hold their breath and EDITH holds her mouth and nose as the guard looks around, 5 seconds pass and the guard walks away. They all let out a sign of relief. They turn and follow JOHN who reaches the stairs and descends. JOHN (whispering) He will be down here somewhere, most likely. CHARLES (whispering) Most likely? JOHN I'm sure CHARLES You better. The stairs end and a narrow walkway is ahead of them, one by one they make their way through, hearing noises from the prison mates and sounds of bars rattling. There was a dingy and dank smell among the cells and some prisoners were lying on the floor, some at the bars. What made CAPTAIN SAM BELLAMY stand out was the fact that he sat up straight in his old blue military coat, and faced away from them looking out of the small window to the courtyard. His long black hair trailed down his back in a loose ponytail. A quite slender man, looked like he hadn't eaten much. He did not spot them, neither did the other prison mates. JOHN stopped and waited behind a wall, both EDITH and CHARLES followed suit. JOHN EDITH, are you able to sneak over to the sleeping guard and grab his
  • 8. 8. Created using Celtx keys? EDITH I think so. JOHN You need to know so. CHARLES She can do it. EDITH I know so. JOHN What you need to do, is grab the key and then pass it to us, without being noticed. EDITH (nodding) Aye! EDITH grabs the hook from her bag, she begins to make her way to the sleeping GUARD around the corner, she crouches and inches closer extremely slowly. Each time she hears him start to snore, she takes a step. EDITH starts to realise how peaceful the man sleeps, she thinks that maybe he has a nice life and-he stirs. EDITH goes rigid for a second, her heart pounding. The GUARD starts snoring normally again, the keys jangling only for a moment, she is just about in-reach and grabs the hook from her bag slowly. She hooks the keys and they ease quickly and smoothly off the GUARDS holster. The same way, maybe slightly quicker, she crouches back towards JOHN and CHARLES, just at the end she turns towards them both, looking away from the GUARD and then she feels two big arms constrict around her neck. CHARLES and JOHN both jump into action, seeings the GUARD awake, they run to EDITH, the GUARD drops her as she coughs and wheezes on the floor. JOHN swiftly stabs the GUARD in the neck, and JOHN grabs the keys from EDITH checking she is okay. CHARLES sitting beside her worriedly. Then JOHN heads to SAM BELLAMY'S cell to free him. THE PRISONERS become louder, shaking the bars in their cells to be let out.
  • 9. 9. Created using Celtx SAM BELLAMY Thank you, brother! CHARLES We had to get our Captain back somehow. JOHN Captain. SAM BELLAMY JOHN JAMES, its nice to see you again. CHARLES hands the CAPTAIN the keys to the cells and he begins unlocking the cells as THE PRISONERS runs out. He then stops and looks at EDITH. She becomes nervous and scared. He looks confused for a second like he is figuring out something. SAM BELLAMY You are no boy, girl. EDITH Am I that obvious? CHARLES No, but SAM has a sharp eye. SAM BELLAMY Plus one long strand of your hair has fallen out of your cap, lass. EDITH Oh! EDITH scurries to fit the strand of hair back in her hat. SAM BELLAMY I'm CAPTAIN SAM BELLAMY, and you are? EDITH goes silent, half speechless half worried. CHARLES We think this may be BONNIE.
  • 10. 10. Created using Celtx Mixed amount of emotions flood the CAPTAIN's face. Surprise, disbelief, happiness, confusion, anger, sadness. Before anyone can utter a word, the sound of footsteps, lots of footsteps echos through the underground prison. JOHN Is there another exit, CAPTAIN? SAM BELLAMY Uh-uhm, yeah! This way They rush to follow the CAPTAIN, he leads them down a extremely narrow way, all of them walking sideways to avoid getting stuck, the noise of the GUARD's voices as they discover their fellow GUARD dead reverberates behind them. EDITH has a pang of guilt hit her, her eyes look down and her brows furrow as she walks, looking back only once.. EDITH (whispering) Was it right to kill that guard. I know dead men tell no tales, but could that man have had a family? JOHN (whispering) It's never right to kill anyone, but the man's intentions were to kill you, so we were just defending you. Secondly, the GUARD's are not allowed to have children as most of the GUARDS are trained killers or former prisoners. They spend most of their time in this prison. I only escaped because I wanted something worth living for, living here is just surviving. EDITH Are you living now? JOHN I would say so, yes. EDITH smiles as she continues to follow the CAPTAIN. They are taken down 4 step stairway and suddenly the CAPTAIN heads around a small gap between the wall and
  • 11. 11. Created using Celtx then stops once inside. SAM BELLAMY Down here. He points to a hole in the ground with a ladder going down. SAM BELLAMY Its a secret way out of this prison, I only know this because I was once imprisoned here as a young boy. JOHN I never knew this was here, and that you were imprisoned in Salem. The CAPTAIN signals for everyone to follow him down and they all follow. SAM BELLAMY I grew up in Salem, I had many brothers. That is why I came back here. However, someone started a brawl in one of the taverns. I tried to stop it, but inevitably got taken to prison again. They all were walking down the damp underground passage. Their voices echoed as well as the voices of all the confused guards above. CHARLES How deep does this tunnel run? SAM BELLAMY I have no idea, but I assume it goes all around the prison and I know it goes out onto the beach, well at least this way it does. I assume thats where the Whydah and the crew is... CHARLES Yes, it's hidden in a bay close to the beach. EDITH This may sound out of the blue, but why did you become a pirate,
  • 12. 12. Created using Celtx CAPTAIN? The CAPTAIN looked slightly shocked, he didn't know what to say. His face softens. SAM BELLAMY My reasons are the same as most pirates, I was poor. I needed it to survive, the Navy, despite working for them gave me little pay. I sent the only money back to- The CAPTAIN stopped and looked down. EDITH (confused) To who? A pained expression appears on SAM's face SAM BELLAMY (hesitantly) I sent money back to my wife and our child. The CAPTAIN stops for a moment, looks at EDITH for 5 seconds and then hugs her. She puts her arms round him also, she smiles. EDITH I need to tell you something. SAM BELLAMY No, you don't. EDITH But- SAM BELLAMY You just remind me of my her. EDITH closes her eyes tight as well as tightening the hug. CHARLES and JOHN both looks at each other, sharing a sad smile. SAM BELLAMY I wanted you to be her. EDITH begins to cry.
  • 13. 13. Created using Celtx EDITH I didn't want to lie. I just didn't want to lose the only real family I think I've ever found. SAM BELLAMY (still hugging Edith) It's okay, I knew from the moment CHARLES said. You can be our family. We've both lost. We can heal again, together. CHARLES joins the hug which makes EDITH stifle a laugh. JOHN is hesitant to join and instead just holds EDITH's hand. EDITH Who would have thought that pirates hugged. JOHN They don't. CHARLES grabs JOHN's hand and pulls him in. CHARLES Sometimes Men can hug. This is only for BONNIE. They all laugh. EDITH wipes her tears away and pulls out of the hug. EDITH My real name is EDITH. EDITH BLOOM. I'm sorry for lying about that. CHARLES Very well. SAM BELLAMY It is nice to meet you, MISS EDITH BLOOM. CHARLES It is a beautiful name, that is yours to own. JOHN starts walking again and the others follow. The
  • 14. 14. Created using Celtx dark and dingy underground tunnel is lit up by the light from the beach. EDITH feels relief and a real smile lights up her face for the first time in a while. SAM BELLAMY It feels like I've been in that cell for months even though it has only been a few days. CHARLES pats SAM on the back. JOHN (he smiles) Some men go mad. SAM and CHARLES share a knowing glance. CHARLES (he chuckles) Not my brother. EDITH Are you two actually brothers? The CAPTAIN laughs, CHARLES smiles. CHARLES No, sadly. However we do share the same last name. EXT. BEACH BAY. SUNSET 4 of them walk out of the underground cave. Stepping onto the sand below. The stern of the WHYDAH is seen to their right. They make their way too it, sinking in the sand lightly as they walk. The sky displays a multitude of colours, but mainly oranges, pinks and reds. JOHN Red sky at night, Shepards delight. EDITH What does that mean? JOHN The weather is supposed to be good here, we could stay.
  • 15. 15. Created using Celtx SAM BELLAMY Too risky, we should head over to Cape Cod. I know some places we could stay. EDITH I have an old friend that stowed away on a ship to Cape Cod. SAM BELLAMY Maybe we could find them. The ship bustles with people, PIRATES preparing swords until one CREW member spotted the four. CREW #1 CAPTAIN! The rest of the WHYDAH CREW stopS, looking towards the four. Cheers soar and the men seem livelier. The four walk closer, water hitting their ankles as they get closer to the boat in the small crevasse of the beach. A ladder is thrown off the side and it splashes into the water. Smiles erupted and as EDITH climbed up she could hear tankards clinking. Once they were all on the boat and the CAPTAIN looks at EDITH then at the crew. EDITH I lied to you all, I'm sorry. I am not BONNIE. I was scared you'd kill me. This necklace though, belongs to BONNIE. EDITH hands over the necklace around her neck and puts it in the CAPTAIN's hands. NATHANIAL'S eyes furrow, he gestures to speak, but CAPTAIN SAM starts before him. SAM BELLAMY We are nicknamed ROBIN HOODS MEN, if we do not help the poor or alone, then we will not live up to our name. This is EDITH BLOOM, she was an orphan, but she's our family now. The CREW cheer.
  • 16. 16. Created using Celtx NATHANIAL She is still a girl. The cheers stop for a moment. SAM BELLAMY That is an old wives tale but if you believe it then she will have a new name as we disguise her. Is that okay EDITH? The whole WHYDAH crew look at her expectantly. EDITH Uh yeah. It would be nice to have a fresh start. JOHN What do you want your new name to be? EDITH Uhh... Jack... Edith looks at the boat around her, she spots the equipment all and around her. EDITH Rope...? SAM BELLAMY To Jack Rope! ROBIN HOODS MEN AYE!!! They all cheer. EDITH To a fresh start! To family! THE END
