Scottish Moodle Users Group (SMUG)

The Scottish Moodle Users Group (SMUG) is a community-driven organization facilitated by the two Scottish JISC Regional Support Centers. SMUG holds 2-3 face-to-face meetings per year that are open to all further and higher education staff. The meetings include presentations and discussions on Moodle features and topics of interest. SMUG also communicates through a JISCmail listserv and is working to develop a website at s-mug.org.uk. The group aims to promote sharing of information and local support between Scottish educational institutions using Moodle.

Fiona Mckichan and Kate Stephenson from the Library created learning objects to support information literacy. They received SLTI funding to design learning objects for distance learners. The library information team planned and designed the learning objects which included topics like simple searching, Harvard referencing, and collaboration with Solent Creatives. A number of websites and images were linked to provide further resources.

As part of this participants will be shown a range of free and open source tools to assist in Twitter data collection and analysis including the Twitter Archiving Google Spreadsheet (TAGS) and NodeXL."

The expectation and hope is the presentation will inspire wider discussion on the opportunities and challenges of distributed learning frameworks such as Personal Learning Environments (PLEs) and how they might be incorporated into courses - and importantly, how courses might be changed to enable learning networks to form.

Learning Management Systems have evolved from faculty sandboxes to complex enterprise learning environments. Meanwhile, budgets have plummeted and the LMS market has been undergoing rapid change. Many campuses have moved to Moodle to help stabilize their business and application environments. An important criteria behind this transition for many campuses has been the ability to ‘control their own destiny’ and collaborate with colleagues.
In this presentation, we will discuss the experience of campuses in the California State University system collaborating on Moodle technical development, user services, and support. Among the 10 campuse currently using or in transition to Moodle, we have developed a shared governance model with separate groups to administer policy-related issues and technical / UI issues. We will discuss the creation of a Moodle Shared Code base that is being used by several campuses, and the current migration of SCB features into Moodle v2.0. Moodle techincal expertise is shared between campuses, and training resources have been leveraged across the CSU system. We will discuss the process and features that have led to successful (and not so successful) colllaborative activities, as well as the services that have been created.

UTM Living Lab aims to promote sustainability through education, operations, research and community engagement. It incorporates sustainability into the curriculum, minimizes the campus' environmental impact, contributes to sustainability research, and partners with surrounding communities and industries. Some key initiatives include making the campus carbon neutral, implementing problem-based learning on low carbon societies, hosting sustainability exhibitions, and developing a low carbon village with local communities. The Living Lab takes a holistic and collaborative approach to advance sustainability at UTM and in Iskandar Malaysia through diverse partnerships.
Enabling e labs experiments delivery using Moodle LMS
This document discusses enabling e-lab experiments using the Moodle learning management system (LMS). It provides an overview of LMSs, focusing on Moodle. Moodle was chosen for an e-lab project to allow experiment reusability, interoperability, scalability and maintenance. It also enables user management, collaboration, documentation and project outcomes transfer. Statistics on the Moodle implementation across project partners include over 3000 registered users, 1600 students, 41 courses/38 experiments, and 4 quizzes/assignments.

JANET Update December 2008

1) EdLab, an online collaboration space for technical staff, added new audio/video materials and discussion forums.
2) JANET's videoconferencing capacity was doubled with new HD-capable equipment, improving picture quality on existing systems.
3) Moodle developments included a mobile app and integration with an external learning object repository.
4) The JANET Collaborate pilot project received positive feedback and will focus on improving search and attracting more members/content.
5) A second phase trial of the JANET Talk collaboration tool aims to understand usage and inform a sustainable business model.

A wound is a break in the integrity of the skin or tissues, which may be associated with disruption of the structure and function.
Healing is the body’s response to injury in an attempt to restore normal structure and functions.
Healing can occur in two ways: Regeneration and Repair
There are 4 phases of wound healing: hemostasis, inflammation, proliferation, and remodeling. This document also describes the mechanism of wound healing. Factors that affect healing include infection, uncontrolled diabetes, poor nutrition, age, anemia, the presence of foreign bodies, etc.
Complications of wound healing like infection, hyperpigmentation of scar, contractures, and keloid formation.
