2. • I chose this opening scene as I like the video game
theme and comedy that introduces the characters.
• There is a video game theme to the movie as the
main character, Scott, is a big gamer and the movie
is based on the original comics of the same name.
• The comedy used in the opening is simply the main
characters acting as they normally would and
discussing Scott's new 17 year old girlfriend.
Why I like this opening...
3. • The opening feeds into the rest of the film by introducing the main character,
his friends (also band) and it gives a small description of each character.#
• The description of each character is told by another. For example, at the start,
Kim (a friend) repeats the voiceover and then questions Scott on his age.
However, Kim gets him age wrong forcing Scott to correct her. He then turns
around to correct her and a small black box pops up stating the pointed out
facts about the character. This happens throughout the movie to introduce
many key characters. .
The rest of the film...
4. Camerawork:
• Camerawork is really used in a unique way in the opening of this movie. There are simple two
shots, over the shoulder shots and mid shots to show the conversations about each character
but nothing too difficult. However, when the main band (Sex Bob-omb) that is made up of
most main characters are practising in their house, there is a unique long shot that zooms out of
the band as a point of view from the sofa, where Scott’s new girlfriend is watching.
Editing:
• Editing used is very vital to creating the videogame theme. This is because of the
pop ups with each characters information and some special effects used. For
example, to make the movie more like the comic books there are loads of boom
crash and pow special effects to emphasise the fight scenes and loud actions.
• In terms of transitions, there are mainly simple cuts apart from when there is a
change of scenery. When there is a change in setting, there are graphic matches and
wipes to emphasise the change.

5. Sound:
• In the intro, there is only music, dialogue and the odd special effect used to emphasise action. The
music is from the band at practise and the song that they play transitions into the opening credits.
There is also simple dialogue and sound effects used to explain narrative.
Mise-En-Scene:
• There are many props used in the opening to help to tell the story. For instance, there is all of the
instruments at band practise, the items scattered over the kitchen to make it more like a home and just
the odd prop for narrative.
• The overall lighting of the opening is just the lighting in an average home. Although, there is an
emphasis on red during the opening credits as it’s the movies signature colour.
• Clothing isn’t too much of a game changer as it is mainly plain tee’s and jeans to show that the band
and main characters are just lazy and young. Although, when Knives Chau (Scott’s highschooler
girlfriend) turns up, she is dressed fairly formal. This could show off the fact that she is a good girl
and goes to a private school, as previously mentioned.

6. Plot:
• The plot of the movie is half explained in the opening. I say this because it
introduces the characters, setting and their lifestyles etc but it doesn’t introduced the
entire storyline. Being based on a comic, the storyline progresses as the movie goes
on and we explore the story piece by piece.
Genre:
• The genre of the film is a fusion of action, comedy and fantasy. I’d say that the
comedy aspect has been clearly introduced by the simple jokes and the fantasy
because the movie seems a lot like the comic, therefore it must include a small dose
of the fantasy genre. However, the action side of the movie isn’t introduced until the
first fight about 30 minutes into the movie.
How has it introduced the...
7. • The opening hooks the audience with the comedy aspect.
I think that the comedy is used to make the audience
laugh and therefore get even more hooked into the
listening. And when it makes the audience listen more, it
pulls them in further which hooks them even more.
• However, the genre of music that the band plays may not
appeal to everyone. This is because some people like a
specific genre of music and that only, and if they were to
watch the movie, the genre of music may put them off.
• I would say that the target audience for this film is any
comedy fan. This is because of the simple humour that
could be understood by anybody.
