4. ABOUT HYDROGEN
ENERGY
Hydrogen energy is the simplest element
Consists of only one proton and one neutron
It is always combined with another element
Obtaining hydrogen is complicated. It is not found alone in
nature, it is usually bonded with other elements. To obtain
it, it takes dividing those chemical bonds and taking the
hydrogen from it
The use of hydrogen for energy purposes is in a
developmental stage, meaning it is not being used yet, but it
is preparing for future use
5. MORE ABOUT
HYDROGEN ENERGY
Hydrogen energy is a form of chemical energy, and is
converted to electricity by devices called fuel cells
Converting hydrogen energy into electrical energy instead of
using a traditional coal power plant is, although less
efficient, more environmentally friendly
Hydrogen is stored as a chemical energy and then released
into a fuel cell and converted into electricity
Hydrogen energy is used in the manufacture of gasoline and
heating oil. Also as a fuel source of energy
It is extremely flammable; The most abundant element
6. POSITIVES OF
HYDROGEN ENERGY
An engine that burns strictly hydrogen produces nearly no
pollution
It is an effective renewable resource
A hydrogen economy would make a large amount of
redistribution of electricity possible throughout the USA
Hydrogen can be stored at a much lower cost as opposed to
electricity that is stored in batteries
7. NEGATIVES OF
HYDROGEN ENERGY
In order for a hydrogen economy to impact the nation, it
must change almost every part of its energy system
Hydrogen energy is extremely expensive.
Producing hydrogen takes extensive effort to reduce
elements until it is pure hydrogen, which lowers the overall
efficiency of using hydrogen as an alternative
The storage of hydrogen is very difficult, 1 gram of hydrogen
gas takes up about 11 liters of space, and hydrogen in liquid
form can only be stored at extremely low temperatures
8. OUR POSITION
We support the USA as they have already began the
construction of a hydrogen power highway
We believe that the use the use of hydrogen energy as an
alternative is important in Santa Barbara because it is a
renewable resource and produces nearly no pollution.
Although it is expensive, we believe the advantages outweigh
the disadvantages. It will help our environment a great deal.
It will create many jobs which will also help our economy
It is viable to use hydrogen energy in Santa Barbara as long
as we have the money to pay for it
9. OUR OPINION
Traditional energy such as fossil fuels sources get the job
done but they will not last forever
Fossil fuels give off pollution, as opposed to hydrogen
energy, which gives off nearly no pollution
We believe that the use of hydrogen energy can potentially
save our earth from environmental damages such as global
warming
We think hydrogen should be used all over the world in
order to stop pollution before it causes irreversible damage
to our environment
10. THE FUTURE OF
HYDROGEN ENERGY
If we use hydrogen powered cars such as these in the future
instead of cars powered by fossil fuels, we can lower the
pollution rates across the world
