2. Locations The temperate rainforests run from 38 degrees to 56 degrees south latitude along the coast of Chile and from 38 degrees to 61 degrees north latitude along the the northwest coast of North America. Canada, Chile, parts of Europe, New Zealand and part of southern Australia have temperate rainforests.
3. Climate Rainfall exceeds 200 cm a year. The average temperature ranges from 5 degrees Celsius to 25 degrees Celsius.
4. Physical Features The temperate rainforest occurs by the coast in narrow strips, backed by mountains. Ocean winds drop large amounts of moisture on the windward side of the mountains.
5. Plant Adaptations Trees often grow very large due to high amounts of precipitation. There are many varieties of mosses, ferns and fungi that cover the forest floor.
6. Animal Adaptations The majority of animals live on the forest floor where they have shelter from the elements. Many insects live in the tree bark and decomposing plant matter.
