- Franklin and Wilkins produced high quality photographs of DNA using x-ray diffraction that provided evidence for the structure of DNA. Crick and Watson used this data from Franklin and Wilkins to build the first correct model of DNA, which showed its double helix structure. While Franklin and Wilkins contributed important experimental evidence, they did not synthesize all the data to propose a full DNA structure model. Crick and Watson combined the data from multiple scientists to develop the first complete model of the DNA double helix.
