  1. Ajatuksena painottaa kahta asiaa: 1) bisneksen edistäminen pohjoisilla alueilla ja 2) matkailu
  2. Tarkoitus kuvata Suomen Lapin olosuhteita. Näissä olosuhteissa bisneksen pyörittäminen on hieman erilaista kuin suurissa keskuksissa. On osattava tottakai markkinoita, mutta erityisesti on ymmärrettävä logistiikan merkitys liiketoiminnalle. Haasteena on tavoittaa mahdolliset asiakkaat ja osattava myydä heille. Ja myytävät tuotteet/palvelut tulee olla oikeanlaisia, pohjoiset olosuhteet huomioon ottavia. Em. syistä liiketalouden koulutuksessa panostetaan erityisesti eBUsinekseen. Tämä kuva on myös perustelua IBSille. IBSin fokus on ymmärtää pohjoiset olosuhteet ja liiketoiminnan mahdollisuudet siellä. Seuraava kalvo kuvaa IBSin fokusta.

  5. Tutkimuksen osalta merkityksellistä on tutkimusalueiden esittely. Nämä eivät vielä näy kovin vahvasti maratan opetussisällöissä, mutta tulevaisuudessa näkyvät.
  6. Three focal areas in the tourism research Turvallisuus tulee olemaan tärkeässä roolissa tulevaisuuden maratan opetussisällöissä. Erinomaisen merkityksellistä on viranomaisyhteistyön rakentaminen ja meidän rooli siinä. Tavoitteena Suomen turvallisin matkailualue. Lähitulevaisuuden tavoitteena matkailun turvallisuuden normisto. Tässä mennään kansainväliselle tasolle. Ennakointi: Ei tehdä itse ennakointia, vaan kerätään tutkittua tietoa ja saatetaan tietoa elinkeinon ja opetuksen käyttöön. Yhtenä merkittävänä asiana on tiedon popularisointitavoite  tutkimustieto sellaiseen muotoon, että elinkeinon on helppo sitä hyödyntää. Viimeinen laatikko on merkitty tuotekehitykseksi, mutta matkailussa kysymys on palveluiden tuotteistamisesta. Lähtökohtana meidän toiminta-alueen tarjoamat mahdollisuudet luoda uusia tuotteita ja palveluita. Lähtökohta tutkimuksessa ei siis ole asiakaslähtöisyys vaan aluelähtöisyys. Tämä näkyy jo nyt maratan sisällöissä, opiskelijat erittäin vahvasti mukana.
