Biberach is situated in the very south of Germany. With about 30.000 citizens, its a rather small City. Althought Biberach is famous all over germany and even international because of various companies that are located there. Just to name „Liebherr“ which delivers its cranes throughout the whole world or Boehringer Ingelheim, a leading pharmaceutical companie in germany.
Biberach University of Applied Sciences it located in the heart of Biberach, next to the old city. It has 2 outposts, and all in all 12 Buildings. 1600 Students - 65 Professors - 180 assistant lecturers - 120 employees Because of its size , the atmosphere is very personal and warm. The students are always in touch with the professors – information flow. The University has become top marks in the nationwide rankings and also in independent evaluations it became best results. Therefore our students come from all over germany to study in Biberach.
Now to our Campus . At the first picture you can see the carrel of our library. Then, we do have a cafeteria where you get breakefast and lunch. Of course we do have a computer center with several rooms that are always at the students disposal. This is picture of our hall of residence. And finally we also do have a students meeting point, which is called „Hechtkeller“.

Responsible for the research and development in our university are the various Institutes of the faculties. First, there is the Institute of Applied Research, which is a coordination of all institutes. Then we do have the Institute of Timber consturction The institute of Building & Energy Systems, The institute of Geo & Environment The institute of Real Estate Economics & Project Management The Institute of the Built Environment and the Institute of Pharmaceutical Biotechtology
Then I want to introduce you the Field of Study Energy & Climate which does have a cooperation with your degree programme Technology, Forestry and Rural Industries. It does consist of 2 study courses, architectural engineering and Energy Systems and the Institute of Building and Énergy Systems. The study course Energy Systems does have a cooperation with the University of Applied Sciences in Ulm. So, the students benefit from the knowledge and facilities of both universities. The purpose of the study course is the design of sustainable Energy Systems. The main focus of the lectures lies on -Combined heat & power technologie - Decentralized & renewable energies Energy management/ contracting / conservation The purpose of the study course architectural engineering is to close the gap between the classical utility engineering, building physics and architectural programmes. The main focus of the lectures is - the Design, construction & operation of climate adapted buildings - A Specialized & comprehensive education for HVAC-R & electrical installation - A Holistic knowledge of buildings and their technical systems - Economical & ecological climate designs
All in all we posess 8 laboratories
Finnally I will give you an overview about the several exchange programmes of the Universities of Applied Sciences in Rovaniemi and Biberach. There is the short-term … which means that every year visit about 5 students of every university the partner university for 2 weeks. The first week is reserved for lectures and the second week is intended for excursions and sightseeing. Then there is the long-term … that we‘d like to induce in the upcoming years. Students will have the opportunity to visit their partner university for about 6 months to work there as an research assistant at current research projects of the professors. If you are interested… Then students have the opportunity to absolve their practical semester… They can do an exchange semester or even do their Bachelor/Master Thesis at the partner university.
I hope, that the cooperation between Rovaniemi and Biberach will last for many many years and will be always that successfull like it has been so far and hope to seeing some of you soon as an exchange student in Biberach.
