This document provides a historical overview of Ecology Action and the development of the Grow Biointensive method from 1972 to 1983. It describes how Ecology Action began research on a 2-acre garden in Palo Alto, California in 1972 to test economic mini-farming techniques. Over the following years, Ecology Action published books and materials on the Biointensive method, expanded their research and apprenticeship programs, and helped spread information about sustainable agriculture worldwide. The organization moved its site to Willits, California in 1982 where it continued developing the Grow Biointensive method.
