morning, brain scans showed no activity.
Four months later, Yusef’s condition had not changed. The physicians believed his brain
was not functioning and wanted to pronounce him dead based on brain criteria. Several
difficulties were encountered, however. First, there was some disagreement among the
medical personnel over whether his brain function had ceased completely. Second, at that
time the District of Columbia had no law authorizing death pronouncement based on
brain criteria. It was not clear that physicians could use death as grounds for stopping
treatment. Most important, Ronald Camp, the boy’s father, protested vigorously any sug-
gestion that treatment be stopped. A devout Muslim, he said, “I could walk up and say
unplug him; but for the rest of my life I would be thinking, was I too hasty? Could he have
recovered if I had given it another 6 months or a year? I’m leaving it in Almighty God’s
hand to let it take whatever flow it will.”
The nurses involved in Yusef’s care faced several problems. Maggots were found
growing in Yusef’s lungs and nasal passages. His right foot and ankle became gangre-
nous. He showed no response to noises or painful stimuli. The nurses had the responsi-
bility not only for maintaining the respiratory tract and the gangrenous limb, but also for
providing the intensive nursing care needed to maintain Yusef in debilitated condition
on life support systems. Had the aggressive care been serving any purpose, they would
have been willing to provide it no matter how repulsive the boy’s condition was and in
spite of there being many other patients desperately needing their attention. However,
some of the nurses caring for Yusef were convinced that they were doing no good what-
soever for the boy. They believed they were only consuming enormous amounts of time
and hospital resources in what appeared to be a futile effort. In the process, other
patients were not getting as much care as would certainly be of benefit to them. Could

This week’s discussion questions caused a lot of reflection on how I practice nursing. The questions led me to reflect on what type of nurse I am. Am I doing the best I can, or have I done the best I could? While considering the six ways of knowing I kept coming back to unknowing. The act of being unaware or not being able to fully understand what the patient is experiencing or going through (Heath, 1998). That is how I approach every patient. I have no preconceived notion that I have even the faintest idea of what they must be feeling. It is the ability to be fully present of yourself and open to the patient and their life. The other is empirical knowing. Empirical knowing is the first introduction we have in nursing school. Understanding the science, the epidemiology, the physical nature of the illness or medical situation. I believe there is a lot of value in empirical knowing, as the patients want us to know why and how to do what we do. They place a lot of trust in us to do the right thing. It is part of our daily responsibility to assess and monitor therapeutic response to treatment (Zander, 2007).
Though the entire 6 ways of knowing were brand new to me and it took me some time to reflect on my understanding of these concepts, I fear the two I have put the least focus on in the past but am keenly aware of their implications are emancipatory and aesthetic knowing. This is not to say that I did not practice the art of nursing, using my years of experience to draw on and I am astutely aware of the social, cultural, and political implications of those in my care. I never was able to put a name or definition to them. Emancipatory knowing, the ability to be astutely aware of the social injustices and be able to act in a way to reduce the negative impact of these inequalities (Peart & MacKinnon 2018). Aesthetic knowing, the ability to interpret the patient’s behavior or expression of self and then asking what this means (Zander, 2007). Aesthetic knowing in a simpler phrase might be considered that gut feeling a nurse often refers to.
I am reminded of a recent experience I had when I was given the privilege to assist another nurse on a home visit. This nurse is an incredible pediatric nurse. I admire her aesthetic way of knowing and how she is so patient and kind with the children she cares for. This young boy, age 11, was recently diagnosed with Pediatric Autoimmune Neurological Disorders Associated with Streptococcal Infections (PANDAS). It is a horrid and unexpected disease that takes an otherwise perfectly healthy child and they become severely paranoid, have expressions of sudden onset OCD type behaviors, and a myriad of other symptoms (International OCD Foundation, n.d.). This young boy was to receive Intravenous Immunoglobulin (IVIG) at his home, requiring placement of a peripheral IV. I was called in for re.

The refinery processes 120,000 bbls of crude oil per day, which has a sulfur content of 2.5 percent. The refinery converts crude oil to naptha, light oil, and heavy oils using the Atmospheric/Vacuum Distillation Unit with key equipment such as the following: � naptha, kerosene, gasoline, and diesel hydrotreaters; � isomerization unit; � naptha reformer; � fluid catalytic cracker; � coker; � hydrocracker; � polymerization unit (petrochemical section of the refinery polymerizing olefin gases to produce polyethylene); � sulfur recovery Claus plant (catalytic reactors); and � distillate/gasoline blending tanks. The refinery was initiating work on a major plant turnaround at the time of the incident to complete required maintenance repairs, mechanical integrity inspections, and modifications to existing equipment. Twenty contractor companies (approximately 150 employees) have been contracted to perform this work under the direction of refinery staff. All of the contractor workers completed the refinery orientation training. Work for the contractor crews is assigned/scheduled each morning. On the day of the incident, the day-shift (6 am to 6 pm) crew had been tasked with isolating the acid gas feed stream for the Claus unit. Due to other work priorities, the crew did not isolate the line as planned. A shift turnover for the night contractor crew did not happen due to mandatory safety training that delayed their arrival at the worksite. History of City of Doral
Two real estate developers called Doris and Alfred Kaskel who bought 2400 acres of land in late 1950s established City of Doral in the state of Florida. The land was swampy between NW 36 and 74 streets and from NW 79 to NW 117 avenues; they bought the land for $ 49,000 with the aim of building a hotel and a golf course. The Kaskel’s constructed the Carillon Hotel and Doral Beach Hotel on Miami Beach. On the bought land, they constructed a country club and established a hotel, which they named as Doral, which is a combination of their names. So guests at the Miami Beach would be transported to the country club, which featured blue, red and par 3 golf courses. Among the events that were hosted at the country club was Florida’s major PGA event, which was the first Doral Open Invitational (City of Doral, 2020). Subsequently, guests frequented the hotels and the country club.
Between 1980 and 2000, Doral’s grandson called Bill built Doral estates and engaged in a joint venture to build the Doral park. Because of building the estate, younger families flooded the area for shopping sprees because the area had not parks, stores, or schools. The tenants and buyers of the Doral estate came together as a community; whereas there were no traffic problems the rapid construction of the estate and the attraction of many buyers and tenants due to the low cost led the county to impose a building moratorium (City of Doral, 2020). The high population and lack of amenities led to increase in the cost of services. The community in the area established a West Dade Federation of Homeowner Associations in 1989 to safeguard the welfare of the community. As a result of the federations’ effort, there was establishment of police station, lighting, landscaping and roads in the area.
Over time, the ownership of Doral country club and hotel changes when Donald Trump bought the club in 2012 for $150 million. Due to change in ownership, the name of the club changed to Trump National Doral Gold Club. The reputation of the club for its golf courses continued and expanded internationally; for example, the Blue Monster continued to host PGA Tour Tournament until 2016. Apparently, the City of Doral attracts many companies, families, businesses and retires (City of Doral, 2020). Between 2010 and 2016, the population of City of Dorol increased by 26.1% by 12,000 people to 58,000 residents. When the city incorporated in 2003, the population was 22,709, which is half its current population (Madan, 2017).

I really liked the subject about Nefertari and her tomb, because it is important to understand how archaeological finds are not always safe, once they’ve been excavated. Although it does make me sad to know the tomb is deteriorating, because of flood waters. With that, I think it may be better for them to seal the tomb to prevent any more damage, until they develop a way to stop the flood waters, but since this is a hot spot for tourism, I know that won’t happen. I would hate to see the tomb deteriorate even more, because of its importance in an archaeological perspective, and to Egypt’s culture. I do have a question about the art on the walls, did the article mention anything on what the art depicted? Because on the 9th slide, it mentions the importance of the art as indicators of economic development in Egypt, now is that for modern Egypt, or Ancient Egypt? Human sexuality makes it achievable for people and animals to express themselves as sexual beings. Sexuality is one of the reasons behind the feeling that everyone has the thoughts and the manner in which we behave. Sexuality defines the manner, in which biological reproduction comes about, it goes ahead to describe the sociological and psychological representation of oneself and the way a person is attracted to others especially of the opposite sex. Human sexuality is a sensitive issue across both sexes. It is an issue that is handled with confidentiality respects for individual’s rights and dignity which is an ethical principle. Through sex, children get an opportunity to bond with each other, adolescents get time to flirt and adults go ahead into having babies.
The good sexual and reproductive state can be categorized as a mental, physical and social stability of an individual that is directly related to the reproductive system. This means that people are able to have a satisfied and safe sexual life. They also have freedom when it comes to matters of reproduction and child bearing. They are able to determine when to reproduce, why they need to do so and how often they need to have children. For one to be able to maintain the best sexual and reproductive practices it is important to seek for important information which is accurate pertaining to the use of contraceptives and how regularly they need to use them. It is important for people to be well informed for the purpose of doing away with unwanted pregnancies and sexually transmitted infections. (Rainwater, 2017).
When women are ready and psychologically prepared to have children, they must be able to access to important advice from physicians make it easy for them to go through the pregnancy period to delivery and thus a healthy baby. When it comes to sexuality and reproductive health everyone must be given a chance to make their own choices. This is respecting other peoples right and dignity. It is applicable by recognizing the worth of the individual through engaging in professional and positive interactions without creating a direct influence of the decisions. The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.
• The Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating several universities since November 15, 2023, when the Committee held a hearing entitled From Ivory Towers to Dark Corners: Investigating the Nexus Between Antisemitism, Tax-Exempt Universities, and Terror Financing.
