They Had When They Were Considering
Becoming Business Coaches...
And How They Overcame Them
Making a life-altering decision to form a new career path is
not something to take lightly... but it's not as scary as it
sounds.
At FocalPoint, we recognize the concerns, doubts, and fears
of all our coaches (both present and future) and we strive to
understand and address these fears so they can be used as
a tool for education and team building.
Check out what our coaches said about the fears and
concerns they had, and how they overcame them.
OVERVIEW.
I had no formal sales experience! Discovery Day started the
process of helping me to become more comfortable with
sales by explaining that our sales process is used to look for
a fit on both sides. The additional training provided by
FocalPoint on how to network and market myself also
helped to make the transition to sales easier for me.
SELLING.
Lisa Levesque - MA
I had success in a certain industry and I had done it at a
young age. My concern was, "Will people see me as any
type of authority to help them with their business?" I
overcame this by realizing that it wasn't about me. I
brought a proven curriculum and a team of 100+ coaches
with me. Additionally, I looked at this fear as one of my
strengths instead of trying to avoid it. I highlighted that I
was a younger entrepreneur that was successful in a
traditionally older industry and that the lessons I learned
there, I brought to my coaching practice.
CREDIBILITY.
Rich Scott - Canada
My prior roles were never driven by a volume sales
objective. I sold ideas, methods and programs as well as
selling myself. However, the sales aspect of starting and
owning your own business is a level I had not previously
experienced. I learned to embrace selling, see myself as a
salesman and adopt proven sales methods, while
maintaining personal integrity in selling myself.
BEING ON MY

GETTING FIRST
CLIENT.
Sales and marketing scared me a lot. I had never done
either of these roles in my previous positions. Franchising
was attractive to me because there are proven models that
help in these areas. FocalPoint especially has fantastic
support and training in sales and marketing. I was able to
overcome my fears and be successful by following the
processes and listening to other coaches that helped me
along the way.

I transitioned directly from a military career to civilian
business. I trusted that the FocalPoint material and fellow
coaches knew what they were talking about. I got to know
several coaches and took advantage of resource materials.
TRANSITIONING.
Jerry Pilewski - SC
Being the "authority" in something you've never done is
scary. The idea of introducing myself as a business coach
felt unauthentic in the beginning. The truth is I have the
business experience both good and bad and have been
able to guide others to great success through my own past
mistakes and successes. Becoming the "authority" can be
as simple as a mindset shift, realizing the label is what's
holding you back not your skills.
HAVING
AUTHORITY.
Trisha Stetzel - TX
I always had a sales and marketing team that would do the
heavy lifting before I entered the prospective client
equation. I never networked locally and also had limited
experience outside of the financial services industry. I
overcame this fear by jumping into the deep-end of the
pool, joining numerous chambers of commerce and
professional associations that forced me to get into the
trenches and speak to local business owners.
NETWORKING.

I knew in my gut this was for me and I never looked back. I
was taught very young that anything I put my mind to I
could achieve and this has served me throughout my life
with many risks I have taken. Knowing I had a strong
FocalPoint support system behind me was very reassuring
as well.

Discovery Day started the process of helping me to become more comfortable with sales by explaining that our sales process is used to look for a fit on both sides.   • 4. I had success in a certain industry and I had done it at a young age. My concern was, "Will people see me as any type of authority to help them with their business?" I overcame this by realizing that it wasn't about me. I brought a proven curriculum and a team of 100+ coaches with me.   • 5. My prior roles were never driven by a volume sales objective. I sold ideas, methods and programs as well as selling myself. However, the sales aspect of starting and owning your own business is a level I had not previously experienced.   • 6. GETTING FIRST CLIENT. Sales and marketing scared me a lot. I had never done either of these roles in my previous positions. I never networked locally and also had limited experience outside of the financial services industry. I overcame this fear by jumping into the deep-end of the pool, joining numerous chambers of commerce and professional associations that forced me to get into the trenches and speak to local business owners.
