This document provides context and analysis of Isaiah 29:9-16. It summarizes that the people of Judah had substituted meaningless rituals for true worship from the heart. God responded by sending a spirit of spiritual apathy. Their leaders, prophets, and wise men could no longer discern or understand God's word, which had become like a sealed document to them. The document warns that empty worship leads to ignorance of God and presumption of equality or superiority over God. True worship requires recognizing God's supremacy and living in light of his grace.
Saul, who was persecuting Christians, asks the high priest for letters to arrest Christians in Damascus. On the road to Damascus, Saul sees a bright light from heaven and hears Jesus, who blinds Saul and tells him to go to Damascus for instructions. Saul's companions lead him into Damascus since he is now blind, and he remains without sight or food/water for three days.
Saul issues a command not to eat before battling the Philistines. Jonathan eats honey unaware of the command and helps defeat the Philistines. Saul wants to kill whoever disobeyed but the people protect Jonathan for his victory. Saul's kingdom will not continue due to his disobedience, though he continues fighting enemies of Israel.

The document summarizes a sermon about Memorial Day and its origins honoring those who died in the American Civil War and later all Americans who died while serving in the military. It discusses how Memorial Day is a time for many people to visit cemeteries and memorials to honor the fallen. It then explores biblical passages about crying out to God for help in times of trouble and sacrificing to God, relating it to how the Israelites cried out to God and Samuel sacrificed when facing threat from the Philistines. God then helped the Israelites by causing thunder against the Philistines. Samuel commemorated this event by setting up a stone monument called Ebenezer.
This document is the transcript of a sermon given at the Palm Desert Church of Christ. The sermon discusses the life of David, focusing on how he was prepared by God for leadership as a shepherd boy through living with integrity, humility, and devotion to God even in small, everyday things. The sermon encourages believers to follow David's example in developing godly character through faithful service and obedience now so that God can use them in the future.
1) The Philistines defeated Israel in battle, killing King Saul and his three sons. Saul then fell on his own sword out of fear of being tortured by the Philistines.
2) The Philistines proceeded to display Saul's body by fastening it to the wall of a Philistine city and putting his armor in the temple of their gods. This humiliated the nation of Israel.
3) Because Saul had been disobedient to God, the Philistines occupied Israeli cities and the nation was judged. However, some men later took Saul and his sons' bodies and buried them honorably.
1) The Philistines defeated King Saul and his sons in battle, killing Jonathan, Abinadab, and Malchishua. Saul was wounded by archers and fell on his sword to avoid being captured, and his armor-bearer also fell on his sword.
2) Saul's body was later found and mutilated by the Philistines, who hung his armor in the temple of their gods and fastened his body to the wall of Bethshan.
3) Saul's reign saw Israel turn away from God, resulting in military defeat, occupation of their cities, and humiliation of their king. His suicide was an act of cowardice that pleased Satan.
1) Saul disobeyed God's command to destroy the Amalekites and their livestock, instead sparing King Agag and the best animals.
2) When confronted by Samuel, Saul admitted wrongdoing but made excuses, blaming the people for his actions.
3) Samuel rejected Saul's excuses and repentance, prophesying that God had chosen a new king to replace Saul, as true repentance requires admitting sin without justification.

Social Media & Technology in Ministry: A Latino/a ApproachSamuel Robles Jr.
This is a workshop I put together for Hispanic/Latino(a) pastors and leaders. Most of the information that exists about social media is euro-centric, and not much exists about its value in ministry. This is an approach to social media in the Hispanic context, and serves as a "conversation-starter" for its potential in ministry.

Defining Bilingual And Multicultural at Arise Christian ChurchSamuel Robles Jr.
At Arise Christian Church, we define "bilingual" and "multicultural" unconventionally. This is how we define it, and effectively do ministry in our context.
Arise Christian Church is hosting a Hispanic Heritage Month Art Exhibit in September and October 2009. The exhibit aims to showcase local Christian artists' work relating to Hispanic/Latino faith and culture. Artists may display and sell their original artwork at the free public event on Sundays from 10am-1pm. All artwork must be appropriate for a sacred environment and adhere to the exhibit's theme. The deadline to register for the exhibit is September 16.
This document summarizes a sermon given at Arise Christian Church about the biblical parable of two houses, one built on a rock foundation and one without a foundation. The sermon discusses how both houses experience adversity but the one built on the rock survives because it is well built and able to withstand challenges, just as obeying Jesus' words enables believers to endure trials in life. Worshippers are challenged to not just be interested listeners but obedient disciples who act on what they hear from Jesus.
This is a Resource Group I led/facilitated at the 2009 General Assembly of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Indianapolis, Indiana entitled, "The future is 'at the hyphen.'"
The Resource Group revolved around the Hispanic/Latino(a) experience in the United States, and how the Church is and/or is not responding to it.
This was a great time of sharing, learning, and healing.
Here is a description of the Resource Group:
In English & en Español
Coined by Justo Gonzalez, “at the hyphen” helps express the current state and future of Hispanic/Latino(a) people in the United States. Many Hispanic/Latino(a) children, youth, and adults born in the United States are struggling with their identity and language. Engage in a dialogue about this difficult, yet important topic.
This past Sunday was the final part of our series, "Transformed: from the inside out."
There was great feedback @ Arise as a result of this series teaching.
This presentation (part 3) begins where part 2 left off.
This was a study I did for Pentecost Sunday 2009 at Arise Christian Church, a new church start in Central Florida.
This presentation opened up the opportunity for people to ask questions and share thoughts and experiences. It was wonderful!
What is not included is a short video that was shared about translating the Bible in one's own language from Wycliffe Bible Translators.
As I have recently been talking with folks and meeting new people, I have heard a common thread of concern in their stories: transitions. This is a teaching I did at Arise Christian Church on Transitions, using Moses as an example.

It seems that current missionary work requires spending a lot of money, preparing a lot of materials, and traveling to far away places, so that it feels like missionary work. But what was the result they brought back? It's just a lot of photos of activities, fun eating, drinking and some playing games. And then we have to do the same thing next year, never ending. The church once mentioned that a certain missionary would go to the field where she used to work before the end of his life. It seemed that if she had not gone, no one would be willing to go. The reason why these missionary work is so difficult is that no one obeys God’s words, and the Bible is not the main content during missionary work, because in the eyes of those who do not obey God’s words, the Bible is just words and cannot be connected with life, so Reading out God's words is boring because it doesn't have any life experience, so it cannot be connected with human life. I will give a few examples in the hope that this situation can be changed. A375

The Book of Ruth is included in the third division, or the Writings, of the Hebrew Bible. In most Christian canons it is treated as one of the historical books and placed between Judges and 1 Samuel.
