Film Analysis
The movie “Ghandi”, produced in the year 1982, by Richard Attenborough focuses on the story of a famous Indian peaceful agitator for independence. It is a tale of the life of this famous Indian peaceful agitator who had dedicated himself to the struggle for the freedom of the Indian people from the British rule. The setting of the film is based on the autobiography of Mahatma Gandhi were he gave a detailed description of his journey in life and how he came to be involved in the Indian national politics. The film presents the chronological and realistic account of the life of this political activist. Comment by Susan Administrator: Don’t place in quotation marks; check spelling. Loooong movie! Comment by Susan Administrator: Good overall background.
The movie begins at the end when an assassin shots this man at an event (Attenborough, 1982). The shooting is instigated by Gandhi’s stand on the British rule and his approach on overturning the situation to the advantage of the people of India. After the shooting incident, mourners pour out into the streets calling this a national tragedy. His death was a loss to the whole nation due to his commitment to the freedom of his people. The struggle had taken Gandhi to South Africa where he had gone to practice law. Comment by Susan Administrator: Why is this needed? Is this the scene you are focusing on? If not, why include it?
His first aggressive confrontation with the authorities was in South Africa when the authorities sent him to the third class section of the train even though he held the first class ticket. This was influenced by the racial discrimination that was propagated by the colonial government in that African country. Gandhi refused to be treated so poorly, and in the process of making trouble, he found himself thrown out. This is the beginning of the non-violent attempts that he would later make in his life as an activist. He was inspired by this incident to create a society where everyone is equal and to fight against the racial segregation. Comment by Susan Administrator: This does not focus on a particular scene, but it does provide some historical summary. But that’s not what the assignment is about.
His success in South Africa takes him back to his home country where his heroism is acknowledged. He, however, meets stringent opposition from the British government that commits itself to ensure that the same changes are not seen in the Indian society (Canby, 1982). Comment by Susan Administrator: This is more like what I’ve just seen. You cover lots of events and lots of scenes. Where is the focus?
His attempt to bring about the stop in the oppression through the non-violent means brought about a lot of frustrations.
The British government sends him to jail several times while the people engage the government in armed struggle. While he is in prison the con ...
The Struggle for Powerless Class in Arundhati Roy’s Writingsijtsrd
Arundhati Roy’s political essays are focused on highlighting her struggle for the powerless class of the world. She tries to make space for justice, right and freedom for the voiceless and silenced class in the society. Social justice is the foundation for peace. She does not advocate meek surrender or violent resistance but fights with a true democratic spirit and non violent principle under the constitutional concept. There is a dangerous systemic flaw in parliamentary democracy. The system of checks and balances as the pillars of the democracy weakens. Democratic institutions become undemocratic in a democratic society and they become completely unaccountable. The relation between the powerless and powerful is like a relation between the lamb and the beast. She hopes that these two classes live together in perfect harmony in the world. Cinema is a powerful medium for social awareness and education that can reach all parts of society. As one of the most popular forms of mass communication, movies have the ability to spread awareness about important issues like human rights, pollution, and education because of their large audiences. While some argue that movies can promote crimes, vulgarity, and ignorance, the document discusses how certain films over the years have effectively brought attention to social issues like communal peace, women's rights, corruption, child labor, and farmer suicides. Therefore, when used responsibly, cinema remains an impactful way to open people's eyes to problems in the world and inspire social change.

This document discusses how Hindi films have portrayed issues related to human rights over time to raise awareness among the public in India. It analyzes films from different eras like the pre-independence period, post-independence, and modern times to show how they have highlighted social issues like untouchability, women's rights, farmers' struggles, and communal harmony. While Indian films have touched on human rights issues indirectly, they have been slow compared to Western films which directly adopt human rights concepts. The medium of film remains very effective at disseminating information and educating audiences about human rights, even if filmmakers need to more explicitly connect social issues to human rights.

This document summarizes the use of street art in Kathmandu, Nepal to claim public space and influence political discourse. It discusses how street art has transitioned streets from being dominated by political parties' slogans and propaganda to showcasing artistic messages that are often critical of bandhs (protests involving strikes) and Nepal's political system. While Modi claims demonetization has helped the common man, opponents see it as an opportunity to gain in upcoming state elections. The move has caused economic disruption and hardship. Experts argue the lack of preparation and assessment of consequences has led to problems. Rural areas have been hit hard as farmers need cash for inputs just as the crisis arose. Manual scavenging continues despite being illegal, denying dignity to workers. Environmental concerns are ignored in the name of development. Cybercrime losses are rising globally and in India. The Supreme Court dismissed a petition to lift the Jallikattu ban, showing compassion.

New Citizen’s Activism in India - By Richa Singh ComDez
The recent rise of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), its surprising success in the Delhi Assembly elections of December 2013, and the short-lived but dramatic episode of Arvind Kejriwal acting as Delhi’s Chief Minister have some of its roots in the earlier anti-corruption protest movement. The AAP is evolving its own peculiar mix of protest and populism, while trying to find a programmatic profile. The AAP may or may not succeed in the 2014 elections. If it does so, a transformation of protest into party politics will have been remarkably fast; and AAP would likely provide some surprises for those used to the established forms of ‘doing politics’ in India. But even if AAP fails – and perhaps especially if it should fail – the new forms of popular protest are unlikely to disappear. They emerged years before the AAP, and may evolve even stronger in the future, constituting an innovative pattern of engagement in India’s democracy.

The document discusses Discourse on Method by Rene Descartes. It covers the concept of heuristics or invention, which is the finding and elaboration of arguments. In rhetoric, heuristics included different types of proof, valid/invalid topics, and commonplaces. The document also discusses Gregory Ulmer's book applying heuristics to enable new forms of research based on Jacques Derrida's work. It quotes Derrida asking "What are you going to do?" to reflect on contemporary issues.

LAND USE LAND COVER AND NDVI OF MIRZAPUR DISTRICT, UPRAHUL
This Dissertation explores the particular circumstances of Mirzapur, a region located in the
core of India. Mirzapur, with its varied terrains and abundant biodiversity, offers an optimal
environment for investigating the changes in vegetation cover dynamics. Our study utilizes
advanced technologies such as GIS (Geographic Information Systems) and Remote sensing to
analyze the transformations that have taken place over the course of a decade.
The complex relationship between human activities and the environment has been the focus
of extensive research and worry. As the global community grapples with swift urbanization,
population expansion, and economic progress, the effects on natural ecosystems are becoming
more evident. A crucial element of this impact is the alteration of vegetation cover, which plays a
significant role in maintaining the ecological equilibrium of our planet.Land serves as the foundation for all human activities and provides the necessary materials for
these activities. As the most crucial natural resource, its utilization by humans results in different
'Land uses,' which are determined by both human activities and the physical characteristics of the
land.
The utilization of land is impacted by human needs and environmental factors. In countries
like India, rapid population growth and the emphasis on extensive resource exploitation can lead
to significant land degradation, adversely affecting the region's land cover.
Therefore, human intervention has significantly influenced land use patterns over many
centuries, evolving its structure over time and space. In the present era, these changes have
accelerated due to factors such as agriculture and urbanization. Information regarding land use and
cover is essential for various planning and management tasks related to the Earth's surface,
providing crucial environmental data for scientific, resource management, policy purposes, and
diverse human activities.
Accurate understanding of land use and cover is imperative for the development planning
of any area. Consequently, a wide range of professionals, including earth system scientists, land
and water managers, and urban planners, are interested in obtaining data on land use and cover
changes, conversion trends, and other related patterns. The spatial dimensions of land use and
cover support policymakers and scientists in making well-informed decisions, as alterations in
these patterns indicate shifts in economic and social conditions. Monitoring such changes with the
help of Advanced technologies like Remote Sensing and Geographic Information Systems is
crucial for coordinated efforts across different administrative levels. Advanced technologies like
Remote Sensing and Geographic Information Systems

Changes in vegetation cover refer to variations in the distribution, composition, and overall
structure of plant communities across different temporal and spatial scales. These changes can
occur natural.

9. Understanding The Title
SATYAGRAHA:
Meaning
(Encyclopedia
Britannica
)Satyagraha, ( Hindi: ―insistence on truth‖ or ―zeal for truth‖)
concept introduced in the early 20th century by Mahatma
Gandhi to designate a determined but nonviolent resistance to
evil. Gandhi’s satyagraha became a major tool in the Indian
struggle against British imperialism and has since been
adopted by protest groups in other countries.
According to this philosophy, satyagrahis—practitioners of
satyagraha—achieve correct insight into the real nature of an
evil situation by observing a- nonviolence of the mind, by
seeking truth in a spirit of peace and love, and by undergoing a
rigorous process of self-scrutiny. In so doing, the satyagrahi
encounters truth in the absolute. By his refusal to submit to the
wrong or to cooperate with it in any way, the satyagrahi asserts
this truth.
10. SATYAGRAHA: The Plot 1
The film begins with arrival of a train at
Ambika Pur (Small Town/ District) station.
Manav{Ajay
Devgn},
a
professional,
capitalistic mind rich youth gets down and
welcomed by his engineer friend who is
brought up under guidance of his idealistic
father, Dwarka Anand{Amitabh Bachchan}
Manav & Dwarka Anand (Dadu Ji) had a
discussion over dining in which Manav
defends new economy and making profit.
11. SATYAGRAHA: The Plot 2
Corruption makes a bridge to fall and conspiracy
makes the the honest engineer to be killed in a
road accident.(Satyendra Dubey-Bihar, 200)
Minister announces the compensation money
which was not given to the family and finally
Dwarka Anand slaps the commissioner and jailed.
Manav tries to bail out Dwarka Anand but he failed
and in despair he mobilizes the common man with
the help of Arjun Singh & his journalist friend
Yasmin Ahmad (Kareena Kapoor).
12. SATYAGRAHA: The Plot 3
Due to pressure from all around Dwarka
Anand is released and he comes to know that
his son was killed because of conspiracy and
NOT an accident.
He refused to take compensation money and
asks the minister and the Commissioner to
clear the pending files of the people within 30
days.
Manav is trapped and asked to leave the town
but he distributes all his belongings to his
share holders
13. SATYAGRAHA: The Plot 4
He returns back to the town but no one believes him any
more. He clarifies his stand and the movement again gains
momentum.
During the protest/ Dharna one person commits self
immolation (real:Dinesh Yadav of Bihar State) & dies.
Protesters want to demonstrate with his dead-body which
creates differences among the protesters but finally it was
allowed
During demonstration the minister sends his goons and it
becomes violent and firing from police kills DADU JI who
says non-violence is his last wish to be practiced.
Finally minister is sacked and put into the jail and the public
wins. An idealistic ending.

source: http://odrf.wordpress.com/2007/09/01/836-million-indians-live-on-less-than-rs-20-a-day-ibnlivecom-videos/
An overwhelming 836 million people in India live on a
per capita consumption of less than Rs 20 a day,
according to the findings of the Arjun Sengupta report
on the Conditions of Work and Promotion of Livelihood
in the Un-organized Sector. The report is based on
government data for the period between 1993-94 and
2004-05.
While the numbers rose by a staggering 100 million,
the numbers of the new rich has also grown by 93
million. ―Our survey is very scientific. The other poverty
estimates looked at the absolute poor only but we look
at different categories of poor,‖ Chairman, National
Commission for Enterprises in Un-organized Sector,
Arjun Sengupta said. So, who are the ones who have
actually benefitted from the boom in the economic
growth of the country?

Irony of life: We come across many people but
we remember only those whom we love the
most or those we hate the most
Similarly we like the film which entertains us
completely or which disturbs us completely
Unfortunately it failed on the both fronts, BUT
Whenever we’ll try understand, to know about
the social/political/economic status and
happenings of the 2nd Decade of India, this film
is an essential reference.
