• On completion of my apprenticeship in 1970 I was employed as an engineering draughtsman at
Harrisons Lister Engineering Ltd. In addition to drawing office work I was engaged in supervisory
work connected with estimation, installation operation and maintenance of cold rooms, block ice
machines,
• air conditioners, passenger and goods lifts. Supervision installation and servicing of large diesel
power plants, chlorination plants and electrical wiring in factories etc.
• Joined Ceylon Cold Stores Ltd as an engineering foreman in charge of the following work in the
Engine Rooms of the various departments of the company
o Supervision maintenance and repair work on refrigeration, air conditioning, cold rooms and
buildings.
o Installation of refrigeration equipment inclusive of construction of cold rooms.
o Supervision maintenance and repair work on steam boilers. POSESS A CLASS 1 BOILER
LICENCE
o Repairs to H.T. and L.T. switchgear installed in the company premises
o Maintenance and repair work on all equipment such as blast freezers, hatchery machinery,
pasteurizing plant etc, at the 900 acre Victoria farm formerly owned by Ceylon Cold Stores Ltd.

o In July 1974 I was promoted to the junior management grade of the company as engineer and was
put in charge of managerial duties of the engine room work listed above.

maintenance, repair and installation work. During this period I had to manage the workshop where

lathe work, masonry, carpentry, painting and electrical work was carried out. In this capacity I was
responsible for maintaining all equipment at the fountain café restaurant run by Ceylon cold stores.
During this time I covered up for transport manger during his absence. Thereby by I gained a
through knowledge of the transport department and motor vehicle repair and maintenance.
• Was attached to Police Training School at Nizwa in the Sultanate of Oman where I was engaged
in supervision, maintenance and repairs to cold rooms, laundry machines, kitchen equipment,
swimming pool equipment and central air conditioners.
• At Ole Springs Bottlers Pvt Ltd,I was involved from the Pepsicola factory construction work to
completion of buildings, installation of all machinery and commissioning of the plant with foreign
engineers. Worked as factory engineer for a period of 4 ½ years.
Ole Springs Bottlers Pvt Ltd was a subsidiary of Maharaja Organization Ltd (New Pepsi Cola
Bottling Plant at Ranala)
