Sanimax collects leftover products from agricultural and food companies and transforms them at processing plants into materials like biodiesel. Their 2007 facility has a 20 million gallon per year capacity and uses various feedstocks to produce the highest quality distilled biodiesel. This has displaced over half a million tons of carbon dioxide emissions. Biodiesel provides environmental benefits as it has 10% of the carbon intensity of diesel and no particulate emissions. It also benefits the economy by being domestically produced and providing a market for waste streams. However, current challenges include delays in federal renewable fuel standards, expiration of tax credits, and Wisconsin losing its biodiesel producer's tax credit, putting it at a competitive disadvantage.
