ANGER IS AN EMOTION WHICH TENDS
TO GIVE DEPRESSION. COLORS ARE SHOWING
INTENSITY OF ANGER STARTING WITH YELLOW
INTERMEDIATE ORANGE AND RED AS EXTREME.
NEEDLES SIGNIFY THE MISTAKE THAT WE COMMIT
BECAUSE OF IN ANGER WHICH FEELS US WITH
GUILT DENOTED BY BLUE COLOR WITH FINALLY
LEADS TO DEPRESSION SHOWN BY BLACK

I WANTED TO MOLD IT INTO CURVE SHAPE STRUCTURE

I ALSO EXPERIMENTED WITH SHAPE TO MOLD CUBE WITH
HEMISPHERE SO THAT WORKERS CAN DIRECTLY INTERACT
WITH VISITORS AT RECEPTION BUT VISITORS WILL NOT BE
ABLE TO DISTURB WORKERS.

IT IS PREDICTED THAT THE WORLD POPULATION WILL REACH 11 BILLION BY 2100, OF WHICH 70 % WILL LIVE IN URBAN AREAS. INCREASING POPULATION &
CLIMATIC CHANGES WILL STRAIN ALL NATURAL RESOURCES, SPECIFICALLY THE ABILITY TO SUPPLY FOOD. THE CONCEPT OF VERTICAL FARMING ( URBAN
FOOD PRODUCTION CENTRE ) IS THE SOLUTION FOR IN CITY AGRICULTURAL PRACTICE IN SUSTAINABLE MANNER.

2. THOUGH THE INHABITATNTS OF THIS AREA OF THE CITY OF MUMBAI THE COMMERCIAL HUB OF

AS THE DEVELOPEMENT OF THIS AREA COMES UNDER S.R.A.(SLUM REDEVELOPEMENT AUTHORITY ) PROJECT, IT HAS TO BE UNDERTAKEN BY DEVELOPER
WHERE 51% OF THE AREA GOES FOR THE S.R.A. PROJECT & GOES FOR THE DEVELOPER'S OWN PROJECT .
IN MY PROPOSAL, I HAVE NOT CONSIDER A REGULAR DEVELOPER WHO WILL BUILD LUXURIOUS FLATS IN HIS 49% AREA BECAUSE
1. IT IS NOT FEASIBLE TO HAVE A LUXURIOUS SOCIETY COMPLEX BESIDE A SLUM REDEVELOPEMENT PROJECT OWNING TO THE CLASS DISCRIMINATION.
2. AS THE SITE IS NEAR THE SEA IT IS EXTREMELY ESSENTIAL TO UTILIZE & BUILD A PROJECT THAT WILL BENEFIT THE CITY & CAUSE LEAST DAMAGE TO
ECO-SYSTEM.
HENCE I HAVE CONSIDERED THE DEVELOPER TO BE A BIOTECH COMPANY LIKE AMWAY & HAVE PROPOSED AN IN CITY AGRICULTURE BUILDING WHERE
CROPS WILL BE PRODUCED THROUGH AEROPONICS AND HYDROPONICS FARMING.
1. MORE PRODUCT IN LESS FOOT PRINT AREA.
2. THIS TYPE OF FARMING IS DIFFERENT FROM NORMAL AGRICULTURE AS WELL AS GREEN HOUSE AGRICULTURE. EVERY ASPECT OF CROP GROWTH IS
CONTROLLED.
3. SHELF LIFE OF CROP FROM AEROPONICS AND HYDROPONICS IS MUCH HIGHER THAN THAT OF REGULAR FARMING.
4. COST OF GOODS IS REDUCED AS THE AGRICULTURE IS DONE IN THE CITY ITSELF THEREBY REMOVING TRANSPORT COST

HYDROPONICS IS A SUBSET AND IS A METHOD OF GROWING PLANTS
USING MINERAL NUTRIENT SOLUTION, IN WATER, WITHOU SOIL.
TERRESTRIAL PLANTS MAY BE GROWTH WITH THEIR ROOTS IN THE
MINERAL NUTRIENTS SOLUTION ONLY OR IN AN INERT MEDIUM, SUCH
AS PERLITE(a form of obsidian consisting of glassy globules, used as
insulation or in plant gowth media.) OR GRAVEL.
AEROPONICS
AEROPONICS IS A SYSTEM WHEREIN ROOTS ARE CONTINUOUSLY OR
DISCONTINUOUSLY KEPT IN AN ENVIRONMENT SATURATED ITH FINE
DROPS ( A MIST OR AEROSOL) OF NUTRIENT SOLUTION. THE METHOD
REQUIRES NO SUBSTRATE & ENTAILS GROWING PLANTS WITH THEIR
ROOTS SUSPENDED IN DEEP AIR OR GROWTH CHAMBER WITH THE
ROOT PERIODICALLY WETTED WITH FINE MIST OF ATOMIZED NUTRIENTS

BANGANGA OR BANGANGA TANK IS AN ANCIENT
WATER TANK THAT FORMS PART OF THE
WALKESHWAR TEMPLE COMPLEX IN MALABAR HILL
AREA OF MUMBAI. IT IS REVERED BY
HINDUISM AS THE ORIGIN OF THE TANK LAY
SHROUDED IN HINDU MYTH. THE SITE HAS
INSPIRED MANY ARTISTS, FILM AND CANVAS FOR THE
MASTER PIECES OF CREATIONS.
'BANGANGA FESTIVAL' OF MUSIC ORGANIZED BY THE
MAHARASHTRA TOURISM DEVELOPMENT
CORPORATION (MTDC) HAD ALWAYS BEEN THE
ANNUAL ATTRACTION FOR MUMBAI
CITY.HENCE, IT IS CONSIDERED AS A SPIRITUAL
PILGRIMAGE SITE AS WELL AS A CULTURAL CENTER.
BANGANGA TANK IS ONE OF THE OLDEST SURVIVING
STRUCTURES OF ANTIQUITY IN MUMBAI,
THUS, PROTECTED BY THE INDIAN GOVERNMENT AS A
NATIONAL HERITAGE SITE.

THE TANK IS A RECTANGULAR POOL STRUCTURE
SURROUNDED BY STEPS ON ALL FOUR SIDES WITH
FIFTEEN TEMPLES AROUND THE HAS AT THE PERIPHERY. THE
WATER SPRINGS FEED THE TANK.
DESPITE ITS LOCATION ONLY FEW METERS AWAY FROM
THE SEA, WATER IS SWEET. THE TWO
PILLARS; DEEPASTAMBH; ARE STANDING ON THE SOUTH
EDGE OF THE LAKE. IT HAD BEEN LIT IN
ANCIENT TIMES. FAMOUS HINDU HOLY MEN, SRI RANJIT
MAHARAJ (1913-2000) AND HIS
GURU SRI SIDDARAMESHWAR MAHARAJ (1888-1936),
HAVE SAMADHI SHRINES IN THE
VICINITY.
IT IS SAID THAT LORD RAMA ON HIS
WAY TO LANKA, IN SEARCH OF SITA,
HALTED HERE TO SEEK THE BLESSINGS OF THE
SAGE GAUTAMA. TO QUENCH HIS THIRST, HE
SHOT A BAAN(ARROW) INTO THE NETHER
WORLD AND RELEASED THE BHAGAVATI
(THE UNDERGROUND GANGA).THE AREA
AROUND THE TANK GRADUALLY
DEVELOPED AS A TIRTHAKSHETRA (PLACE
OF PILGRIMAGE) AND SEVERAL TEMPLES
WERE SUBSEQUENTLY BUILT BY OTHER

SHRAADDH IS A CEREMONY WHERE RITUALS
ARE PERFORMED FOR THE DEPARTED SOULS
OF DEAD ANCESTORS. IN MUMBAI THESE
RITUALS ARE PERFORMED AT THE
BANGANGA TANK. MEN WHO TAKE PART IN
THE SHRAADDH RITUALS SHAVE THEIR HEAD

TIMES, A PERSON SEES A DROWNING PERSON
BUT CANNOT HELP HIM DUE TO LACK OF SWIMMING
SKILLS. THEREFORE, AN ARRANGEMENT NEED
TO BE MADE WHICH WOULD ENABLE PEOPLE TO HELP
A HELPLESS PERSON IN SUCH EMERGENCY
SITUATIONS.
THE TUBES WILL BE INSTALLED ALONG THE PERIPHERY,
ON THE WALLS AT REGULAR INTERVALS. ONE
END OF A ROPE WILL BE ATTACHED TO THE TUBE AND
THE OTHER END WILL BE ATTACHED TO THE
PERIPHERY WALL.THE ROPE WILL HELP IN DIRECTING
THE TUBE TO THE DROWNING PERSON. ALSO IT

INSTEAD OF PROVIDING A SINGLE DIAGONAL RAMP RUNNING THROUGH ALL THE
MID LANDINGS, THE RAMP IS CUT AT MID LANDING LEVEL. ALSO, IT IS PLACED
IN A 'Z' SHAPED PATTERN FOR EASY
MOVEMENT.THIS WILL ENABLE TO HAVE A SMOOTH HORIZONTAL(CROSS)
MOVEMENT ALONG WITH VERTICAL MOVEMENT.
CARE HAS BEEN TAKEN THAT THE ADDITION OF RAMPS TO THE STEPS WOULD NOT
CAUSE A DISTURBANCE TO THE REGULAR ACTIVITIES AND CIRCULATION

THE STEPS WITHOUT CUTTING THEM OR CAUSING ANY DAMAGE TO THEM.
CONCRETE IS USED AS A BASE MATERIAL. IT IS CLADDED WITH BASALT STONE

PEOPLE WITH OTHER MOBILITY PROBLEMS. THE FOLLOWING DIAGRAM DEPICTS THE
CHAIRS FUNCTIONALITY.THE CHAIR IS A REMOTE CONTROLLED MACHINE. ON
PRESSING THE BUTTON ONCE THE CHAIR WILL COMPLETE THE FOLLOWING CYCLE(IE.

WATER WILL HIDE THE MEDIAN MARKERS AND THUS THE POINT TILL WHERE THE MEDIAN
MARKERS ARE SEEN WILL BE THE SAFE AREA BLUE AND YELLOW ARE COLOURS
RECOGNIZED BY MAXIMUM COLOR BLIND PEOPLE, HENCE ALTERNATE YELLOW AND
BLUE COLORED MEDIANS WILL BE PLACED ON EACH TREAD. THE ABSENCE OF COLOR
AFTER A LEVEL WILL MAKE A PARTIALLY BLIND PERSON UNDERSTAND THE WATER LEVEL.

REMOVED AFTER USAGE. THE PLASTIC FOLDABLE PIPE UNFOLDS AND ITS LENGTH
INCREASES AS WE MOVE FROM SHORTER TO LONGER SPAN. THUS, IT KEEPS ON
CARRYING FORWARD GARBAGE IN THE WATER BODY, WHICH CAN BE REMOVED AT
THE END. BRISTLES ARE ATTACHED TO THIS PIPE WHICH WILL HELP IN TRAPPING DEBRIS
OR WASTE MATERIAL. THIS PROCESS CAN BE CARRIED OUT MANUALLY BY 2
PEOPLE.THE APPARATUS IS REMOVED AFTER USAGE LEAVING NO STAINS BEHIND. THE
CLEANING APPARATUS CONSISTS OF A PLASTIC FOLDABLE PIPE WITH BRISTLES
ATTACHED TO ITS LOWER END. THE PIPE WILL HAVE SEALED ENDS WITH A ROLLER

THE UNIT IS GIVEN A PECULIAR TEXTURE SO THAT IT IS EASILY IDENTIFIED TO A VISUALLY IMPAIRED PERSON. IT IS
DESIGNED AS A FOUNDATION FREE STRUCTURE.THE PLANTER AND DUSTBIN UNIT ACTS AS AN ENLARGED
END AND THE LOAD OF SOIL EXERTS DOWNWARDS PRESSURE WHICH HELPS IN KEEPING THE UNIT STABLE.
ACCORDING TO THE NEED OF THE TIME THE UNITS CAN BE REARRANGED AND ALSO REMOVED.THUS, ITS FREE
STANDING NATURE WILL CAUSE NO DAMAGE TO THE HERITAGE SITE. THE OPENABLE DUSTBINS ON EITHER

N GROUP PROJECT : 4 PARTICIPANTS THE TANK IS A RECTANGULAR POOL STRUCTURE SURROUNDED BY STEPS ON ALL FOUR SIDES WITH FIFTEEN TEMPLES AROUND THE HAS AT THE PERIPHERY. THE WATER SPRINGS FEED THE TANK. DESPITE ITS LOCATION ONLY FEW METERS AWAY FROM THE SEA, WATER IS SWEET. THE TWO PILLARS; DEEPASTAMBH; ARE STANDING ON THE SOUTH EDGE OF THE LAKE. IT HAD BEEN LIT IN ANCIENT TIMES. FAMOUS HINDU HOLY MEN, SRI RANJIT MAHARAJ (1913-2000) AND HIS GURU SRI SIDDARAMESHWAR MAHARAJ (1888-1936), HAVE SAMADHI SHRINES IN THE VICINITY. IT IS SAID THAT LORD RAMA ON HIS WAY TO LANKA, IN SEARCH OF SITA, HALTED HERE TO SEEK THE BLESSINGS OF THE SAGE GAUTAMA. TO QUENCH HIS THIRST, HE SHOT A BAAN(ARROW) INTO THE NETHER WORLD AND RELEASED THE BHAGAVATI (THE UNDERGROUND GANGA).THE AREA AROUND THE TANK GRADUALLY DEVELOPED AS A TIRTHAKSHETRA (PLACE OF PILGRIMAGE) AND SEVERAL TEMPLES WERE SUBSEQUENTLY BUILT BY OTHER WORSHIPPERS. SHRAADDH IS A CEREMONY WHERE RITUALS ARE PERFORMED FOR THE DEPARTED SOULS OF DEAD ANCESTORS. IN MUMBAI THESE RITUALS ARE PERFORMED AT THE BANGANGA TANK. AT TIMES, A PERSON SEES A DROWNING PERSON BUT CANNOT HELP HIM DUE TO LACK OF SWIMMING SKILLS. THEREFORE, AN ARRANGEMENT NEED TO BE MADE WHICH WOULD ENABLE PEOPLE TO HELP A HELPLESS PERSON IN SUCH EMERGENCY SITUATIONS. THE TUBES WILL BE INSTALLED ALONG THE PERIPHERY, ON THE WALLS AT REGULAR INTERVALS. ONE END OF A ROPE WILL BE ATTACHED TO THE TUBE AND THE OTHER END WILL BE ATTACHED TO THE PERIPHERY WALL.THE ROPE WILL HELP IN DIRECTING THE TUBE TO THE DROWNING PERSON. ALSO IT IS EASY TO ROLL AND PLACE IT AGAIN IN POSITION. SUCH UNITS WILL BE PLACED ALONG THE LONGER SIDES AND IN AN ALTERNATE MANNER SO THAT ONE TUBE COVERS MAXIMUM AREA.THE LENGTH OF THE PIPE WILL SUCH THAT IT COVERS 2/3RD OF THE WATER BODY.ALSO, IT WILL BE PLACED AT A HEIGHT ACCESSIBLE TO ALL PEOPLE.A SYSTEM WHICH IS UNIVERSALLY USED, HAS BEEN USED HERE SO THAT IT IS UNDERSTANDABLE TO A LAY MAN AND NO CONFUSION HAPPENS AT THE TIME OF EMERGENCY. IT IS NOT POSSIBLE TO CONSTRUCT A STRAIGHT RAMP ON THIS STEPS, AS IT WILL RESULT IN THE FORMATION OF A VERY STEEP SLOPE, CAUSING GREAT DISCOMFORT.THUS, PROVIDING DIAGONAL RAMPS CONTRADICTORY TO THE ONES WHICH ARE PERPENDICULAR TO THE TREAD HELPS IN PROVIDING A SMALLER SLOPE GRADIENT. INSTEAD OF PROVIDING A SINGLE DIAGONAL RAMP RUNNING THROUGH ALL THE MID LANDINGS, THE RAMP IS CUT AT MID LANDING LEVEL. ALSO, IT IS PLACED IN A 'Z' SHAPED PATTERN FOR EASY MOVEMENT.THIS WILL ENABLE TO HAVE A SMOOTH HORIZONTAL(CROSS) MOVEMENT ALONG WITH VERTICAL MOVEMENT. THE SOUND CREATED BY THE FIXTURE IN THE RAILING WILL GIVE A CLEAR SIGNAL OF THE ACCESS STAIRCASES TO A VISUALLY IMPAIRED PERSON. THIN ALUMINIUM PLATE DEVICE WILL BE PROVIDED IN THE RAILING. WHEN AN INDIVIDUAL SLIDES HIS HAND OVER THE RAILING THE ALUMINIUM PLATES WILL BANG AGAINST EACH OTHER AND CREATE A GENTLE SOUND. IT WILL NOT BE A LOUD SOUND CAUSING IRRITATION, BUT A GENTLE ONE. THEREFORE, A WALKING CHAIR HAS BEEN DESIGNED TO MAKE THE SITE ACCESSIBLE FOR PARAPLEGIC, QUADRIPLEGIC, PREGNANT WOMEN, FOR SENIOR CITIZENS AND PEOPLE WITH OTHER MOBILITY PROBLEMS. THE FOLLOWING DIAGRAM DEPICTS THE CHAIRS FUNCTIONALITY.THE CHAIR IS A REMOTE CONTROLLED MACHINE. ON PRESSING THE BUTTON ONCE THE CHAIR WILL COMPLETE THE FOLLOWING CYCLE(IE. THE WATER WILL HIDE THE MEDIAN MARKERS AND THUS THE POINT TILL WHERE THE MEDIAN MARKERS ARE SEEN WILL BE THE SAFE AREA BLUE AND YELLOW ARE COLOURS RECOGNIZED BY MAXIMUM COLOR BLIND PEOPLE, HENCE ALTERNATE YELLOW AND BLUE COLORED MEDIANS WILL BE PLACED ON EACH TREAD. THE ABSENCE OF COLOR AFTER A LEVEL WILL MAKE A PARTIALLY BLIND PERSON UNDERSTAND THE WATER LEVEL. THE MEDIANS HAVE EMBEDDED LED LIGHTS WHICH RUN ON SOLAR PANELS. THE FOLLOWING METHOD HAS BEEN ADOPTED TO CLEAN WATER IN THE TANK. CHANNEL ARE PROVIDED ON THE LONGER SIDES OF THE TANK AT EACH LANDING LEVEL. THE CLEANING APPARATUS WILL BE FIXED WITH THIS CHANNEL AND WILL BE REMOVED AFTER USAGE. THE PLASTIC FOLDABLE PIPE UNFOLDS AND ITS LENGTH INCREASES AS WE MOVE FROM SHORTER TO LONGER SPAN. THUS, IT KEEPS ON CARRYING FORWARD GARBAGE IN THE WATER BODY, WHICH CAN BE REMOVED AT THE END. BRISTLES ARE ATTACHED TO THIS PIPE WHICH WILL HELP IN TRAPPING DEBRIS OR WASTE MATERIAL. THIS PROCESS CAN BE CARRIED OUT MANUALLY BY 2 PEOPLE.THE APPARATUS IS REMOVED AFTER USAGE LEAVING NO STAINS BEHIND. THE CLEANING APPARATUS CONSISTS OF A PLASTIC FOLDABLE PIPE WITH BRISTLES ATTACHED TO ITS LOWER END. THE PIPE WILL HAVE SEALED ENDS WITH A ROLLER ATTACHED TO ITS ENDS WHICH SLIDES THROUGH THE CHANNEL. IT IS DESIGNED AS A FOUNDATION FREE STRUCTURE.THE PLANTER AND DUSTBIN UNIT ACTS AS AN ENLARGED END AND THE LOAD OF SOIL EXERTS DOWNWARDS PRESSURE WHICH HELPS IN KEEPING THE UNIT STABLE. ACCORDING TO THE NEED OF THE TIME THE UNITS CAN BE REARRANGED AND ALSO REMOVED.THUS, ITS FREE STANDING NATURE WILL CAUSE NO DAMAGE TO THE HERITAGE SITE. THE OPENABLE DUSTBINS ON EITHER SIDES WILL MAKE THE PROCESS OF EMPTYING THE DUSTBIN EASY.THE DUSTBIN SIGNAGES IS HIGHLIGHTED USING YELLOW COLOUR.THE LIGHT POLL HAS A SOLAR PANEL FIXED ON THE TOP.THUS THE DESIGN BECOMES A COST EFFICIENT ONE. NIRMALYA KALASH(POT) IS TRADITIONALLY USED AT MANY PLACES, TO COLLECT FLOWERS AND ALL OTHER THING WHICH ARE USED IN RITUALS. TO MAKE OPTIMUM USAGE OF THE SAME THE FOLLOWING METHOD IS USED. THE POT CONSIST OF A COMPOST MANURE WHICH HELPS IN THE DECOMPOSITION OF WASTE IT RECEIVES, AS A RESULT PRODUCING MANURE WHICH WILL BE USED IN THE PLANTERS.ALSO, THE WASTE COLLECTED FROM THE WATER BODY AFTER CLEANING WILL BE ADDED TO THE POT. THE ENTIRE OPERATION IS COST EFFECTIVE AND SELF SUSTAINABLE ,AS THE WASTE WILL GENERATED IN THE SITE AND USED AROUND THE SITE ITSELF.
