5. INTRODUCTION
• Ladders are common sources of injuries an
fatalities among construction workers.
• OSHA estimates there are more than 24,000
injuries and 36 fatalities per year due to fall on
ladder used in construction.

MAKE SURE THE LADDER IS IN GOOD

SET UP THE LADDER CORRECTLY

11. PICK THE RIGHT LADDER
The ladder should be of the correct type and
length.
Some situation may not require ladder instead
use scaffold.
Always use the right ladder for the write
purpose.
12. CHECK THE CONDITION OF THE LADDER
• Never use a damaged ladder.
• Make sure all the parts(rungs, side rails,
braces, ropes and pulleys) are in good working
condition.
• Make sure the rungs are free of slippery
substance.
• Make sure it has non-slip rubber feet.
13. SET UP THE LADDER
• Make sure the base is solid.
• A plat form/ fold ladder should be locked into
a fully-open position before use.
• If the ground is uneven, utilize board to make
sure the ladder has even ground to stand on.
• A straight ladder should be placed against the
wall at an angle so that the base of the ladder
is one foot away from the wall for every four
feet height.
15. WORK SAFELY ON THE LADDER
• Keep centre on the ladder
• Do not carry tools/materials in your hands
while climbing a ladder.
• Do not wear slippery shoe.
• Never move a ladder while on it.
• Don’t be more than one person on a ladder.
• Always face the ladder while climbing.
• Do not use in bad weather eg; rain.
Remember: always practice ladder safety rules
every time you climb a ladder
