Safeguarding involves protecting individuals from different types of harm, including sexual, physical, emotional harm, and neglect. There are duties and responsibilities for those providing health, social, or educational services to safeguard individuals. Safeguarding includes being willing to act if someone has been harmed, listening if they believe someone is at risk, and taking it seriously if someone might harm themselves or others. Organizations can help ensure safeguarding by doing criminal background checks, linking with outside agencies, regularly testing equipment, and having regular reviews. In the workplace, individuals should be aware of HR policies and understand their and others' rights regarding safeguarding, and should first bring any issues to their line manager.
